Mad Men on AMC (2 Viewers)

Is Don Draper approaching Tony Soprano status in terms of great TV lead characters? I know it's probably too early to assess but I don't think it's ridiculous to ask. Hamm pwns this role. :style:

Have no fear... ol' Don is still a kitty magnet. :goodposting:

That actor who plays Sal has to be loving life. He gets to suck face with a dude while Draper bangs his wife and tons of hotties.

:lmao:

DVR'd it...no comments yet on how the season premier was?
I thought they did a good job setting up the rest of the season...or at least the next few EPs. Interested in finding out what happened with Duck. Of course, Weiner might just let that whole thing fade away.

I thought the premiere was outstanding. Last season, the show started to get a little aimless. I felt like the writers were starting to run out of ideas. But I think this episode portends well for the rest of the season and I am very excited to see what happens.

I'm really curious how they're going to handle 1963
Guess towards the end of this season the JFK assassination will have to be in there.By the way, did red put on more lbs or do they pad her up more around the midsection? She looked noticeably thicker in the waist than recent photos of her.

Bump for tonight.

Just tried to change my SN on CakePoker to "Don Draper" and it wouldn't allow me, because it contains "profanity." I guess because of the "rape" letter combo. :lmao:

about 50 minutes into 3.02 I like where they are going right now. They are definitely setting themselves up for some fireworks with the whole extended family dynamic

Another great line by Roger: "You're the only woman around here without that dumb look on your face."

Episode 1? Very good. This one? Not so much.
I liked it a lot. Although it was almost another "stage setting" episode. Maybe the premier should have been two hours?Looks like Roger's daughter will have a pretty surreal wedding (Nov 23, if I caught that right)

buddy mentioned the following

mytagid = Math.floor( Math.random() * 100 );document.write("

was thinking about the end of the episode last night.......................

the kids are at the field day and they are doing the maypole dance...do you think that was supposed to evoke thoughts of madison square garden. the maypole design looks a lot like the inside of the garden.

let me know if i am being really obvious. *** SPOILER ALERT! Click this link to display the potential spoiler text in this box. ***");document.close();

You could tell Draper was having some sort of epiphany while he sat there (feeling the grass, etc).I think you/your friend is right.

I thought it could be about the teacher dancing and the Bye Bye Birdie ad.

Ahh yes.That fits well.

Draper could undoubtedly pull off the rare double here.

You can't just get hit in the face every episode. There has to be some groundwork laid.
I agree. But Peggy is one of the worst actors on the show. So her stories don't often interest me.
Something her character's story last night really got me horned up
Her reference to oral sex ("We could do other things") is a first on the show (maybe outside of prostitutes?), I think they're trying to show the seeds of what would eventually be come the women's lib movement.Can't wait to see Sally getting caught by Betty smoking grass in a few seasons.

JFK's probably the season finale, or thereabouts.Didn't Beatlemania start in 1963?
Beatles were on Ed Sullivan in Feb '64. Maybe next season?

I was thinking buttsex. But that wasn't invented until the early 1970s.

This show needs a couple of strong plotlines. Love the characters, love the writing. But for now, we have very little to care about as far as a multi-episode interesting plot.

I thought it was fantastic. Can't wait to watch it again.
Oh don't get me wrong. It was still a great episode. But at the end I was left wondering where it was all going. That's not a bad thing at all. The worst episode of "Mad Men" is still 5x better than the best episode of almost every other show out there.

I did laugh at this line:"I'm Peggy Olson, and I want to smoke marijuana!"
I got a laugh out of that one and the scene in general. Definitely have been there. I really enjoyed this episode. I think the best parts of Mad Men are when there is nothing really happening, no dialogue and a seemingly ordinary event. I think they capture those moments brilliantly. Betty Draper blew me away. I think this was the best I've seen her. I'm normally a Joan guy but Betty was stunning in that white dress.

I agree. Though I think the show would be better steered by a couple of major plot lines.

You like the preggos, eh?
