I don't remember the beatles on the wonder years, aside from the cocker cover. Weiner says he was told it's never been done.

You have to wonder if the song being on the show resulted in a big spike in it being downloaded on iTunes.
"Dinner For Schmucks", the Steve Carell/Paul Rudd movie used "Fool On The Hill" for the opening credits. The studio paid 1.5 million. In the last five years there haven't been any. It was a little less certain before that. It says Weiner was told this was the first time a song was used on a show, but I'm not sure that's accurate.
Didn't Townshend give it to Louis for free because it was an awesome use of the song?Maybe Weiner should have done with Paul what Louis CK did with Pete Townshend: just call up and offer some ridiculously low fee, and hoped Paul took it as a joke like Townshend did.

A guy I talked to today is looking into something." And it went on and on. And finally, she said, "Well, Pete Townshend wants to know exactly how it's being used, and he wants to see the show. He wants to see some episodes." So I wrote him a synopsis of how it would be. I described it very carefully, and we sent him the DVD of five episodes from last season. And then, I don't know, three or four months later, it felt like, he came back to us and said, "Can you send me 7,500 bucks?" [Laughs.] Yeah! And so the whole thing cost $15,000, which is ####### nothing!

Interesting theories....and great description of how Megan got Don. So on the above...Megan is deceiving her father as well, making him believe she married Don for love?'ChloeOBrienCTU said:My guess is Megan will be exposed, that's the direction the show is taking, to be something akin to what Don's real mother was like. Plus, her father is a professor so while Megan might not be rich, she is probably highly educatedInteresting theories....and great description of how Megan got Don. Yeah, that's hard to believe. Not the part about somebody screwing an exec to get a gig; that happens everywhere, everyday. But Weiner being told what direction his creation is going to go. Sounds like complete bs to me. He strikes me as the kind of guy who would sooner drop the show altogether than be whipped like that. Or at least take it elsewhere.'Premier said:Doubt that last part highly. Weiner isn't writing his show based off someone else's orders.
What were the others? :lazy:every episode this season seems to have at least one reference to suicide or falling from a height. In this ep, we had the elevator incident and Pete made a reference to suicide.
I'm sure there's some in various places on the internet, but a few that come to mind:The long lingering shot of the balcony when Don chased Meghan around the apt.Pete's stereo reminds me of a coffinAt Don's surprise party, somebody made a crack about going over the balconyI seem to recall Roger makining a comment about throwing somebody out the window...What were the others? :lazy:every episode this season seems to have at least one reference to suicide or falling from a height. In this ep, we had the elevator incident and Pete made a reference to suicide.
The only other falling reference I recall was Roger fantasizing about throwing Pete through the window a couple episodes into the season. But there have been countless references to windows; windows opening, window not opening, a new office that has windows, and the Y&R water balloon incident. Now Don nearly walking into an elevator shaft. I forget the suicide reference from Pete. What did he say? What were the others? :lazy:every episode this season seems to have at least one reference to suicide or falling from a height. In this ep, we had the elevator incident and Pete made a reference to suicide.
In talking to the life insurance guy, he mentioned that the suicide provision in his work policy was almost expired. Something like that.I forget the suicide reference from Pete. What did he say?
I wondered about that because we didn't see Don tell anybody about it, but there's no way he doesn't report that to maintenance. He's not a flake.yea, someone (Pete?) is probably going down that elevator shaft we now know is faulty.
Hey how 'bout that.'ChloeOBrienCTU said:Megan Draper is not who she says she is and nothing about her will eventually add up over time. The show has written most of the major characters into a corner. The only way to shake up the show is and to reinvent the conflict between the real **** Whitman and the fake Don Draper, is to have Megan become the female Don Draper right under his nose. Consider that Draper only got a job with the agency because he met Sterling and while Sterling was drunk, took advantage of the opportunity and convinced Sterling that he had, in fact, hired him when clearly he had not. Megan on the other hand, manipulated her way onto Don's desk, waited for his marriage to collapse, then encroached on the good will of his children. Don only first noticed her when he realized she was very good with his children. Which is something he was at least used to with Betty. For all Betty's faults, at least she served the role of handling the children and keeping them out of Don's way and life. Don's mother was also a prostitute and ignorant and uneducated and lived in poverty. Megan over time has carefully approached Don and shown all of her maternal, faithful, educated and refined traits, or at least the appearance of them. Megan was able to achieve what most of the other women on the show have not, she got him to commit completely. She was able to do this because while all the other women approached Don with the mindset of what Don could do for them, Megan did so with the mindset of what Don could do for her but with the appearance to Don that it was about what Megan could do for Don as his surrogate mother figure. My guess is Megan will be exposed, that's the direction the show is taking, to be something akin to what Don's real mother was like. Poor, ignorant, uneducated, unrefined, basically a more urban form of prostitute. And this exposure will start to unravel Don's own secret identity. The reason Don will stay with Megan is she presents the mother figure he's always wanted. The reason Don even was willing to ask that question is because Megan is likely just like him. Deceptive and manipulative. Except he's too arrogant to even consider that there are other people like him, taking advantage of the war and the changing role of society and how women operate in that workforce, looking to climb the social ladder through deception. In real life, apparently it's not a huge industry secret that Jessica Pare was and is sleeping with a high level married AMC executive with children. And rumored is part of the terms of Weiner's new deal with AMC included a provision to feature Pare prominently.
I don't think the elevator shaft is actually faulty. Seemed like Don's dream when he killed the ex-girlfriend.I wondered about that because we didn't see Don tell anybody about it, but there's no way he doesn't report that to maintenance. Don was actually in bed and had a Tony Soprano food-poisoning type fever dream when he killed the ex. What do you mean? I quit on Lost about five episodes in.Please don't turn this into some sort of "Lost"thread.

Yeah, they didn't show him waking up or anything. But the elevator shaft wasn't where the rest of the elevators were. And Don's reaction was far more muted than it would have been if that was real life. Anybody got it DVRed? 99% sure it was the elevator just next to the one Megan was in. Nothing weird or nefarious going on there.Anybody got it DVRed? I don't have it DVR'd but he had pushed the button to go down and catch her before she left the building. The button was to the right of the elevator she took, which is consistent with where it would have been if there was a shaft to his right. He heard the ding, walked over and realize there was no car there, so approached the shaft cautiously. I doubt it was a dream or his imagination.Anybody got it DVRed? Wow....never connected the dots with the Falling Man photo from 9/11.Pete committing suicide is too obvious....it seems we've had several characters go thru issues...only to rebound, so it it happens I bet its someone we don't expect.Falling down the elevator would bring up an LA Law comparison or two.
As far as death, possibly suicide, the season 5 poster got it started.

I think they take it a little too far. The references to "bombing" may be part of the language due to the presence of Vietnam in the public conscience. And the theme is rolling along, according to some.
