I think Sepinwall is a bit off on the offer to Don. Don't really think it was a lowball one. It was for big money but also a demotion in that he was likely not offered a partnership nor creative lead. It was a big offer dollar-wise, that is why he showed Roger.

So even though risking his partnership equity is silly he does have big offers on the back-burner.

As previously mentioned here I think the main reason Don wants to stick is to redeem his reputation to an extent. Plus, very important, Sterling, Cooper and Campbell all know of Don's original identity. If they became Don's competitors that may put him in a bind. The show hasn't really touched that but I would think it would be in Don's head. At the very least he is likely most comfortable at SCP.

 
I general the office stuff is good but 30 minutes of this week's show was just filler. I don't know how many times we have to go back to the Betty thing, she's very pretty but her character has no complexity, no draw, no real purpose

I find that I have lost interest -or never had any-in a lot of the characters (Betty, kids, Ed Francis, jim cutler, Megan, Ted Chaux(sp?), the eye patch dude, Harry Crane ). Even Peggy has worn on me. I think this is an example of an ensemble cast where more is less.

They need to really pick it up in the last four episodes IMHO because so far it's been a letdown

Well, there's only two Broke Girls, so maybe that's more up your alley.

agree on Betty, Henry and kids

Ted has some dark stuff going on, and he and Peggy have hardly appeared

Cutler is the big bad this year and i like how much of an ### he and Lou can be

Harry crane is great in the small doses they give him

 
I liked last week's episode much more than this week's. Betty and the kids are just wasted airtime at this point. Sally's relationship with Don is much more significant and should hopefully be featured prominently again by the finale.

I want Don to crush Lou and get back to being the man around the office again. Probably wishful thinking.

They are running out of time to make Peggy relevant again. Would like to see more of Pete also. It's a shame how they've abandoned characters that played major roles in earlier seasons. If you've watched this long, you want to see how those arcs play out. There's even less of Sterling lately.

I liked the Betty/Bobby story until she went completely off the rails about the sandwich. She looked like she actually cared. It may have been a reaction to her meeting with Francine, but she was trying.

Now I am back to not caring about Betty. But she still looks smoking hot

Why would you expect her to change even when she's trying? She doesn't connect with the kids because she doesn't understand them. That was the whole point of the later scene when she asked why they ended up not loving her. They don't "love" her (her conclusion, not the truth) because she reacts the way she does.

 
The whole season is about the redemption of Don. That was obvious from the ending of last season and validates his agreement to the terms.

Weak young boy, falls to the dark side. Seeks redemption through his kids. I liked this story when it was called Star Wars.

He's got a point. Eye-patch dude should get more screen-time than Sideburns McCheckercoat. I think he has some pretty good chemistry with busty, sorta-cute copywriter girl. Don't get me started on Miss RedBoobs.

Good episode (finally).

Clearly they were giving him an offer he'd never accept. He has a good offer in hand from the other place. But he said yes. So I'm thinking he's confident he'll rise in the company again despite all the enemies. He used to be invincible in the company because of his talent.

 
They made him an offer that is no-lose for them. Either he performs or they save a boatload of money.

It's a bit odd because they clearly fear having to compete against Don. They went for the moon with their initial offer. Don could have negotiated better terms but he said eff it I'm going to steamroll these clowns. Confidant Don is a good sign for the show.

Plus as he said he didn't want to walk out of the building with his tail between his legs and an uncertain future. He risked a lot of money but in that moment he needed this.

Which doesn't make sense for her to be upset. She gets to be a partner and doesn't have to deal with the account she whored to get it.

It's insulting to her and her sacrifice/effort. If Pete had to embarrass and humiliate himself to get Jaguar, you don't think he would be super bitter about Don poo-pooing it?

Point taken, but not if it was something that he was going to be shamed for after the fact. It's not as if her partnership was stripped away.
 
This show would be so much better if it was on Showtime and the female characters were regularly naked. Just thought that was worth noting.

Even if it was shameful and she got to keep the stake, she still sees part of her big sacrifice as reeling in a major client. It was a team move that helped everyone. Now with Jaguar out, she isn't the woman who sacrificed to land the agency's top client, she is the woman that screwed her way into a partnership.

 
Meh. She was always going to be the woman who screwed her way into the partnership. Maybe HER pride took a hit, but everyone views her the same regardless.

I don't think that's only it. I think there's a certain resentment with Joan that her particular path to partnership was the only path to partnership for someone with her obvious gifts.

So, yeah, Don was uncomfortable prostituting her out to a client, but it's not as if Don ever fought to have her replace Harry or to do account work or to be treated as a partner when she took over Lane's work. I think Joan resents Don because his paternalistic notion of being the good guy was still a form of sexism. And he seemed incapable of even seeing that.

 
Part of what makes it a great show, everything isn't always spelled out for you and there are multiple interpretations of motivations. In the end, like in life, it doesn't even need to make logical sense since so many of our reactions and decisions aren't logical.
