Madden 13 (1 Viewer)

49er fan

Has anyone bought/played Madden 13 yet? Is it worth buying? I usually get the itch to buy it around this time every year and more often than not I'm disappointed. It's usually the same game with updated rosters...anyone have a review?

I bought it and like it so far. Only played one game, though - an online team play game with my bro. The collision detection and tackling has really improved in terms of realism. The way guys get tackled and go down is more varied and realistic, and there's actually gang tackling now.

No fantasy draft. Also no Franchise Mode-it's called Connected Careers, haven't tried it out yet. Also, no mini games. However, much more realistic in terms of game play. No crazy interceptions anymore.

I bought it. It's not bad, but like typical Madden, it's always missing something or a prior feature was removed.

If you accept it for what it it, it's decent. If you buy it with high expectations, you'll be disappointed.

Head over to the Operation Sports Madden forums if you'd like a true snapshot of what Football fans who are gamers feel about it.

It's the first one I've picked up since Madden 10. Loaded up a Seahawks game and it still has Flynn as the starter and T.O. at wide out. It's pretty, but the tackles look terribly glitchy with bad physics. The one time I challenged a call I lost but they rambled on and on about how I won the challenge and how great the coach was to challenge it. Using the Kinect to call audibles is nice... but weird. My wife in the other room is all WTF are you doing??

So... nothing great, hopefully rosters will be straightened out after week one.

I think we need a new NFL Blitz please? lol Madden 13 is alright, but where is my franchise mode?
yea, wtf, no franchise mode? that was the only reason i played it...i don't play online because i always get the crap beat out of me

Wtf? Seriously, there is no franchise mode. Consider this game off my list. What a FAIL!
There is a franchise mode, its called Connected Careers, play as a coach. The limitations in place are: no fantasy draft, no editing, only control one team at a time (there is a workaround for this), and no co-op franchise on the same console. Other than that, Connected Careers mode is better than franchise ever was, with evolving player storylines of players you scout throughout the year, a realistic news/twitter feed, improved progression (now in the form of xp for the individual coaches and players, which can be assigned by the user or left to the CPU to simulate), scheme-specific overall ratings that are different from team to team, etc.Its not perfect, but its the best franchise mode there's been in a Madden game since at least '07, with lots of stuff reminiscent of NFL Head Coach '09 (in addition to what I think is the best-ever on-field gameplay) and if the features left out are very important to you, most of them will be back next year as they build on the new mode and bring back the fan-favorite things: fantasy draft, 32-team control, editing, etc.

SO far I like it, probably best one in about 5 years. Franchise mode is just connected career - coach. I played about 5 madden battles last night. I think the tackling is more realistic to me, previous years you could unrealistically stay on your feet if you practiced enough, with all games they're pushing online play so thats the direction you should expect it to go..

For competitive Madden players, like me, online is what its all about. Kinda boring just sitting there playing against a computer. (Same for COD)

Game is Marginal.

The gameplay is fun. Different... but there is still the same problems... but even more. THe "connected careers" is the franchise mode and its terrible. Cant have 2 owners in offline mode. No player edit, no create a team... I have played 20 games and big bruising backs will NEVER do well... it is all about speed. Lynch could not do aa thing but Turbin with better speed is ripping it up. Ratings dont mean alot.

Honestly... Get updated rosters for madden 12 and you will be better off.

I only like to play every once in a while so I skip buying madden every other year (sometimes two). Usually an impulse buy that I play for a few weeks then don't touch again.

I like the Game Plan feature...makes it alot easier for people like me or to invite my dad to play it. Obviously the game play is much faster but at least there are options to go any which way..

I bought it. I only play with my friends when they come over but i thought the gameplay was hands down the best maddon or any other football game maker has came out with. We loved it idk seemed really smooth and realistic to me

So, my friend and I have played a franchise each year in madden. I've yet to get madden 13, with this connected careers, are you saying I can't control say the rams and he control the saints through a franchise mode?

And what's with this coach thing? Can I actually play the game or do I pick the plays and the CPU plays ? If I can't play that's lame. Planned on getting this this weekend. Any feedback would be appreciated.

You can play as coach or any player and so can up to 31 of your friends in the same league. It works with your created player, current player or legendary players. You can retire your player and switch to any other position if you get bored with your current player/coach and continue with your franchise. For example, you could start your franchise as Tom Landry, switch to Jerry Rice and switch again playing as sweetness. You have the option to play it out online or offline and can have as many franchises as you want. Madden Moments return for free this year as does the MUT.

Just note... the killer for me was you can't have two or more owners in offline mode, and if you have buddies over to play they can't have their own team unless you sign in and sign out of profiles... the off season is going to be a bizatch.

In Connected Careers, players will have the option of controlling individual football players or coaches, the latter being more akin to the standard "call all the plays, use all the players" game of Madden. The mode can be played alone or in a league of 32 players, clearing away any distinctions between online and offline franchise modes we've been accustomed to.

Connected Careers' role-playing elements boil down to goal-based gameplay and "level-up-style" player progression. Looman explained that players can achieve weekly, season, and career milestone goals, such as rushing for over 1,000 yards in a season with a running back. By reaching these goals, players will earn experience points, which can be used to purchase skill and ability upgrades.
It's about time. I gave up on Madden when it was clear they were going to make you play idiotic mini-games, that half the time didn't even level up the right stat. You might do an offensive line drill, but if you actually watched your stat numbers before and after, it might be your receiving that went up. It was idiotic. All I've ever wanted was for Madden to have player progression that reflected how you did. A football version of something like the old Baseball Stars game, where you earned points based on what you did in a game, and could then choose what aspects of whichever player you wanted to level up.

There was nothing more annoying than having Corey Bradford double up Jerry Rice's single season records, and either have his stats stay unchanged or actually drop a point. Made it completely incapable of building up your team the way you wanted.

I may have to actually pick this up whenever work lets up enough I could play it. So like... November.

Had a funny mild-worry moment last night. So, you know how they have that ticker at the bottom that runs real news if you're online? The connected careers added a "news center" where real ESPN pundits tweet about the NFL. I saw tweets from Mort and Shefter talking about Chris Johnson going on season-ending IR. Being a CJ owner, I actually wondered...crap, are these tweets real? Had to go on real twitter just to make sure, lolz.

:goodposting: A comprehensive patch is also dropping 9/11 to fix a lot of off-line bugs in Connected Career Mode. But Madden 13 is a vast improvement from everything they have released this gen. And no doubt their best effort since Madden 2007 on the old XBOX/PS2. I enjoyed Madden 10 but it had some awful exploits (the flats) and a stale, cold un-immersive Franchise mode. Madden 12 while a nice franchise mode and franchise features....on the field was a mess. Tackling was god awful, the passing just atrocious. The new passing system for NCAA 13 and Madden 13 is a joy. The best wever for a console football game including NFL2K5 which is the gold standard of console football games (still play that BTW).CCM is a great step and will only get better. And yes Fantasy draft, full player edits etc are all coming back for Madden 14. It is about time EA tried a bold move and they did with Madden 13. Is it the best football game ever? Oh no. But it is a big step in the right direction for EA football.Finally.

so they included the replacement refs? cool

I'm getting mixed signals.

You're telling me that I can NOT do a fantasy draft? So a friend and I can't sit down, do a draft and start our teams from scratch, and then play those teams against each other?

That is ridiculous. One of the most fun parts of the game and it wouldn't have been hard to include at all.

If that's the case, I'm reversing my stance and absolutely NOT buying this game. Please tell me it isn't so...

Stick with Madden 10 or 12 then. Madden 13 does not have a fantasty draft feature this year. It will return for Madden 14.

They completly built a new franchise engine for 13 and could not get it in along with full user editing, playing as multiple teams etc.

No excuses IMO....but they rebuilt the entire mode. And most of what they did is outstanding. We finally have a living, breathing and immersive franchise experience. It has a lot of Head Coach 09 features etc.

They are finally on the right track both on and off the field.

It's absolutely ridiculous that they have an entire year to work on coming up with a few small tweaks to this game...yet they couldn't find a way to include a mode that they've had in all the recent prior versions of the same game.

Idiots.

I guess I'll wait until it hits $9.99 by December, rather than shell out $50 extra just to play it for the next 3 months. I was finally going to splurge this season...maybe next year.

Then again, they'll probably leave online play out of next year's version because it's too difficult to figure out how to include it.

Good shtick EA is running. Make Madden. Leave a bunch of features out. Put those features in next year's version but take out the other stuff folks loved. Rinse. Repeat. Profit.

After playing this game for about 20 hours I can safely say the Patriots have he best defense in the NFL...

I wish they played as good as they are in this game. Avg 3 ints a game.

I just picked it up, very cool so far. Jim and Phil don't shut up. Brady looks like he gained 50 lbs in the game.

Damn I was really hoping the NFL wouldn't renew their exclusive deal with EA. I'd say EA butchered the franchise, but that would imply they actually did something to the game.

I still miss the passing cones. Seriously. That was such an elegant way to look off receivers.

I used to be a Madden hound, played in all the online leagues and whatnot back in the day. I don't even play online anymore since they got rid of the SafePlay which sort of enforced semi-serious football decisions. (LIke, You can't just go for it on every 4th down regardless of field position). So far, I think the Connected Careers mode is pretty slick.... better than I can remember for a long time.

I'm going to play a little now if anyone wants to play a game :)

Will we ever get a defensive view (behind the defensive players) option in Madden? I've read that NCAA has this in the form of a player lock but I haven't played it. I've given up on Madden until it gets this feature since I don't enjoy playing defensive backwards.

Has anyone bought/played Madden 13 yet? Is it worth buying? I usually get the itch to buy it around this time every year and more often than not I'm disappointed. It's usually the same game with updated rosters...anyone have a review?
You haven't been playing Madden very long eh?

Thank you for this! Assuming the Sunday Ticket part works week 1, this is exactly what I'm doing with the game itself.
