This is a spin-off of the Pats / Jets thread since this weather system could impact several games on Sunday:

Jets / Pats

Cleveland / Buff

Pittsburgh / Jax

NYG / Wash

With many lineups do tomorrow afternoon this has the makings of a FFL Championship decided by the best weather report!!! Please post all relevant links here. Thanks!

Wouldn't all cold weather/non dome teams count here... if not this week, they're likely home next. Except for Green Bay... they're in Chicago. Waitaminute!

Two More Flat Waves.....Then....The Big One!

Tuesday, December 11, 2007

Today's flat wave is coming out of the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes with an area of rain, freezing rain and snow and it will move off the East Coast tomorrow morning. Snow from Iowa to Wisconsin to northern Michigan today, and then northern New England tonight will accumulate several inches. The big cities, including Boston, will get just rain, and probably not a whole lot of it. Our second flat wave will organize in Texas tomorrow where temperatures will again tumble and a cold rain will fall from Austin to San Antonio to Houston. That second wave will come toward the Ohio Valley tomorrow night and then exist off the Middle Atlantic coast later Thursday. There will be a stripe of snow on its northern and western flank and there are signs it will be cold enough for at least some snow in the New York City area. There are likely to be several inches of snow from northern Ohio across the northern half of Pennsylvania, the Hudson Valley and southern New England.

But all of this is just the preliminaries setting us up for the main event this weekend. Finally, it looks like a strong jet stream disturbance from the southwest will run eastward and interact with our stalled frontal system in the middle of the country. As a result we will finally see an intensifying storm come out of the southern Plains, toward the central Appalachians, up the East Coast and finally off the New England coast later Sunday. Such a storm should bring some helpful rains to the drought areas in the Southeast, and potentially a blizzard to parts of Pennsylvania, New York and New England. The devil of course is in the details, and since the details aren't yet clear on flat wave number two, they certainly aren't clear on the big weekend storm. Preliminarily, I think the area from western Maryland, across central and northern Pennsylvania, western and central New York and into New England have the best chance at a deep, wind-driven snow. I think there will be a surge of ocean air into the big cities so that from Washington to Philadelphia it's mainly rain. In New York I think there will be some snow, but having grown up on the South Shore of Long Island, I've seen too many potential snowstorms turn to rain. And this is December, not March, and the water is still relatively warm. If the wind turns into southeast for even a short period of time we will have rain into New York City, and I think that is what will happen.

These are the kind of situations where the computer models will flip and flop with every run making forecasting especially challenging. But, it's the kind of situation we weather weenies live for, so.....keep in touch.

Do many leagues really have lineups locked tomorrow?

Any able to post any data about how heavy snow (A)(E)ffects fantasy production? I would assume you up DST and possibly RBs, but would be interested in any real data.

A quick-hitting winter storm will bring heavy snow to parts of the Northeast today.

Heavy snow and winter storm warnings have been posted from southern New York and northeastern Pennsylvania to much of Southern New England.

Some cities included in the warnings are Binghamton, N.Y., White Plains, N.Y., Hartford, Conn., Providence, R.I., Worcester, Mass., and Boston, Mass.

Accumulations may be in the 5 to 10-inch range in these areas with snowfall rates of 1"+ per hour at times making travel very treacherous.

New York City will likely see accumulating snow, however with sleet and rain mixing with the snow and warm ground temperatures totals may be held down in the 2 to 4-inch range.

Southern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey will see a mix of snow, sleet and rain, while south of the Mason-Dixon Line, mainly rain showers will prevail.

Attention will then turn to the central Plains, where a new winter storm will be taking shape on Friday.

Heavy snow will develop from the Front Range, into the western Plains, and then spread into parts of the Mid-west Friday night, into the Ohio River Valley on Saturday.

Meanwhile, locally heavy rain will develop across the Lower Mississippi Valley, and into the Tennessee Valley.

Saturday and Saturday night, rain will change to snow through the Tennessee Valley, with heavy snow developing into the Mid-Atlantic.

A new low pressure will form off the eastern New England Coast by Sunday, bringing heavy snow and wind to the New England States.

Question is.....how would 20-30 mph winds AFFECT the passing game? Current weather.com forecast says 27,28mph for NY and NE. 21,22 mph for Pitt, Cle, even Carolina. Wind and colder weather in the north seems like it would hamper the passing game which ultimately AFFECTS the running game. Cold stiff fingers may mess with some QBs, and not so much others......

I've been debating on whether or not to switch out my QB for a waiver wire wonder, not in the wind zone.

AND....Who is Robin? :lmao:

Robin is Metro News One's best reporter.

Local weathermen in Pittsburgh are saying we're going to get hit with snow Saturday evening and could get 3 or 4". Sunday is supposed to be cold (28) with flurries.

I hope a Noreaster hits the Pats-Jets game.
I am in Boston for training this week and they have already started cancelling flights for today and advised that if you are coming back on Monday, you better arrive Sunday morning.

Cleveland expected to get anywhere from 6-12 inches of snow Saturday night into Sunday.

Saturday Night: snow. Lows in the lower 20s. Chance of snow 90 percent.

Sunday: snow showers. Breezy with highs around 30. Chance of snow 90 percent.

I used to know a weather forecaster for a local TV station. He once told me not to trust any forecast more than 3 days away.

Even though NE vs NYJ is the main event....in terms of fantasy. Lots more games will be affected than just that one.

I'm in Charlotte and it's going to be interesting on Sunday. Not too cold but 20mph winds should be messin' with the passing game. Not that the Panthers have any kind of chance.....they are horrible. I'm playing against Hasselhoff and Josh Brown so bring on some wind!! Let's grind it out!!

might go warner over hasselback...maybe.

No big surprise but the Steelers-Jaguars game should be messy. It has been raining hard here all week and tomorrow night we're supposed to get a rain-snow-sleet mix. Supposedly it will be mainly snow on Sunday during game time (1"-2") but could be either rain or a mix.

Heinz field should be in fine shape I am sure.

Normally I would say Jax coming up to Pittsburgh in December is an advantage to Steelers but the Steelers passing game is better than Jax and Jax's weakness on D is their secondary. If the weather affects the passing game I think it hurts the Steelers more than the Jags.

Should be an interesting game with or without bad weather.

Weather.com is saying 21mph winds for Sunday. Are the forecasters saying anything about that??

:praying: for a huge mud/snowfest in Pittsburgh.......where my opponent has Roethlisberger and FWP and I have the Jacksonville defense.

I have FWP and my opponet has Roethlisberger, I'm kinda hoping for a mudfest too, hopefully FWP isn't wearing his fumbling elbow pads Sunday.

Ditto. With Fitz in my lineup it's always tempting anyway...

Next wintry blast 'much more powerful'

Residents in the Northeast were digging out of a major snowfall Friday and the midsection of the country was still without power after a deadly ice storm as both regions prepared for another major wintry blast.

As the ice storm moved east from the Midwest it changed from ice to snow and dropped anywhere from 2 inches to a little more than a foot across the Northeast region on Thursday

In places like Binghamton, N.Y., the snowstorm brought between 6 and 10 inches of snow, closed schools and businesses and is being blamed for a traffic fatality in the area.

And more snow is on the way for the region.

"It's going to be pretty ugly," said Tom Moore, senior meteorologist at The Weather Channel. "The next storm is much more powerful, windier, messier."

The National Weather Service in Binghamton predicts that up to 7 more inches could be on the ground by Sunday, left behind by the Nor'easter that should arrive late Saturday night or early Sunday morning.

The snow is expected to be heavy on Sunday. Snow could mix with sleet in northeastern Pennsylvania, but a foot of snow or more is possible where the precipitation remains all snow, the weather service said.

Ithaca, N.Y., had up to a foot of snow Thursday and predictions of near-blizzard conditions by Sunday morning had people scrambling to get ready.

While the snow in the Northeast didn't cause the same problems as it did in the middle of the country, it made travel difficult. Flights were delayed or canceled and the heavy snow snarled traffic with fender-benders from Pennsylvania to Massachusetts. Most schools canceled classes.

In Massachusetts, commuters spent hours in gridlock on roadways.

On Friday Gov. Deval Patrick defended the state's response to the heavy snowfall.

Patrick said he advised state workers to leave for home no later than 11:30 a.m. Thursday, and private businesses were encouraged to send employees home early too.

But the governor said he suspected many workers waited until snow already was falling. As a result, roads became clogged with slow-moving traffic, making snowplowing difficult.

Thursday's storm left 6 to 10 inches of snow across much of Massachusetts, and up to a foot south of Boston.

Some drivers abandoned cars, while others waited at highway rest areas for the traffic to clear.

The storm brewing in the Rocky Mountains was expected to bring between 2 and 6 inches of snow to parts of Kansas and Oklahoma, said Ken Harding, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Topeka, Kan. The weather service issued winter weather watches for the northwest two-thirds of Oklahoma from Friday afternoon through Saturday morning.

The system could complicate restoration efforts to the some 500,000 homes and businesses in Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri still without power after the first storm darkened 1 million customers at its height earlier this week.

In Missouri, the weather service said two waves of snow Friday night and Saturday could dump up to 7 inches of snow.

The storm that hit the nation's midsection earlier was blamed for 35 deaths, mostly in traffic accidents.

In Oklahoma, many emergency shelters already were filled, with some residents on their fourth or fifth day of waiting for power to return. Kim Harrel has been staying at an American Red Cross shelter in downtown Tulsa since Monday.

"It's a very humbling thing in life," Harrel said, watching her kids play a game of Twister in the gymnasium on Thursday.

More than a foot of snow was predicted for places in Vermont, New Hampshire, upstate New York and northern Pennsylvania.

"It's a pretty wild storm,"Moore said. "There will be a lot of very strong winds in coastal New England and Cape Cod. It will wreak a lot of havoc."

David Rose expects to be one of the few beneficiaries of the snow.

Rose owns an auto body and repair shop.

"We'll have a lot of collision repair, batteries, tires and a lot of things people realize they needed, wipers for the snow," said Rose, whose shop is in Columbia, Conn.

The old adage- "Be careful what you wish for" is sure in play for me this weekend...

As both a Jet fan and FF opponent I started out rooting for wind and snow to slow down Brady & Co. The width and breadth of this storm now has a big chunk of my starting lineup in question...

Hasselbeck, Warner, Kitna

Portis, Gore

Fitzgerald, Galloway

That's why they call it the mistake by the lake.

Checking the latest forecast for Foxboro, it doesn't look like they're expecting too much precip today or tomorrow, BUT the 20-30 mph winds are still predicted.

Portis will run wild against NYG on Sunday..Field Turf is MUCH better than grass in the snow/rain...

FBG will earn their money on updated cheatsheets this week...
With all the bad weather games, i'm a little surprised that Bulger (#21) and Holt (#14) are this low playing in a dome against the Packers.
maybe because they are playing against the Packers? thats a very good defense..GB can and likely will, put a lot of pts on the board. That, in turn, will force Bulger into more passing plays, giving GB more chances for ints, fumbles, sacks..basically, Bulger is going to get killed by that GB front 7...
