Manly Stuff I Don't Know: Mixing 50:1 gas/oil (1 Viewer)

When I bought my house on 5 acres with a bunch of dead trees my GB hands me his 20" Stihl and gives me one piece of advice:

"Whatever you do, don't let the tree fall on you."

I thought it was a joke, but once I got started there were a few times when I needed to move quickly to avoid being smashed.

I'm on the "maintenance committee" of my local mountain bike park. It's about 2,500 acres of trails, pretty damn nice. Once every month or so during the season we head out with chainsaws (and beer) and really have some fun cutting down on the dead trees. We did this two weekends ago, maybe got 25 or so decent sized ones, including maybe 3-5 a few feet across. Stihl's ain't nutin' to mess with.....

Also, keep your chains sharpened. 5 minutes with a file will save you 10x that amount of time and aggravation.

Handsaw down?

Used it yesterday.

And you're posting so you must still have the use of your limbs. Why change what's working? Just think of it like you're doing it old-school.

Just because I don't know the best way to mix 50:1 gas and oil does not mean I can't use a small chainsaw without chopping my arm off.
