Manning: Already looking ahead to trade / ww targets? (1 Viewer)

I'm sure you are, just as I am, looking for potential 2012 gems purely predicated on where PM lands. Since we don't know which team he's likely to land on, we will no doubt whiff on some waiver wire pickups and even some trades, but you have to do it now or pay a premium later. I've traded for Decker in a couple of leagues, Julius Thomas in one, and picked him off the WW in another. Also looking to get Andre Roberts if he's cheap. Picked up Doucet off the waiver wire and the same with Housler. DeMaryius Thomas would be a nice add, but you won't get him cheap with or without PM. Even more so with Fitzgerald. The one thing that will hurt Decker, Roberts, Doucet and the like, is Reggie Wayne going where Peyton goes. Is that set in stone? I also took a flyer on Virgil Green in a couple leagues. I know he's suspended for the first 4 games in 2012, but what the hell.

whose waiver wire is open during the off season.
Most of the leagues I play in. Why shut down your league in the off-season? Some are blind bid wiavers and a couple days of FCFS and a few are FCFS until the draft. DYNASTY = YEAR ROUND to some of us. Hell, a lot of us.Who in the hell wants to play in a boring no activity league in the off-season ;) I may be cutting a couple of my leagues next year for that very reason, but most have a level head and do some blind bidding combined with some first-come-first-serve during the off-season.

Cash generator that we need.

Lots of them.
lame
Why is it lame? What's wrong with blind bidding then FCFS for Sat and Sun during the off-season? Is it that you want a break from your dynasty league during the off-season and don't want active owners to get the jump on you with picking up players? Well, if that's the case you shouldn't play in dynasty leagues. Dynasty = 365/24/7

I just started a league a month ago, I set up the rules to allow for activity throughout the year. RFA's will be done in March. A short FA auction in April. Rookie Draft in May. And Blind Bidding after that. Plus, practice squads established the week before the season starts.

I guess some people are just part timers. :P

If the topic of dynasty waiver schedules is worth discussing, let's do it in its own thread please and not hijack this one.

I'm not targeting any players based on Manning potentially landing on any particular team at this time. There are just too many variables for me at this time with so many teams still considered potential landing spots not to mention that players may be coming and going to these squads with free agency. I don't have 18 WR spots available in my leagues to try to account for these variables.

My preference at this point is to not chase potential Manning landing spots.

I've grabbed Clyde Gates and Housler as Manning fliers. Tried to get Roberts in a package about a week ago. Doucet. Hartline may even be valuable in a weird sort of Manning way, but no one like to roster Hartline.

Thinking Deep:

Sampson/Williams

Willis/Dell

LSH/Alfonso

Fannin/Ball/JJ

Clay

Gotta keep your two toggle spots open (or drop your K/Def in the offeason) where you reserve short term fodder spots for moves just like these. Guys you'll drop on a dime to chase players impacted by other future moves being made. Offseason is the best time to do this. You roster Housler now for nothing at the chance Manning goes there, then you flip him once Manning does in a package deal.

What are your thoughts on Julius Thomas if -

A) Virgil Green's suspension sticks

B) Peyton does to go Denver

C) Dallas Clark doesn't go with him

D) All of the above

Martellus Bennett. I think he gets a starting gig this year and it might be Miami or 'zona.

The Clyde Gates pick up mentioned above could really work out but its hard to see it with Reggie bush there.

At this point, I have to think it is all but a given that Wayne or clark end up with Mannig somewhere.

Still too raw. He's not ready to mesh with Manning like Wayne and clark did (it took Clark about 3 years to learn what was going on out there. And Thomas with anyone else, I just don't know. I can't see a scanerio where it pans out anywhere remotely close to a Gronk/Graham situation where he erupts next year.

I play in zealots full IDP dynasty leagues. I don't think I have ever seen a team carry more than about 12 or 13 WR and my teams are deep enough with talent at all positions that I am not going to drop a top 20 LB to chase a WR that might do something if Peyton Manning might sign with a certain team.My point is maybe really really deep dynasty leagues allow you to do this but unless you are normally rostering a dozen or more WR I think you would have to be pretty selective on who you were chasing in hopes Manning signs with team X.

I might look to sell a few guys actually. The Manning hype is intense right now. The WRs for the teams "in contention" definitely have a decent bump in value at the moment.

would be funny if Garcon, Wayne, and Tamme followed him after you make all these moves
I have Tamme in two leagues and Wayne in one. Even if Wayne goes with him to Denver I can still see Decker being huge. Think of Austin Collie in targets in 2009 & 2010. Plus, Decker is a lot better WR than Collie and different one as well.

Since there are at least 5 teams he could reasonable go to, and we have no real clues which is most likely, doesn't this strategy entail picking up a lot of waiver wire WRs? I guess if you have huge rosters you could do that but in my league the roster size is limited to 22 and most of the better players mentioned in the thread are owned. I just don't see how a) if your league has small rosters and therefore a number of these guys available, b) how can you have room on your roster for more than one of these guys? Or, a) if your league has large rosters and therefore room to pick up 3-5 marginal WRs, then, b) how are any of them available on waivers?

I didn't say pick them all up, speculate. You may get lucky with one.

In my Hyper-IV Hawks-Only League we have a year-round, 24/7 waiver wire. Each team has interns staffing our team headquarters round the clock, so we're pretty much ready to pounce on any news in a moment's notice.

Weak. In my UltraMEGA Austrialian-Box-Jellyfish League we have our own futures market on which thousands of options are traded daily. The volume on Chansi Stucky and Jaymar Johnson has been off the charts the past 18 hours. Puts on Devone Bess and Brian Hartline are so oversold you'd have better luck shorting APPL. 2 of our owners moved to Hong Kong a couple years ago so that they could be 12 hours ahead of east coast time and get their NFL news first, before the teams in the US making the moves even know what's happening.

Leave the shtick to Otis, GUNZ

I think it would be hilarious if whoever gets Manning just signs the entire squad of Colts who were cut free. They know the offense with him, in some ways it would make sense if you want to get the most out of your investment in Peyton. Doesn't mean you have to depend on them as your main starters either, but having Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark to help the rest of the receivers come up to speed with how Peyton does it wouldn't hurt things.
