Manning did NOT "throw the OL under the bus"! (1 Viewer)

If I read this one more time I'm going to hurl. I know not everybody here is exactly a rocket scientist (I make no claims myself) but for about the 100th time:

He was specifically ASKED and was answering a question about the OL protection during the interview (which the media dorks conveniently left out). What was he supposed to say? They played great? He was kind in simply saying they "had protection problems." Of course it wasn't all their fault - and he wasn't saying it was.
:goodposting: Unfortunately, you're never going to change the minds of Manning haters, no matter how much you try to use common sense.

My point is the whole gameplan stunk. THe protection, the playcalling, Manning himself. All of it was ROTTEN. I don't think anyone wearing white and blue that day would try and say otherwise. THey don't sent the left guard to the press conference. SHould he have said something different? Maybe. But I don't understand why everyone is so up in arms because he told the truth: "We had problems in protection."

Well, friggin, DUH!
Colin, don't worry. Some of us got your point -- those of us who aren't jumping at the chance to tear Manning down after a sub-par game.

Manning made about as innocuous a statement a person could make. He was asked if there were problems in protection. The answer is yes or no. And the correct answer is yes. He did not even come close to doing anything wrong. Not even close. For heavens sake. This is absurd. And I am no Peyton Manning fan. But the fact is he has over the years shown just fine character. The criticism he is now receiving is just piling on.

Wrong. The answer is "We had problems in a lot of areas" or "As a team we didn't play well enough to win" or "Pittsburgh put a lot of pressure on us and we all could have done a better job handling it" or even "You know I'm not going to publicly discuss the performance of the other players". Just because the press baits you with a yes or no question that asks you to implicate other team members doesn't mean you have to bite. And saying "I'm trying to be a good teammate" or whatever he said doesn't excuse him from the need to be one. If they had asked "Does your coach suck?", "Did you guys have a rotten game plan" or "Did your left guard cost you the game" it would be bad for him to have said "Yes," even if he believed it. While he is considered a "leader" and is the most visible player, it is not his position to publicly discuss the failings of other team members. That's part of being "a good teammate"

Just for the sake of clarification, I am not a Manning hater. I actually like him. I also don't care that he threw the OL under a bus, they deserved some heat. I also respect a non-stock answer.I just don't think it was the smartest thing he could have done to bash his OL on national TV. A QB NEEDS his OL badly, you want to foster a respect there. Ripping them on TV (even if it wasn't meant - that's how it was interpreted ad nauseum on TV programs I'm sure the OL noticede) is not going to help his cause. He should have publicly taken the blame, and if he had problems with the OL, taken them to task for it in-house. Calling them out in the media is not going to endear him to those guys.Like Joe said, if he had the opportunity to do it over, I guarantee he would.

Hey Manning. How about if the pressure is too strong you try changing your drop and the depth of your routes for some quick hitters. You could also have tried to roll the pocket but you are too cement footed for that.
:goodposting: This is exactly the problem. Especially on that last 3rd and 2 - throw a short pass to convert the 3rd down instead of throwing a low % pass down the field.

Just say this today:

Quarterback Peyton Manning refuted charges that he blamed his offensive line for the Colts' playoff loss. "I was perceived to have done something that I was 100 percent trying to avoid doing," Manning said at an awards presentation in Detroit. "You're saying 'the offensive line.' I never said those words. I've never put the hat on anybody else. I never will do that and I did not do it that day. I've always been a team player. I think people wanted me to pinpoint where the breakdowns were and specify, which I 100 percent did not do. I said we had protection problems, which we did. When I said 'protection,' protection is a concept. It's the quarterback. It's the scheme. It's you-name-it. Those were the words I chose and obviously I was surprised by the reaction, but I just don't [criticize teammates]."

There is no excuse for what Manning did. We should stop trying to justify it.Jake Delhomme and Jake Plummer both took responsibility themselves for their playoff losses. It could have been easy to blame others.

Manning played just a hair better than the two guys you mentioned in his loss

We?There's a whole bunch of people in here that are doing anything but trying to justify it

Unbelievable. I didn't think I could disrespect Manning more, but he proved me wrong. This guy is one of the worst people who ever lived.

Yeah. I agree. But not really. Actually, not even close.

If this is true, who is your idol? Let me guess. Osama Bin Laden?

OK, I get what he's trying to say. But why qualify the response with "I'm trying to be a good teammate?" I'm not buying this. Good attempt at redemption by Peyton, but I'm not buying it.

He's not even the worst person on the Colts (at least he hasn't beaten his wife or taken a handgun into a bar and shot it in the air) - or who has recently played pro sports in Indianapolis (gee, who am I talking about here). You've gone WAY too far.

I'm embarrassed for you :bag: You must feel terrible about making such a stupid statement.

This is funny. This guy lead his team to 3 and out after 3 and out to start the game when his team needed an answer. He was missing receivers by 10 yards, turning his back and bailing under pressure, and dancing around like he had to take a wiz in the pocket. Then he throws a huge INT that should have ended the game. But you can take solace in the fact that his performance was a 1.5 and theirs was a 1.

If Manning went into a burning vets office and saved every single animal including the snakes and goldfish, this guy would talk about how he was just showboating. Some people just hate the Mannings. What are you going to do? They are not logical about it, so just ignore it.

Just a thought here, but I'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic.

Tom Brady.
Of course he is  It's not like that was hard to figure out.

Just like it's hard to figure out who your team is.
Of course it's easy to know who my team is, and it's also easy to see that I'm not a Tom Brady hater, Brett Favre hater, or ....

Actually it's you I feel sorry for, you took some really stinky bait. Calling a football player who has no history of violence or off the field atrocities one of the worst people ever should be beyond obvious that it's bait, chomp, chomp, you've been hooked. :bye:
