Manning updates? Lotta rumors swirling (1 Viewer)

Wouldn't Waynes ADP drop somewhat? Granted these are rumors and speculation but Manning seems to be slipping a bit but Wayne hasn't in most rankings.I may just be confused.
I'm beginning to wonder the same for both Wayne & Addai
How many regular season games do you think Manning could miss? If the answer is 6 or more, then you have to drop Wayne and company down, but I think the general consensus is that he might miss 1, if any at all.
I dunno. Without any infection worries a Bursa sac decreases mobility, increases stiffness and pain. Look at who the colts have weeks 1-3 (with week 4 on bye) I can't imagine them wanting to risk Peyton (and the future of their franchise) feeding him to the DL's of the Vikings and The Jaguars. That doesn't seem like a nice due to ease into. With a bye in 4, why not sit him another month and fully recover, especially if they are having issues/movement allong the offenseive line.
Sit against the JAGUARS? The team they need to beat in their division? Bad, bad idea. That would be a concession for getting a WC berth at best.
You know they play them again later in the season two. A twice every year after that.

The short answer is because they will lose without him.
I dunno. Pretty solid D. Strong running game and receivers. vs the bears? The vikes possibly sans QB. And the Jaguars, with no receivers and MJD possibly hurt?I think if your backup qb scares you in that situation, you might wanna get another.

"Before I rush off, here's one other thing for curious minds. When Manning was asked a direct question today about if he ever had a second surgery, he didn't deny it."

Yeah - they play the Jaguars on the road later in the season. Conceding a home loss to the Jags is a recipe for losing the division. No way they should plan to sit him in August for the Jaguars - only if he's truly injured the week of the Jaguars game should they even consider it (and not any earlier). Besides - he's practicing already - you really think he won't be back by week 3?

My money is on him playing week 1.

From Sportsline.

Looks like increased workload and no extra soreness after practice. Doesnt mention anything about swelling at all.

Peyton Manning, QB IND

News: Now Peyton Manning can start fine-tuning the mechanics, timing and rhythm. Just don't expect him to try it in Thursday night's preseason game against Cincinnati. Coach Tony Dungy increased the two-time league MVP's workload Wednesday, one day after he finally returned to practice and showed no lingering effects from the knee surgery that kept him out for the past six weeks. "We didn't have him in team work (Tuesday), but he did fine and hasn't experienced any problems," Dungy said. "So far, so good. He'll get a little more work today." Manning, who has never missed a start in his 10-season NFL career, had surgery July 14 to remove an infected bursa sac from his left knee. Team officials initially said their franchise quarterback would miss four to six weeks, and all along Dungy, team president Bill Polian and others contended Manning was on schedule amid speculation he might miss more time. That didn't end the questions about Manning being hurt worse than first feared, nor did it end the speculation about whether he would keep his streak of 160 consecutive starts intact Sept. 7 against Chicago. Things changed Tuesday when Manning returned to practice one day after the six-week anniversary of surgery.

Analysis: Manning threw passes with velocity and moved around on his legs Tuesday, but as with most injured players, the real test came Wednesday morning when Manning returned to the team complex. The result: No soreness, which prompted Dungy to gradually increase Manning's workload. Continue to draft Manning as a No. 1 Fantasy option worth a pick at the end of Round 1 or beginning of Round 2 in all leagues.

Report: Peyton Manning had second surgery on his knee last month

by BigBlueShoe on Aug 21, 2008 11:56 AM EDT in Colts News

The more I read on this subject, the more I get the feeling the Colts have flat out lied to the fans and the media. Michael Lombardi, the former personnel head for the Oakland Raiders, does a column for The National Football Post. He's a knowledgeable guy with friends and contacts throughout the NFL. His column dated for today reveals from very serious information on Peyton Manning's surgery and recovery:

Apparently Manning had to go through another procedure on his knee to clean things out after having his bursa sac removed last month. What is the most concerning is not the second operation (which the Colts are denying), but that they cannot control the swelling in Manning's knee and any physical movement causes MORE swelling. Once he returns to the game, gets hit, has to place a load on the knee, and drive the ball, there can be swelling. All I know is that there is MUCH more here than meets the eye. Manning has the trainer come over to HIS home for rehab and is rarely seen. Now, I have been with some big-time quarterbacks in my career like Joe Montana and Rich Gannon and never have they rehabbed from home. I thought this was not an issue and that Manning would be back.

Unless Lombardi is lying, or his sources are full of i

t, the Colts have been fibbing to fans and media about Peyton Manning's recovery. A second procedure is a pretty big friggin' deal, even if it was to clean up some minor stuff in the knee. Even if the knee is fine, and has no structural damage, it's pretty damn important to tell your fans (who are bought tickets to the opening of their public funded stadium at $160 bucks a pop).

The more you read into this, with players and coaches getting quoted as saying they'd like Peyton back for the opener, but... the more I get the sense the Colts are softening the fanbase up to the prospect that Jim Sorgi will start Week One against the Chicago Bears. We're hearing players saying things like "We'd like to have him back, but he just needs to not miss any playoff games."

Ugh.

Again, there is also encouraging news, like Peyton leading the offense through a walk through yesterday. But if Peyton did indeed have a second "routine procedure," then all this stuff Bill Polian has fed to us about everything being fine and right on schedule is complete and utter bullsh*t.

I certainly hope I'm wrong. I hope Lombardi is wrong and he is totally full of it. But, from the looks of it, Lombardi looks credible, and the Colts are not credible when it comes to reporting injury updates. They are also just flat our BAD at rehabbing their players and getting them ready to play. They screwed it up for Bob Sanders in 2006, Marvin Harrison in 2007, and now maybe Peyton Manning in 2008.

Again, I hope this is false. It just doesn't seem false, and Bill Polian and the Colts crappy PR department might have a lot of explaining to do.
BUMP for MAD PROPS TO DJCOLTS. It was based on this info unearthed from the muck of prseasons bloggers that led me to pass on (and not keep manning in a 10 team keeper at a second round value) Instead I tossed Manning back and was roundly ridculed when I said matter of factly "my sources say Manning had a second surgery and will struggle much worse than people think". So I drafted Andre Johnson, and then some guy named Jay Cutler (when I never would have taken Cutler if I had Manning. It's collective work like this thread that is why FBG is the BOMB.

DJColtss. I (and many others here I am guessing) Owe you a nice cold drink!

Now if you ever leave that boring ####hole and come to Atlanta like I've been screaming for years this might happen.

For whatever its worth, they had Mort on the fantasy part of NFL live the other day and he specifically said that people should draft him as they normally would in any other year. He briefly noted that Manning is viewing tapes of all the practices and the surgery is a non-issue.
Mort! things like this are hilarious in retrospect. Let's you know how much of the 'inside info' the big names at ESPN get, are really just spin pieces from the organizations...
