Marcus Smart shoves fan (1 Viewer)

I love how Smart's reaction seems to come as a complete shock and surprise to this guy and the people around them.

What reality are you living in where you talk to someone like that and they don't react like that?

The O-face along with the frantic pointing from the woman with him... :lmao:
Which may indicate that the fan did not revile him racially. The fans were shocked by Smart's over-reaction and were supportive of the ######## given Smart's over-reaction. In the end I don't know what was said. I am certain there are sports show producers out there right now with lip readers going over th e tapes trying to keep this story alive. Whether that will add insight I doubt.

Some fans think that a ticket brings with it the freedom to say and do whatever you want when it comes to screaming at players and whatnot. Like the had with Noah on Miami last year, it's embarrassing. That guy will get a lot if pats on the back at work today so the cycle will continue. Morons.

I don't mind heckling, especially if it's funny and/or good-natured (I'm thinking of the Bullets/Wizard uber-fan here - maybe a DC-area FBG can fill me in on who it is). You bring in race, family members, etc. and that's not cool.

Nice. Smart is a dirtbag for immediately flopping the race card. Hope all his flopping and whining does drop his draft stock this year. Fan was definitely a loud mouth who you hate to sit by, but people were ready to crucify him on a lie.

While this was the first time Smart shoved a fan, Smart has already clearly established a pattern of behavior destructive to his team. Given how beloved he was last season and how respected he was for coming back to enjoy the college experience one more year instead of turning pro, it's surprising just how much capital he's burnt towards his reputation.
While not being much of a college bb fan, I'm focused on this paragraph. If someone is willing to step up, be a real man, and come alongside this kid and help him grow up, I think it would be better for him. Yes, everything he's done since he was determined to be athletically gifted has been overlooked or glossed over, it's time for him to learn to live like a man in a man's world. Yes, it absolutely sucks that a fan taunted him; but he's got to learn to be the more mature person and walk away...especially so since now he may get a reputation as a hot head who can be easily provoked. If he can honestly and truly become more mature as a result of this incident, he'll be a better man for it...something this world could use.
Going into the season, there were the Skip Baylesses criticizing Smart for turning down guaranteed millions from the NBA, but for the most part, folks were tripping over themselves racing to praise his maturity. Smart said his decision to come back for another year at OSU was as much about wanting to have another year of childhood before becoming a corporation in the NBA as it was about working on his game.

I don't know if this season Smart has regressed emotionally, or if another year in the spotlight has just exposed a lot of flaws that he couldn't hide anymore. I can't speak to the difficulty of overcoming the trauma he experienced as a kid - it's so far beyond anything I've had to endure, I can't relate to how one gets through the day carrying that history around. However, the player I respected a lot for how well he handled pressure last season is gone. He's spent this season flopping around and pointing fingers, not leading.

Audio of incident released by TechShot by courtside camera also recording audio. Can't see the faces during the exchange, but you can definitely hear the phrase "You piece of crap".

The KU fans at Phog.net are showing no mercy for Smart. He became an enemy of the KU fanbase hitting a roundoff/back tuck on the Jayhawk logo at Allen as the clock ran out for Oklahoma State's big win in Lawrence last year. (Personally I thought that move was awesome; the kid took over the game down the stretch and earned the right to celebrate a big win.) Anyway, a couple weeks ago the Phog.net crew crushed Smart for his flopping tactics with an astonishing run of Photoshop/MS Paint posts inserting his flops into other incidents and works of art.

Another run is starting up in the aftermath of this fan-shoving incident. Like The Marcus Smart "Jump To Conclusions" Mat, or making him the newest Angry Bird or his new CD of songs that capture his emotions on this bumpy ride we call life.

Would have liked the coach to walk up to the fan and simply ask him what he said to hi player and invite him into the locker room after the game with cameras, security, the whole nine yards and ask him to apologize if he used a racial epitaph. Would probably not go over well but I would do that or something more and go with an ejection, you gotta support the player in something like that and then talk to the player later.

I don't hold players responsible when some fans run their mouths like that. Also wanted evil things to happen to fatso's wife in the stands pulling the couple shocked look, she as worse than the hubby.
Leave it to you to give the racist a chance at redemption with a simple 'I'm sorry'
As a HC I thought it was the high road. Show some superiority over your emotions and professionally put the guy in his place. Bigger part is to back your player. I would have been walking towards the stands for sure and even if I got suspended a game or week, would have been worth it, not right the way that student athlete was treated. What kind of example as men are we portraying here? ;)
As a HC? When have you ever been a HC? An HC generally has enough poise to be smarter than that here, as evidenced by the OSU coach here. You wouldn't last a week coaching YBA.

I'll be honest, I have not been in an fight with a 12/13 yo since I was in 7th grade. But thats just me. You do what you gotta do.
I haven't either but I think a lot of the "men" on here would hide under their beds in fear if one was after them....
I will safely assume that is you in your avatar? You would not stand a chance against Marcus Smart. What are you thinking?
I am sure he would just have his 12 year old sister to beat me up lol...
You flopped at dodging that question, Linus. The tight medium shirt helps you though

Robin Fickers was the Bullets fan who did all the heckling and I did sit near him once and don't recall him ever saying anything that nasty.

Orr and Texas Tech now say the magic phrase that set Smart off was "you piece of crap".

If that truly is the worst of what Orr said, then Smart is getting off easy. If he made up the racial slur accusation, he's the worst flopper in North American sport.

If Tech's version of the event is indeed what happened, I'd pass on Smart in the draft. His flopping habit isn't just a playing style; it's part of a personality disorder that would make him a locker room cancer.
I'd be surprised if Smart invented that so quickly. It's not like he had time to figure out what would be the best way to get out of this. Looked like he was explaining himself within seconds.

I'm also sure he's been called a lot worse than a piece of crap. Can't imagine that setting him off.
That was such a ####### canned response. It doesn't take a whole lot of thinking on your feet to play the race card.

Probably all the more reason to have someone come alongside him and teach/help/mentor him.

FWIW, I could care less about his draft stock or playing abilities. I care more about the man he could be.

That's the kind of heckling I like; the funny kind that even has the player smiling. IIRC, Sir Charles enjoyed it...or not. ;)

The game I sat near him was against the New Jersey Nets and Darryl Dawkins was his target and he got Dawkins so heated he turned around and told Fickers to #### or else and Fickers just laughed and kept on talking.Chocolate Blunder was his catch phrase and you could tell Dawkins was getting heated the more and more he talked.Buck Williams on the other hand thought it was hilarious and just rolled with it.

Really don't understand how people get behind the notion that a single word is so inflammatory that anyone of color who hears it is justified in going postal on someone for saying it...as if that person of color simply has no control.

I wouldn't say that they lose control. I'd just say that it is worth it to them. If someone bumped into my fiance and said "Watch where you're going you stupid ####!", I wouldn't lose control. I would, however, choose to retaliate in some way.

It's not a lack of control, it's a lack of cowardice.

Sweet. Potentially end up in the ICU, a cell, or the wrong end of a civil suit but you're no coward.

Yeah, and I can't believe "crap" isn't filtered here either. Seriously, after hearing the audio, where did "Go back to Africa" come from?

What would you do?

I'm no tough guy; I avoid confrontation when I can. However, do you doubt that the person in the above scenario deserves to be punched in the face? Even if I choose to retaliate in a non-physical manner, I'm not going to simply scurry along.

IIRC, FoxSports OK had the quote as "go back to _____". Someone picked up on it and relayed it as "go back to A____" to which FS OK said, "No, we didn't say that or mean that." Unfortunately, it was too late.

Honestly I can't tell you what I would do and, yes, that person does deserve to be punched in the face. I would hope that I would recognize that confronting that person physically could put me and, consequently, my wife and family in a bad place and turn the other cheek. I have witnessed enough instances where the 'heckler' is baiting the passerby into a physical altercation. People who pull this crap more often than not get it back in spades.

Sure. Each situation is different, and needs to be sized up accordingly.

I guesss my response was born out my annoyance with this idea that when confronted we're supposed to sweep our moral sentiments under the rug, do some type of utilitarian calculus, and then move along. As I've gotten older I've realized that there is something to be said for staying in tune with your moral sentiments and standing up for yourself (or your loved ones) when you feel that they've been violated.

We know what this racist pig said yet?
Yeah, he lied about what Orr yelled at him.
Do we know this? The only report of what Smart said is a broadcast crew overhearing him talk to the coaches. With the noise and the fact they weren't in the conversation I'm not sure it's a fact that Smart said that. Also do we know what Orr said after they went face to face? The video only has his initial comment when Smart went to the ground. Nothing beyond that. Smart snaps his head around a lot later than when that comment was made.

So it's ok to physically attack someone if they make fun of you, but only if it is racially motivated and really hurts your feelings? Sorry, I don't care what the old troll said, physical violence is never justified for a verbal insult.
Disagree. If you cross the line you know you're risking a punch in the mouth. That's how fights almost always start. May not be justified but it's reality.
so the next time a black guy calls me a cracka it's cool if I coldcock him?
Next time? How often does this happen to you?
I was going to ask the same question. Literally never heard a black person call anyone a 'cracka'. other than on TV
I'd burst out laughing if some one called me a cracker. Is there any less insulting racial insult?

I dont recall being called "cracka" i have had "white boy" flung at me on quite a few occassions and i will say im not a fan of that one just as i am sure the people flinging that term around wouldnt appreciate if i said "hey black boy" to them. Hypocrisy at its finest i always thought...

I've had that happen as well, but in more of a good natured way. Me and two white friends were playing basketball against three black guys in a park in Jersey City (racially mixed city). Everytime I scored against the guy guarding me he'd say "nice shot, Hoboken boy" (a mostly white/yuppie city that borders on JC). Didn't piss me off - I just said "I live right there" and pointed to my apartment building across the street from the park.
