He's excited to play in the new Phillips 3-4 scheme "This is what I was used to, and this is getting back to what made me successful,"

Spears should see his numbers improve, the question is how much. While he doesn't have the consistent motor of a Luis Castillo, he is athletic . It will interesting to see how productive he will be in the 290 range and in a 3-4 scheme he is more comfortable with.

This board has been advocating watching this situation closely since Phillips was hired. Either Spears or Canty may end up with IDP value.

Something about Spears' comments bug me, though. Just sounds like he's using the scheme as an excuse. He hasn't been very good and it wasn't all the fault of the scheme.

Jay Ratliff and Jason Hatcher are also very good 3-4 DEs. I actually think Hatcher will eventually emerge as the best of that group. Either way, because the boys are very good 4 deep at the position (and they also let Kenyon Coleman walk, who should start for the Jets), I expect the rotation to keep any of these guys from having top end value for a 3-4 DE.

You should be even more unhappy since the Bengals took Frostee (love the name) Rucker the pick before Hatcher went. Imagine a rotation of Hatcher on 1st/2nd and Geathers in passing situations, with Hatcher moving inside.

It's possible. I dont even have him in my top 60 DL, but im the outlier, others have him in the 40-60 range.

This should be about right for him Bloom. He just doesn't impress me at all. beleive its time to cut bait.

Canty has been the camp story. He's filled out is overpowering everyone and has really taken to the new system. Hatcher was almost keeping pace and clearly outplaying Spears before pulling his hammy. The starters will be Spears and Canty. Canty may have some value and merits monitoring. Hatcher also once he gets into the rotation. Spears not so much.

I've never bothered to rank 50-60 DLs, but I'd have Spears behind at least two on every team... 65.
