Polish Olympian auctions silver medal for infant's heart surgery, but winning bidder won't accept it
Cliffs Notes Version:
- Polish Olympian Maria Andrejczyk battled back from cancer to win a Silver Medal in the javelin in Tokyo a few weeks ago.
- She started an on-line fundraising page to raise $385,000 for an 8-month-old boy to have life saving heart surgery.
- When that goal wasn't met, she put her Silver Medal up for auction to get the rest of the money to help save the boy.
- Żabka Polska won the auction with a bid of $125,000 . . . but insisted Andrejczyk keep her medal and just donated the money instead.
- The boy is scheduled to have the surgery at Stanford University (fingers crossed).
Who knew that there are people still out there that care about other people besides themselves?
