Marion Barber passed away (1 Viewer)

Former Dallas Cowboys running back Marion Barber was found dead in apartment by Frisco police on Wednesday, per multiple sources. Cause of his death is unknown. A Frisco police spokesperson said: “Officers are currently out on a welfare concern, but we are unable to provide any further information at this time.”

This dude is my age and I absolutely loved watching his punishing style of play.  The potential longevity of his career fell victim to his hard-nosed running but definitely one of my favorite Cowboys.

RIP Barbarian

Is it just me or has this off season just been brutal?

Man, I use football as an escape.  My heart goes out to his loved ones.

RIP Barbarian.  I just heard a friend from a long time ago has died and cannot get his image of 1980 out of my head the last few days.  Even though I haven't seen Jon in over 40 years I am still affected.  Barber has those who loved him and are affected in a profound way.   It's a damn shame when someone that young dies.

His mental health downfall could be CTE related. If i were the next of kin, I would ask for an autopsy.
>>The Barber family will not be donating his brain to CTE research.

Additional details on the death of 38-year-old Marion Barber, former Dallas Cowboys running back, are emerging - along with news from Barber’s family regarding his wish to forgo CTE examination in his will.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that Barber was discovered by police in his apartment in Frisco underneath a running shower, and it is believed he was there for a number of days based on the decomposition level of body.

Barber struggled with mental health issues following his seven-year NFL career, prompting speculation as to whether CTE played a role in his challenges.

But the Barber family will not be donating his brain to CTE research, according to the Star-Telegram.

"He was real specific in his will that he didn’t want that," Barber Jr. said. "We are going to respect that. But in the condition his body was in, according to the examiner, that probably would have been a moot point because of the decomposition."<<

Sad.  So young.  I'd be surprised if it wasn't CTE-related, honestly, given his punishing head-first running style.

He and Maroney were quite the 1-2 punch for Minnesota's running game back in the early 2000's.  I always enjoyed watching him play.

Beat bama in the music city bowl 2004.  As a bama fan sad I was there but man they made a hell of a tandem

Imagine having those two rush for 2500/25 and still barely be .500

Sad

Heat stroke? What was going on his apartment? No AC?

‘He’s down and out bad.’ Dez Bryant voiced concern for Marion Barber a year ago

Dez Bryant voiced concern for his former teammate Marion Barber less than a year ago.

Barber, the former Dallas Cowboys running back, who was found dead in his Frisco apartment on Wednesday, had been struggling with mental health issues and legal issues in recent years.

In a post on Twitter last July, Bryant said a video montage of Barber highlights was tough for him to watch.

As I watch this video and me knowing exactly how Marion barber life is going right now today is why I built @personalcorner,” Bryant said of an NFT website he helped create. “I can’t even enjoy it because he’s down and out bad … we are just a stat and moments to most people.”

In late April, Barber made a no contest plea for a 2019 arrest in Denton County. He faced two charges of criminal mischief after damaging two vehicles on two separate occasions while running in Frisco in 2018.

One witness alleged that Barber left large dents in her vehicle after ramming into it.

He was sentenced to 12 months probation, 60 hours of community service and up to $2,000 in fines.

The cause of death has not been released.

In 2014, Barber was detained and taken for a mental health evaluation after police were called in Mansfield. He wasn’t arrested or charged at the time.

According to TMZ, Barber carried a loaded 9mm handgun into a church, which was exposed to the congregants when Barber took off his jacket. Police found Barber to be disoriented and unaware of where he was, according to a police report.

I think most people are not changing their belief that it was addiction related. It was hot then but not "hot hot" so not being hydrated much left him at risk.

It's sad regardless and I never much care for people nitpicking or breaking it down to be this or that. Normal people pass away and we bury them and wish their family well. We should do the same with famous people too.

I read yesterday that he frequently would turn the heat up in his home in order to workout in “sauna” like conditions and it is surmised that is what he did here, overheated, and died. He reportedly had no drugs or alcohol in his system.

88 doesn’t seem that hot, but if he created high humidity conditions as well, it doesn’t have to be crazy hot before it can become deadly. So if it was 88 with 85%+ humidity and he was working out hard, I could definitely see heatstroke happening.

I have neither seen nor heard a single person say that they believe it was addiction related either before or now.
