Marion Barber retires (1 Viewer)

He didn't have the career I expected, but he did outplay Maroney as I predicted.

Being a Chicago fan living in Dallas I've seen the rise and fall of MBIII. Amazing how short lived his career turned out to be thanks to his running style. Less than 4 years ago he signed a seven-year deal worth $45 million with the Cowboys and now he's out of the game. Sad to see.

I wish I could have retired before age 30.
Look at it this way, the ods are eventually he has to go back to work at substantially less money....if he has any skills. Most of these guys save little if any of their money. The first of many NFL players retired by power of The Tebow.

Surprised he didn't fumble the papers during the filing process.
C'mon, let's not pick on a few trees in spite of the overall forest.Barber was never elite, but he was a solid back in the league. Yes, career was relatively short, especially given that he was essentially an RBBC through his career (including college with Maroney) but let's not forget he was a pretty bruising power back that had a smashmouth, "hit or be hit" mentality that I love to see in backs. He was a pro-bowler, and was one of the notable talents in NFC for a few years (2006-2008). Injuries plagued him over the last few years, though even if healthy not sure he would have ever been more than a situational back as opposed to a bell cow. But I definitely respected him for his abilities on the field. Rest easy, Barbarian.

Of course the gaffes in the Broncos game tainted his season and rightfully so, but he really had a solid year. Was very effective as a goal line back which helped make up for Forte's deficiency in that area.

Guy is pretty bright (an accomplished pianist, for example) and has left even though he could collect a check for another year or so. I think he will be fine.

:goodposting:He was a lot of fun to watch when he was on top of his game.

Yeah that's so sad, I'd hate to be a 30 year old multi millionaire. Poor guy.

Loved him at the University of Minnesota and I was happy he did so well with Dallas. I love tough RBs too and he played hard.

His run against the Patriots will remain with me forever.....

Oh come on, I'm sure Barry Sanders had at least 10 that were better than that. Great effort by Barber, but that was mostly due to extremely poor tackling on the part of the Patriots. There were about four guys there who had the chance to wrap him up and simply failed.

Some players age fast, last year Barber looked like he was old and slow. Had a good run for a few years though. Loved his style.

An example of why many teams get cold feet about investing big money in the RB position...the shelf life can be short...

Yes, it was sad to see give this guy that much jack. He was so over rated.

According to my notebook, FBGs rated him a Top 5 Dynasty RB at one point. Just sayin'.
doesn't mean he was elite, could of just been a bad yr. Is RB#5 this yr in elite status? I wouldn't say that.Just dropped him after taking him at #7 in 2008. Funny when you go back and look at those old drafts.
