Last 16 games: 155 carries, 852 yards, 5.50 YPC, 6 TDs

Last 16 games with 10+ carries: 225 carries, 1,169 yards, 5.20 YPC, 9 TDs.

Doesn't turn 25 until December and the Saints didn't pick up his 5th year option for next year at $5 million, so he is an unrestricted free agent. The franchise number for an RB in 2014 was $9.5 million. He's almost a full year younger than Andre Ellington. How many guys would you rather have in dynasty right now?

It will be interesting to see what happens with Ingram. It certainly wasn't a mistake to not pick up the option. $5M would have made Ingram the 10th highest paid RB in the league. You can't pay that kind of money for a RB who offers little in the passing game, which is today's NFL. I would be shocked if he got more than $5M/year in free agency.

New Orleans is in cap hell so they almost certainly won't retain his services, unless the market bottoms out and he returns for $3-4M/year. That's very possible ... look at the RB free agent signings and extensions from the last two years. Chris Johnson, Joique Bell, Reggie Bush, Darren Sproles, Steven Jackson, Toby Gerhardt.. those are all guys that at one point in time ran as hard as Ingram and every one offers more in the passing game. Yet none of them got over $4M per year.

Almost all of them signed deals at much older than Ingram. Not sure about Bell. I think Toby is the closest.

They may have been older but some were still more useful. A 27-year old Bush coming off a solid season with Miami was a better bet on the free agent market than Ingram will be this year. Bush is very useful in the passing game and was coming off consecutive 1,000-yard rushing seasons. All that and he still only got $4M/year.

The salary cap has been raised since then, but considering Ingram has had less historical success and contributes less overall to the team, there's just no way he gets more than the $4M/year Bush received.

I am not certain I accept that premise.

balt had fairly serious cap issues when tehy gave flacco that big deal, and I don't know if they'll have that stuff cleared up enough by next year to warrant spending $$ on a rb when they have a 2nd year guy they drafted on the roster.

buffalo seems to like brown enough to invest that pick in him, and they've got fjax for another year, so a third guy for $$ seems kind of sketchy.

Re: Bills contracts.

Fred Jackson's $2.35 million salary is only guaranteed if he makes 2015 final cuts. Buffalo only owes him $100k if they release him or he retires before the season. He'll be 34 in February.

Spiller has a $2.1 million player option that he'd likely void trying to get a larger contract on the open market (possibly with Buffalo). He'll be 28 next August.

Buffalo gave up a 4th round pick for Bryce Brown He's only owed $660k in 2015 and is a free agent in 2016.

They signed Anthony Dixon to a 3 year deal, but only $750k is guaranteed, but they can get out of that contract easily if they need to.

The rest of the season should be interesting. They'll probably want to see what they have in Brown, but it's certainly not inconceivable to think they'll be in the RB market in 2015.

The youngest guy in that list was Gerhart at 27, which is a major part on why the market was cool on those guys. I realize that Rice and Mathews are not playing right now, but that doesn't mean Ingram is light years better than those two. Those two have much better track records than Ingram at this point.

Ingram is 3 years younger than Rice. Rice averaged 3.1 YPC in 2013 and Ingram is averaging 5.7 YPC in 2014. He has 1,000 fewer career carries and doesn't come with the obvious off the field issues. I think 32 of 32 teams would rather have Ingram.

Mathews is an interesting case as a solid, yet unspectacular back. Also 2 years older than Ingram. Not like Ingram hasn't had injuries, but Mathews has been injured every year as a pro, including a current knee injury. He'll be almost 28 before the start of the 2015 season and probably be looking for more money than Ingram.

If I'm a team in the market for a RB, it's gotta be Ingram > Mathews >>>>> Rice.

The problem is Payton has shown he will completely abandon the run even if Ingram is showing he can be successful. Look at last year for instance. Week 10 Ingram puts up 10-145-1. What does Payton do after that? Gives Ingram the ball 40 times..................the rest of the regular season (6 games). He did use him a little more in the playoffs and had success. The usage is anything but consistent though.

I didn't say he had better career stats than those two. I said he's a better investment, by far. Rice is getting older, looked pathetic last year, and has some...rather serious off the field blackmarks that you may have heard of.

Mathews has arguably been mis-used a bit by San Diege like Ingram. BUt he's also had injury after injury throughout his short career.3

I could be wrong, and Mathews may get a better contract than Ingram. But I doubt it.

Unless you are able to roll out Foster, Murray and Charles as your starters then as long as PT and Robinson are out I don't see how you cannot start him. He's #4 in my league in PPG.

NO has been having trouble throwing the ball down the field. Last week they finally had some success with Cooks. If Payton recognizes that Otis could be on to something. The problem is Payton has shown he will completely abandon the run even if Ingram is showing he can be successful. Look at last year for instance. Week 10 Ingram puts up 10-145-1. What does Payton do after that? Gives Ingram the ball 40 times..................the rest of the regular season (6 games). He did use him a little more in the playoffs and had success. The usage is anything but consistent though.

This is what really gives me pause before starting him this week...

Unless you are able to roll out Foster, Murray and Charles as your starters then as long as PT and Robinson are out I don't see how you cannot start him. He's #4 in my league in PPG.

Murray is one of my guys. The other is Bradshaw who's still right ahead of Ingram in my ppr league based on ppg...
