Can we stop with the crazy over reactions? First it was wow, crazy world.have to watch your back at all times, poor Sanchez, and now it is Sanchez is an alcoholic, bad person, womanizer that went after an doordash employee because he couldn't get laid.
Welcome to the internet. Where, once you’ve decided you have an opinion on any topic, you are absolutely correct and are morally obligated to defend your opinion with the most outrageous hyperbole, ever.

idk @Hot Sauce Guy do you think a "but he pepper sprayed me! I was justified in stabbing him!" would be a good self defense claim? Maybe it is but I'm not a lawyer and idk, I just feel like its a litlle crazy

I started typing this before your reply.
Not an attorney, but I’m pretty sure self defense doesn’t care about what you defend yourself with. Only that you’re the victim.

If someone chases me into my house with an axe, and I grab a gun and shoot them, it’s self-defense. I don’t think it matters that he stabbed him while defending himself.

But yeah, I could be wrong. Any legal eagles wanna weigh in?
Know very little about legal stuff but, at least in Ohio, self-defense has to be like, realistically commensurate. "He shoved me, so I shot him" wouldn't work. Not sure where pepper spray falls in that spectrum.

But there's more to it than just the pepper spray. The erratic behavior, illegally entering a motor vehicle, etc.

I think some people forget how big and strong QBs are. A quick check shows that Sanchez 6'2" and 225 lbs (his playing weight I assume). A regular person like a delivery driver trying to fend off an aggressive professional athlete that big would be extremely difficult.

Sanchez is a former professional athlete 6”2 230 vs a 69 year old man. Sounds like disparity of force which is a legitimate self defense claim.

the detail mentioned of sanchez doing wind sprints in the alley before the assault seems too weird to be made up. and authorities reviewed video footage. and dude was 69 years old.

yikes. hope sanchez gets some help.

Agreed...this story keeps getting odder...unfortunately there is no chance he stars in a Hallmark Christmas move now.
Maybe something edgier like on Lifetime

Yeah, he's a big guy. He does interviews on podcasts like Rich Eisen's and I remember a few weeks ago he said on one of them he was 6'2", 240lbs. He's bigger than most poeple I know.

Am I jerk if I say that I've honestly hated the guy since he lost two AFC Championships in a row, and then especially after the buttfumble, which actually got me out of bed to go downtown and do really bad, hard drugs?

I don't know. This doesn't surprise me. Actually, that's ********. It surprises me a lot.

Also, that Loughmiller’s place looks good. Future note to self should I ever find myself in downtown Indy.
About 20 years ago I went to Indy to watch a Colts game and the night before we lost one of our friends, only to later see him approaching us in handcuffs with the police leading him to the poky. In passing I just said, we will bail you out in the morning. He apparantly was being drunk and disordly. I know for a fact that the Indy police don't put up with drunks. He was released the next morning and was able to go to the game. That friend has since passed away. RIP Richie.

Edit: We didn't bail him out as said originally, he wsa released. Brain fart.

I went to a St. Louis Blues / Leafs game in St. Louis once. Went to one of ‘those bars.’ Really had a great time. Leave, walking down the block, we ask where’s Nick? Well he’d decided to try to walk out the place with a prized moose head that had been hanging on the wall. Big mistake.

By the way pepper spray absolutely can be considered a murder weapon and someone could absolutely be afraid for their life if it were brought out. If you've seen The Last Seduction with Linda Fiorentino you know what I mean. And I'm not trying to make light of it, but I'm just saying if alcohol induced rage with a pro athlete and a can of pepper spray is involved, and if wrestling/grappling/striking/ is involved, and if a person is more or less trapped within their vehicle (in other words they don't have the high ground), I think the case that they were afraid for their life is 100% plausible. I don't know who did what to who or didn't, obviously the whole thing is insane. But if you come at me hard with a can of pepper spray (as opposed to using it defensively to try and ward someone off) I'm going to think of The Last Seduction and if I had a knife on me I just might use it. I don't carry a knife though because I can't fight and would assume it would be used against me.

I looked it up after I posted to make sure I was being accurate - pepper spray is considered a deadly weapon, but it is context dependent.

Self defense against pepper spray (plus the context of a massive dude who’s wasted and acting erratically) would clearly constitute a defensive action.

How one defends themselves is irrelevant.

It’s ok. You’re allowed to celebrate when people you don’t like get arrested for jerk behavior.

*allegedly

Of course, he was also on cocaine. I have a suspicion Mark just wasn't drunk.
Had this exact discussion with another market vendor this morning - we were both skeptical that booze was the only thing going on here. Drunks come in many flavors, but “doing wind sprints in an alley” isn’t typically one of them unless accompanied by amphetamines of some sort.

Meth would explain pretty much all of this.

Yeah we are talking about a large strong mid 38 year old man attacking a 69 year old man. I think about my FIL who is a normal sized 5'9" 70 year old man and if someone Sanchez's size attacked him at night in an alley, I wouldn't question my FIL stabbing him at all. The difference is physicality between the 2 basically requires the older man to use a weapon. He tried pepper spray and that didn't deter Sanchez so what else can he do?

I'm actually nowhere close to celebratory. I feel bad for the older man. That strikes as something Sanchez would do. Try to beat up an old man and fail at it.

Then add to it if Sanchez pepper sprayed him- you are hurt, blinded, confused and have no idea of the other person's intentions.

I thought the guy pepper sprayed Sanchez. Are you joking?

Oh FFS.
wait my bad, I misread it. The guy pepper sprayed Sanchez but he still kept attacking. So the guy tried something using non-lethal force and it didn't work.

That’s what I thought happened and it makes a lot more sense this way. Thanks for the clarification.

Sanchez now arrested for his role in the stabbing incident. Other person has not been arrested
How’s he arrested if he was the one that was stabbed?
Charged with battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication, all misdemeanors.
More embarrassing this or the butt fumble
Butt Fumble
The original tush push.

Why would Sanchez care about where a food delivery truck is parking?
Behold the power of alcohol over logic!
I'm suggesting the other party is lying. Hopefully there is camera footage.
Why would you suggest that without any reason?

based on preliminary reports, the alleged behavior (before confirmation of video, etc.) was VERY strange. the allegations being false was a perfectly reasonable explanation.

Imagine being the 69-year-old guy driving the truck that cleans out restaurant grease traps. You pull up to a bar at night, park by the grease trap, and some drunk NFL player running sprints in an alley starts yelling at you to move your truck, and attacks you. It's not like the truck drive could move the grease trap, he had to park where he did to do his job.

The details truly are bizarre. Certainly sounds like Sanchez was black out drunk and created an insane chaotic situation. From ProFootballTalk:

Link

Via the probable cause affidavits supporting the arrest, as explained by Jade Jackson of the Indianapolis Star, the victim was a 69-year-old truck driver who had parked a work box truck at a loading dock to collect used cooking oil from a hotel kitchen.

The altercation began, via the story posted by Michaela Springer of WISHTV.com, when Sanchez told the driver that he couldn’t stop his truck where it was parked. Sanchez added that he had spoken to the manager of the hotel. The victim said he would call his own manager to figure out what was happening.

Sanchez then climbed up into the cab of the truck. He leaned over the driver’s seat, and he looked in toward the middle area between the seats.

The victim told Sanchez he wasn’t allowed inside the truck. Sanchez, who per the victim smelled of alcohol and slurred his words, “kept repeating that he had spoken to a manager, and they did not want [victim] to [replace the fryer oil].”

Security footage shows that Sanchez followed the victim as he walked around the truck and attempted to get the attention of a hotel security guard. Sanchez then blocked the victim’s effort to get inside the truck. The surveillance footage shows Sanchez shoving the victim backward.

From the quotes in the article published by the Star, Sanchez was seen throwing the victim against a wall and then to the ground.

At one point, the victim sprayed Sanchez in the face with pepper spray. From the affidavit: “The pepper spray appeared to have an effect on Mr. Sanchez for a moment, but [he] wiped his face and again advanced toward [the victim].”

The victim then became fearful that Sanchez would kill him. He reached for his knife and stabbed Sanchez “two or three times” in the chest. Sanchez reacted with a “look of shock” and left the scene.

For his part, Sanchez told police he didn’t recall what happened after grabbing for a window. He said while being interviewed in the hospital that he didn’t know who had stabbed him or where it had happened.

Scary stuff. Just out of control.
