This is pretty crazy. Mark Sanchez is in Indy to call the game this weekend and was reportedly stabbed and rushed to the hospital with severe injuries in critical condition.

Reported by TMZ

Obviously his health is the biggest concern, but gotta think that’s going to be really tough for that broadcast team announcing tomorrow’s game.

I don't know if it's true, but I read he was in a bar fight when this happened. I apologize in advance if this isn't true. You can't believe what you read on the internet a lot of times.

Sounds like he's in stable condition and not critical. That's a ray of hope.
Edit: This is confusing. One part of the article says stable condition and then critical later in the article. Which is it?

Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez was stabbed early Saturday morning in downtown Indianapolis and is currently hospitalized in stable condition, Fox Sports confirmed.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to a “disturbance in an alley" call around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, reporting one person had been stabbed and another was injured outside a pub near West Washington Street and North Senate Avenue, WTHR reports.

The suspect has been detained, the outlet says.

“Mark Sanchez was injured in Indianapolis on Saturday and is currently recovering in the hospital in stable condition,” Fox Sports said in a social media statement on Saturday afternoon. “We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their exceptional care and support. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family’s privacy during this time.”

Sanchez, 38, was promptly transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition. He was reportedly in Indianapolis for his role as a broadcaster with Fox Sports, where he was scheduled to call the upcoming Colts vs. Raiders game at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Fox News is the source reporting him in stable condition. It's unclear who reported him in critical condition.
Hope he recovers just fine.

'We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their exceptional care and support. It remains unclear what caused the violent encounter. Daily Mail has also approached the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department for more information.

Awful, hope everyone recovers. I wonder what the hell happened. Argument, robbery?
The account from the guy who stabbed Sanchez. Which I know you know does not mean it's fact.

Obviously facts need to come out and Sanchez needs to present his side too but if that’s relatively close to the truth, not good for Sanchez on all kinds of levels. I hope everyone recovers and finds peace after this.

We have no idea of the details and cannot assume this is a bad look for Sanchez. He could have been just walking down the street and someone attacked him and it led to an alley. Or he could have instigated the fight. Or at the very least equal at fault for the fight. But if I had to guess, they had an argument inside the pub and lt led to a fight in the alley. If that happened, Sanchez isn't very smart and shouldn't have gone outside to fight. He should have tried to descalate and avoid the confrontation, if in fact that is the way it went down.

Stable isn't really a medical condition, but some hospitals and doctors use it to mean that the condition isn't currently getting worse. In that context, it's possible to be both critical and stable.

Stable sounds better for sure. You would think someone that has worked in the medical field, albeit just IT, for most of my career (now retired) would have known that. I can see your point about both being true at the same time. But again, stable sounds better than critical.

Yes, was gonna say this. In my first years as a newspaper reporter, we were told that stable is not a condition. It just means they’re not getting worse. “Critical but stable” is a condition.

Sanchez now arrested for his role in the stabbing incident. Other person has not been arrested
How’s he arrested if he was the one that was stabbed?
Other guy acting in self defense?
Sounds like a likely possibility. If what I have read is true, Sanchez used awful judgement and put him and another individual at peril. When will we learn to just let our egos sit the bench. (Disclaimer: don’t have all the facts).

Hope he's ok and the other guy involved in the incident who is saying Sanchez was the instigator and he was acting in self defense.
Yeah, just read it was an altercation, not a robbery - and both of them had injuries.

Perhaps locals can confirm, but I’m guessing nothing good happens in Indy at 12:30 AM.

Charged with battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication, all misdemeanors.
More embarrassing this or the butt fumble
Butt fumble or no butt fumble, this very well could be a broadcasting career fumble.

He may have started the fight, got pepper-sprayed by the doordash driver, and kept coming after the guy, who then pulled out his knife to defend himself further against a former professional athlete in an alcohol-induced rage

ok now it’s being reported that Sanchez instigated and has been arrested.

Probably won’t be seeing him on the broadcast for a while.

I think we need to be a little more collectively mature here. I know some of us have taken a stab at the humorous side of this, and Sanchez has long been the butt of many jokes. That said, we probably should wait for all the reports to come out to see if this was a ball that the news ran with & fumbled, or if he had a few too many & decided to punch down.

It sure sounds like Sanchez did this delivery driver dirty, though.
:oldunsure:

I'm confused.

According to FOX59/CBS4, the incident began over a parking dispute involving a food delivery driver who is claiming self-defense. The outlet reported:

"The second individual involved in the incident reportedly told police he was making a food delivery when Sanchez told him to leave and that he couldn’t park in the alley. The victim claimed Sanchez became aggressive and used pepper spray. This is when the individual claimed to stab Sanchez in self-defense."

Why would Sanchez care about where a food delivery truck is parking?
