Maroney overrated fantasy RB? (1 Viewer)

Maroney has 3 points each of the last 2 weeks. I have had Maroney on my bench all year waiting to start him on KJones bye week....well here we are and I don't feel good about starting him.

Any reason to expect Maroney to return to his early season form vs. a tough Minny Defense?

Why has Maroney's role diminished?

I guess when I look at the stats I see Dillon only had 14 carries last week to go with 8 from Maroney...don't quite see how they had so little amount of carries?

It hasn't. Both he and Dillon were bottled up the past 2 weeks...Dillon happened to get his TD rund hence the difference.

Maroney's gonna be touch and go this season because Dillon is usually going to get at least as many carries and most, if not all of the goal line work. Maroney will break a few big ones but he probably won't be consistant.

He's good and he's a rookiee..but Dillion didn't get hurt yet..plus they pay Dillion alot of $$$ why bench him true! Next year is Maroney money time. :banned:

I too have Maroney (two leagues) and he has served me well...until last week. I have had few important NE dates circled on my FF calendar (9,10,15) and now I am second guessing his value. His potential is huge, but if Dillon gets hot, the Patriots may limit his touches.

I'm still confident in Maroney, but I am pondering a trade for Thomas Jones.

thoughts?

He reminds me of Shaun Alexander when he first got in the league. You know he's got the skills but its a crapshoot about the opportunities. Also, he seemed to take himself out of the last series after a good run and pointed to his hand. Did he have an injury? I haven't seen anything....

That's the thing about Maroney (and even the Pats running game for that matter)....just when you think he is unstartable...That's when the Pats get into a different type of game where the field opens and ......Then he springs a huge game on you.

He puts you to sleep for 2-3 games then boom- he goes off for 140 and 2 and you just left 25 points on your bench.

Everyone was foaming at the mouth at the sight of Dillon eventully being out of the picture but it just hasn't happened.

If you have better options you probalby can't start him this week unless you're a gambling man...but I bet he has a good game. I'm on the cycle where I start him and he gets me a 4 and I sit him and he drops a 25. I'm sitting him this week!

In redrafts, it's never a good idea to count on a rookie that will share time with a vet. Look at Norwood, White and the rest. In a 12 team redraft, if Maroney is anything more than a #4 bye week RB, you're in trouble. In a dynasty lague? I think he's pure gold.

On the x-rays, there was a Rotoworld blurb on it Sunday night. They referenced the Providence Journal, but you have to register with the PJ to see what they have to say and I'm not going to bother.

From Rotoworld -

Rookie running back Laurence Maroney was in line at the visitor's X-ray room Sunday at Ralph Wilson Stadium.

He did not appear to be injured during his game against the Bills, but one never knows with those sneaky Patriots. The value of starter Corey Dillon would drastically increase if Maroney were hurt.

Maybe he just saw the x-ray technician and thought she was cute? Who knows...

As far as overrating Maroney is concerned, I think that would only be true of people whose expectations weren't reasonable. He'll be huge for dynasty, but not special in redraft. As a dynasty owner, I am actually pleased I've gotten so much out of him this year. I drafted him knowing Dillon was still going to be the main man this year and that eventually there would be a split of carries. I'm surprised the split came so soon. As for the down games, don't we expect some stinkers from every player, regardless of position or age? They all have them. It's part of the fantasy game. Be happy Maroney has done what he has for you so far this year.

Dynasty=gold...yes I have him in a dynasty...picked him #2 overall

Redraft (we can keep one) league..would you keep him over Shaun Alexander or trade him for McGahee? Need some help...leaning towards trading him after this week.

I'd send that question to the ACF. There you should offer up your team makeup, record, what it takes to make the playoffs (your status and how many make it in), etc. Without any of that info, in redraft I'd probably trade him for Alexander if I could and hope Alexander returns to prior form as a scoring machine. With Dillon around, Maroney will get less than half of the goal line looks. McGahee will probably outproduce him too.

He does a lot for the Pats besides a RB remember that..read this.
