His projections are way too low. He's the only decent TE on the giants and Eli uses his TE. If Ballard can put up decent stats there is no reason to think Bennett won't break 500 yards easily, yet he's projected under 300 by almost everyone's projections.
His floor is Ballard's numbers. He's already the best blocking TE on the roster and possibly the best receiving TE. Pascoe is too inconsistent and doesn't block nearly as well. Robinson is really raw and has shown athletic ability but has only shown he's got a lot to learn in camp.Oh yeah, I got a semi thinking about that.Think about how much attention Cruz and Nicks will demand. The black unicorn will be roaming free

That's the nickname Martellus gave himself.black unicorn?
In his short time as a Giant, Martellus Bennett has compared himself to Atlas, Ghandi, a black unicorn, [the black] Vince Vaughn, [the black] Will Ferrell and Kim Kardashian

Any minds changed yet?Wrong..Flat out. When is the last time Jason Witten missed a game or series of games? When is the time he was given an opportunity?lol.... this guy has been a whole lot of nothing since entering the league.Sure he was buried behind Witten, but showed very little when given the opportunity. This is going to be HUGE for Bennett. Finally on a focussed team with a HC that will get the best from him and clearly the best TE on the team. A 6'6" giant that you can never double (no way teams double him and not Nicks/Cruz). Signs a one-year deal (e.g., will be playing ball out to earn a big payday next year).
This may be one of the best FA signings there has been!
Easily the most hyped and most under achieving TE of his generation.
The answer is Witten hasn't missed any games since Bennett was drafted. But in 2008, the Cowboys staff did play Bennett some and in that one small window of time when he was actually a real part of the offensive gameplan, the kid caught 4 tds, had just a few drops, and was averaging about 14 yards per catch.
Can you blame a 22 year old kid for looking average when he never gets a chance to play behind the cornflake kid? To be less than stellar playing on an undisciplined team that doesn't play him?
The kid is good. The Giants are disciplined and focussed and they like to feature their TEs. They took whatever a Jake Ballard and Kevin Boss was and made them relevant and now here comes a 6'6" monster with good hands, playing on a one year deal where he will be looking to prove he deserves a bigger contract next year.
Get him if you can. Its going to be a good beginning for Bennet this year and people can be the guy that got the Arian Foster or they can be the guy that spends all offseason trying to argue why it was just a fluke next year.![]()

Agree. One game doesn't change it all but, in general, the discussion in this thread seemed to fall into two extremes. Some were saying that he was lazy, wouldn't do anything, were making jokes and making comments like "Good luck with him". The other was saying they thought he would be a good fit with the Giants and would produce.Again, one game does not a season make, but I think last night we saw a guy do his job, not get penalties, run his routes and lineup where he was supposed to and made the catches that came his way for the most part. Overall, I think it was a promising debut and the giants appear 9at least in one game) like they will use him just like Ballard and Boss before him. It appears he could have a solid (PROBABLY NOT SPECTACULAR) season. I'm happy for him. I think (at least in this thread) he got dismissed pretty harshly by a lot of Cowboys fans.'Manster said:he had a good game. he had some stinkers in Dallas. he did get his chances, and pissed em away in Dallas. lets see if he can sustain it before we call this guy the next antonio gates. kinda like the ogletree thread. this guy isnt all the sudden larry fitzgerald.'Shutout said:Any minds changed yet?Wrong..Flat out. When is the last time Jason Witten missed a game or series of games? Right, because he sucked! He's a big boy. You cant blame the Cowboys on him sucking there. I watched him on the field. He was a liability. If he's finally in a place where he "gets it" good for him. I don't blame the Cowboys fans for anything. All I'm saying is that in the context of this kind of discussion, that a lot of Cowboys fans MIGHT have let bias get in the way of making a good assessment and it may have cost them a chance at picking up a productive player for their fantasy teams. It appears he's capable of closer to what some of us where saying than he is what some of the fed-up Cowboys fans were.Right, because he sucked! He's a big boy. Decent showing. He had a drop on a tough pass that he should of made though. Seems like the 4th option in the offense. I wouldn't feel comfortable starting him weekly. Solid bye week replacement though.Wasn't really impressed.![]()
I hear what you're sayin. But i'm not sure theres "bias" from Cowboys fans as much as "scouting". Look, those of us who watch whats goin on with the 'Boys from camp till seasons' end, saw Marty B. become a liability in the passing game. I'm not sure how anyone really knows that he's definately going to improve in NY. Seems like a leap of faith to me. Thats on him to change as a player. And while I recognize he had a solid first outing in NY, I wouldnt assume that he's going to do it every week just yet. He's a big athletic guy. Good blocker. jury still out as an offensive weapon. wait till he bobbles a pass and its picked off.I don't blame the Cowboys fans for anything. Yeeeeeeeea. Right.A viable fantasy option? With Hernandez gone for 6 weeks, Fred Davis out, and who knows Gates status, this guy isn't a viable fantasy option? Time to shelve the preseason judgements and move on.Martellus Bennett caught five passes for 72 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's game against the Bucs.Bennett was targeted 10 times in the passing game, and scored for the second consecutive week. He continues to be featured in the Giants' red-zone offense, but failed to capitalize early with two dropped touchdowns. Bennett will need to show more consistency to be considered a viable fantasy option. He's behind Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks for weekly targets.
Fred Davis is out?Roto really hates this guy:

ROTO guys must be Cowboys fans too..LOL..Seriously, though, I agree with you. The guy is getting his opportunities in New York and he has a great TE coach and I think this is gonna work all year.Re: the ?? on Fred Davis. There is unconfirmed word going on out here that he sustained a concussion and that is worth following up on. Also, if true, Davis was playing LATE into the game so I don't know how he got it and stayed in...soemone might have some 'splaining to do.Roto really hates this guy:

They may also be clinging to the thought that the Giants are going to be a more balanced offense. There's not much evidence for the Giants running game improving much over last year. The Giants will try to run but so far it's the same as last year where they see a lot of long 2nd and 3rd downs. Eli should end up getting near the 5K yard mark like he did last year.Diehl looks like he'll miss time with a knee sprain. Never gonna happen. Sticking with their original position is part of their schtick. Garcon's gonna be in Canton before they acknowledge he might be more than a 'WR3 with the possibility for the occasional good week' (paraphrasing).ETA: Bennett doesn't have the hands of the elite TEs, but he's a king hell blocker and has all the other size/speed physical tools so I think WYSIWYG -- a guy who's going to be relevant and put up FF points, but never make it into the elite tier on a year in, year out basis. As a TE2 or a flex play in TE favored PPR leagues? Sign me up.A viable fantasy option? Im pretty much the biggest, most knowledgeable Giants fan on this forum- let me tell you something. Bennett is in for a big year. Let me qualify that statement, Bennett is a lock for 65/775 yds 7+ Tds. Despite what, at times, look like stone hands Eli like throwing to this guy.
That TD catch he had in the 4th quarter was one of the most athletic CATCHES i've ever seen by a TE.
I have spoken. Take it to the bank.
Great shtick! The 2 games with TD catches and the red zone targets are probably more of a factor in people's minds. It's easy to get excited about a guy after his offense puts up 500 yards of passing in a game.
Still sounds like the nickname a black porn star would have.BLACK UNICORN!!!
He did drop two balls in the end-zone. There's also been times he hasn't played till the whistle is blown. On those plays he either has stopped blocking his guy or hasn't found another defender to block if his guy was knocked down.'Iwannabeacowboybaby! said:I was wrong about Bennett, he's done more so far this season than I expected. He's always been talented but underachieved, gratz to those that gave him another shot.
