Martellus Bennett - playing musical chairs with the NFL (1 Viewer)

2008 wants its schtick back. Anyone with info beyond the fact that he practiced?
multiple articles found via google indicate he looked good, he has unicorn blood, and he will play. what else do you expect to find?
I base a lot of my start/bench decisions on how well a TE does moving laterally. That and their BMI immediately following Friday practices. I'm looking for real info, not this guppy stuff you are typing.

@JennyVrentas

Martellus Bennett said he plans to call Jerry Jones today, to offer condolences on the loss of Jones' mother. #nyg

Really admirable.

Forced to start him in 2 leagues this week. You'd have to think he'll put up decent numbers vs his old team, maybe find his way back to end zone...

Any chance he loses any PT to Beckum?
Doubt it. Beckum can't block for crap so he isn't on the field much. Beckum just started practicing but hasn't been added to the 53 man roster yet. Beckum should take over Bear Pascoe's spot. Pascoe has hardly any looks at all.

I'm a Giants fan, and I can tell you, Eli needs a receiving TE to be effective. Remember in the SB when all the TE's were hurt? "Make 'em go to Pascoe." The TE for Eli will always have value. I should have realized this and drafted Bennett, instead I got him off waivers.

I feel like, as a Cruz owner, it's kind of like insurance. If Cruz doesn't get the TDs, maybe it will be Bennett. Actually last week, up until that long pass to Cruz, Bennett was ahead of Cruz in yards.

I might change my mind this week and waive him for Gresham, but right now I like what he brings to my lineup. Also, it's unlikely that Travis Beckum will get many targets this year. Bennett has secured the job.

Can't really blame you. On BBI many of the Giants fans argued that the TE wasn't an important position for the Giants. That the team doesn't use the position for much more than blocking. I argued that it is more likely that the Giants haven't had a TE that warranted more use in the passing game. Regardless, he did have that past with Dallas that clouded what his future might be.

Not since Boss anway, has there really been a receiving TE there. They had a lot of hope that Beckum could be that next guy, but he hasn't worked out so well.Still, Eli looks to the TE, and is a lot better QB when he has a TE that can catch.

Shockey was the last TE with Bennett's athletic ability. Shockey was great at times but often injured and often a malcontent. Shockey was in Gilbride's system for 1 year, so there wasn't much to go on as to how much the TE would be used.

fan fell from the stands and onto tight end Martellus Bennett

"Bennett had taken bigger hits from the Packers over the course of the game, including one in the fourth quarter that caused training staff to inspect the player for a concussion. But after the game, a fan apparently fell over the dividing line between the fans and the players onto the 6-foot-5, 265-pound Bennett. Both parties appeared to be okay, with security taking away the fan and Bennett showing no ill effects."

Heard on ESPN that Bennett actually caught the guy that fell over the railing.

ESPN Chicago considers the status of disgruntled Bears TE Martellus Bennett "unresolved."

Bennett wants more money and has yet to report for offseason activities. "The answer is not going to change much -- it is voluntary," coach John Fox said on the final day of rookie minicamp. "I prefer guys be here, but if they’re not, they’re not." The Bears will know Martellus is willing to play hardball if he doesn't report to their mandatory minicamp in June, for which Bennett can be fined if he skips.

Martellus Bennett - TE - Bears

An NFL personnel director told ESPN Bears reporter Jeff Dickerson TE Martellus Bennett's contract situation hurts his trade value.

Bennett is unhappy with the $9.985 million owed to him over the final two years of his deal, and he made that discontent known by skipping the Bears' voluntary workouts. Bennett's desire for a new contract could hurt his trade value, as any team which trades for him would also need to work out a long-term extension with the inconsistent and eccentric playmaker. With the draft already in the books, the most likely scenario is Bennett plays out 2015 under his current contract before revisiting a new deal next offseason.

Bleacher Report's Jason Cole said the Bears are "more than willing" to let TE Martellus Bennett "go the distance" with his hold out.

Owed just under $10 million over the final two years of his deal, Bennett has been absent to this point in the Bears' offseason program. Bennett is making his point clear by missing voluntary events, but he can prove he is serious about the holdout by skipping Chicago's mandatory minicamp on June 16. Bennett set career highs in receptions (90), yards (916) and touchdowns (6) last season.

Rotoworld:

ESPN Chicago believes "the most likely outcome" is that Martellus Bennett shows up to mandatory minicamp.

Bennett has been skipping voluntary workouts, but runs the risk of being fined if he doesn't attend Chicago's minicamp on June 16. Despite setting career highs last year, the Bears aren't expected to give Bennett a raise and are reportedly willing to go the distance with his hold out. With Bennett under contract for the next two years, Chicago has all the leverage. Bennett will likely be forced to play out 2015 at his $4.9 million salary.

...and show up he did

Rotoworld:

The Chicago Tribune reports Martellus Bennett will attend Bears mandatory minicamp Tuesday "barring an unforeseen twist."

Bennett protested his contract situation by skipping OTAs but wasn't willing to pay the $72,920 fine that comes from missing minicamp. Bennett led the NFL in receptions among tight ends (90) last season. He's sure to see a downtick in targets this year after the Bears added Kevin White and Eddie Royal.

Rotoworld:

Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune said Martellus Bennet showed signs of rust at Tuesday's mandatory minicamp.

Bennett was noticeably off on Tuesday and dropped a number of easy passes. This was Bennett's first practice after missing all of OTAs so the rust is understandable. Bennett had a monster season in 2014 but will cede some of his targets this year to newcomers Kevin White and Eddie Royal.

Rotoworld:

Martellus Bennett confirmed Tuesday he plans to be at Bears training camp.

Bennett skipped OTAs over dissatisfaction with his contract, but he reported to minicamp and it appears the fuss is over. Bennett explained his OTA absence by stating "every American should be trying to get a new contract." Bennett's receptions will drop with Eddie Royal and Kevin White added to Chicago's receiver corps, but "Black Unicorn" could set a career high in touchdowns. Gase is as diligent as any NFL coordinator about feeding his biggest players in the red zone. Bennett stands 6-foot-6 and 265 pounds.

Rotoworld:

ESPN's Jeff Dickerson believes this could be Martellus Bennett's final season in Chicago.
Bennett led all tight ends with 90 catches last season, but is unhappy with his contract. He's promised to report for training camp, but is headed into his age-28 season. He's due an eminently reasonable $5.085 million in 2016, but the Bears may decide to move on if they don't believe Bennett is worthy of an extension. Bennett's unique personality hasn't always endeared him to coaching staffs the way it does fans.

Bennett to the Pats for a 3rd round pick.  Mixed emotions about this one as a Bennett owner.  I guess this offense supported 2 TEs before with Hernandez, but Bennett is clearly the second gun at TE only on a handful of teams, this being one of them, and probably the only one that would make a move to acquire him.  Value up or down compared to Chicago?

They got a third? I'm stunned, had just got done reading stuff from Brad Briggs where he was saying he'd heard he was not trade able and would likely get released.

The fact they paid a third for him and they have run two TE set well in the past is good news but he's not as versatile in the receiving game as Hernandez so I think it's stock way down. Solid DE player and awesome Gronk handcuff.

Sorry...I read it wrong.  Mid round pick.
