No sweat, still surprised they got what they did.
Always boggles my mind how teams will invest high picks in WR's and TE's and you see guys like Moss go for a 4th, Holmes for a 5th, Marshall and Bennett for peanuts. Almost all of those players have or had some degree of character issues but those were all huge bargains. Well at the time to me anyway, Holmes did not work out but as a Steeler fan I was high pissed that day.

Since Buck was so upset about recycling the thread, I figured I would just recycle what I wrote four years ago. Seems even more true today than then. Well, except the whole "best te on the team" part...but still a great move for him and the patriots.

I'm curious as to who's running the ball in New England this year. Regardless, Bennett is the perfect player who can make the most of the double coverage that Gronk sees.

I can see Bennett as a high Te-2 or low end TE-1. Good landing spot. Not great, but good.

Bennett is going to be a 1b to Gronk's 1a. This is a HUGE boost for Bennett.

I think the Pats can draft a serviceable RB from in the 2nd or 3rd round that can play on 1st and 2nd down. Bennett paired with Gronk will force D's to really think how they'll cover those two big targets especially in the red zone.

I think your in a small minority that think this is good for Bennett, never mind a huge boost.
Certainly it's a good offense but the challenge is how well the player adapts to it. Plenty have failed.

I think its entirely likely Gronk's production actually goes up compared to last season when he had to stay in and block a lot, now that they have two very competent receiving and block TEs its possible his production could go up or down depending on how the offense shakes out. They aren't going to feed Gronk for the sake of feeding him.
Jules on the other hand doesn't share a role with anyone. The closest competition he has for his targets is Dion Lewis.
Jules was a WR1 last year before getting hurt, no reason to think that would change this season. NE offense is gonna be very fantasy relevant between the key pieces, and I think the split is the one I posted.

I see this is only a slight boost for Bennett. If he stayed in Chicago and stayed healthy, I don't think he'd put up the same numbers as he did in the pre-Fox system, when you figure that he'd have to compete with Jeffrey, White and Langford for targets. So it's a better system for him going to the Pats, but he'll still be clear second fiddle to Gronk in the TE and probably also behind Edelman, Lewis and maybe even Hogan in terms of targets.

Tom calls him Jules so I assume that's why that was used earlier. Also Jules>>Gronk was the ranking of targets in the system, not that Jules is better than Gronk. I'm just making assumptions here, so perhaps I'm wrong.

This seems to be going the way that the Pats do with Rbs. They probably won't draft any noticeable RB anytime remotely early and will end up going with Morris or Foster or someone they feel good about at the time.
This offense really doesn't need anything they don't have.

Consensus here seems to be this is a big boost for him, can't say I agree. If his head is in the right place I think he's a good get for the team but not so much for his fantasy value. I mean some places, like Arizona, could have been worse but to me this is easily and clearly a downgrade from what he's been in Chicago.
He's had one big year and he was the #1 targeted TE that season and his next best season he was a TE10. He was ok last season in per game production but he grumbled about his role and he was the #8 TE in targets per game. I don't think he'll see that kind of workload this year.
Hernandez and Gronk are/where unique talents. I saw the Sudfeld hype, some Tim Wright hype and a little hype for some others but this is not a plug and play situation in terms of thinking just decent TE is going to come in and post big numbers.
I see a 50/500/6-8TD type season for him, a TE2. I will say in TE premium leagues he might arguably be the most valuable handcuff in fantasy football and that alone gives him big value.
But I'd also put the chances of him not making it through the season with NE around 20-30%. Since they allowed his agent to seek a trade I would assume NE or Bill directly made sure he signed off on this move so I'm sure starting off he's coming in with the right intentions. But he seems like a really poor fit for the Patriot way when you hear things like he loafs in practice, complains about his role, and on a team that likes to try and control what their players say to media he seems like a hard guy to muzzle. I could see this thing blowing up, especially if he's not happy with his role.

Bennett is a greater physical talent than Hernandez was. They basically have the same measurables in terms of speed and explosiveness, but Bennett is 5 inches taller and a much better blocker.
I think he's been one of the most underrated TEs in the league. He basically sat for the first 4 years of his career behind Jason Witten. Think it's pretty clear he meant the average of both floors and he would take the over. It read just fine, Idk you guys are confused here.
I think it's realistic he could finish with 70-80 catches, 700-900 yards and 7-12 TDs. Really depends on how he settles in to the offense.
But I don't think he will be a bust like Scott Chandler ended up being which is easily attributable to his stone hands, a quality Bennett doesn't have.
