Marvel Cinematic Universe - Fantastic Four - No Homework Required (5 Viewers)

Will the netflix marvel shows end up on Disney ?

I am watching Jessica Jones and wondering how thats going to fly on Disney.

Spider-Man NWH was entertaining.  My two kids that went with me loved it.

I am not sure I will enjoy the multiverse stuff.  On the fence right now.
We saw Spider-Man NWH yesterday and just thought it was "meh".  The humor seems to be geared more towards 14 year olds than adults.  I would say I liked both Venoms more (much funnier, better action, etc.).  Thor Ragnarok is still the best Marvel movie, imo.

I will say though that them bringing back the three of them was pretty cool.

:hifive:

Looks like I’m the only one on this board who liked Iron Fist. I knew nothing about him from the comics so maybe that is why.
I thought Coleen Wing was a bad ### and the actor who played her was great.

In fact, forget the superheroes. Give me A Coleen, Misty Knight and Claire Temple show and I’ll be happy

Not sure I'd go that far, very tough comparisons.  Let's make a list! I do recognize I suffer from recency bias so I will try to tone that down. Just doing Netflix and D+.  I really liked Agents of Shield and Agent Carter but didn't watch enough of some of the other shows to include (Runaways, etc).

  • WandaVision
  • Loki
  • Daredevil 1
  • JJ 1
  • Daredevil 3
  • Hawkeye
  • Punisher 1
  • Punisher 2
  • Luke Cage 1
  • Daredevil 2
  • What If
  • Falcon and the Winter Soldier
  • Defenders
  • JJ2
  • JJ3
  • Luke Cage 2
  • Iron Fist
To me the only real absolute clunker was Iron Fist.  If Luke Cage could have kept the first half villain for the whole first season (or both seasons) it could have rated a lot better.  Ali was great in that role.
Runaways, Cloak and Dagger, Inhumans all are down at the bottom.  Agents of Shield in the top half for most of its run.  Agent Carter middle tier.

All this.

I think Loki has finally surpassed daredevil as my favorite Marvel show. Next week will hopefully lock that in.

They're either setting up Kang or "superior" Loki as the main antagonist. Hopefully Kang.
My youngest and I just finally got around to watching Loki and we loved it.  I’m not a comic book guy so I just go with it.  All the multiverse stuff, time travel and inconsistency doesn’t really phase me as I’m just along for the ride.  And I thought Loki was fantastic from an entertainment value.  We had no idea there would be a season 2 but excited for it.

She was easily the high point of the series 👍

Saw Spiderman. Pretty good action movie. Felt it had about 45 minutes that was not needed at all. I'd give it a 7/10 overall.

Had some unexpected free time so I went and saw Spiderman again. Not sure why but on the second viewing it hit me on the emotional level more than the first viewing.

Can we talk about the watch yet or is that too spoilery?  I will bury in tags in case any one cares.

For those unaware, the significance of the watch is that not only was Hawkeye's wife a shield agent but that she may have been the Mockingbird, which slightly conflicts with the TV show Agents of Shield
Agent 19 is Mockingbird. Agents of Shield is not MCU cannon so no conflict exists.

Kingpin always kind of sucked as a villain in the comics.  Most of Spidey's foes were kinda stupid except Green Goblin and Hobgoblin.  Doc Oc was eh.
Kingpin is a better DD villain than a Spidey villain IMO. For me Spidey's best villain is Kraven. Man they have to bring him into the MCU.

It seems Kingpin has gained more power in the Hawkeye series than he had in Daredevil (can't remember which would be more accurate per the comics).

He seemed to be just a regular human (albeit a big and strong one) in DD, but in Hawkeye he was surviving being hit by cars and exploding arrows.

I'd have to re-watch DD but I think he took significant beatings with deadly weapons similar to what happened in Hawkeye.

Remember in Daredevil, Kingpin had his suits lined with protective materials. Which I think will be the reason he doesn't die from Maya's unseen gunshot. Or the gunshot was from someone else shooting Maya.

  • Thanks

He fought DD and the Punisher who were both just humans with no  super powers and did not dominate them. Don't remember if he took massive blows from cars or weapons but admittedly it's been years since I've seen it.

Pretty sure he took on DD when DD was with weapons for sure, and he did dominate DD on more than one occasion IIRC. I actually liked that they showed him more to his comic roots in Hawkeye. Don't forget, the Netflix shows aren't canon so what happened in them is not the basis for their MCU characters.

I saw Spider man NWH last night and maybe my expectations were too high. I thought that it was going to be one of the best marvel movies to date. Instead it was an average to above average marvel movie.

I think i could have waited until it was released for rental.

I hope doctor strange is not a let down now.

if there was a fight between hawkeye and batman then i bet hawkeye would wipe the floor with batman like batman was a piece of toilet paper because for the most part batman is a pile of steaming crap and that is the swc batman report take that to the bank brohans

If I recall correctly, the comics have a storyline where Maya shot Kingpin - not sure if this is what will be the basis of the Echo series, but in the comics the gunshot did not kill him, but it blinded him.

Ah, I do not have the comics background, so you know more than I do. I could see that storyline (no pun intended)

To be honest, I don't have the comics background either, I picked up on that in either an article or youtube recap of the series with thoughts on where the characters could go from there.

Hawkeye wouldn't know what hit him.

Not the Bruce Timm Batman.  The crappy movie thing with Christian Bale, no disagreement.

Saw NWH last night, and I’m not going to over think this.  That was the most enjoyable, fun movie I’ve seen in a loooong time.   Really got back to the roots of the early comics to me as to what defines Peter Parker and Spider-Man.

Agree with both of you.   NWH was fine but I guess I was expecting to blown away.  I enjoyed the first two installments much more.

Hawkeye was great and I wasn't expecting much.

First Boba Fett was extremely disappointing.  The guy playing Boba is a terrible actor.  :(

I enjoyed NWH but wasn’t blown away, either. Was pretty contrived even by superhero movie standards. That said, I don’t watch these things to better understand my place in the universe or anything, so it had more than enough to keep me entertained.

The Eternals is a steaming pile. Paper-thin characters and a horribly contrived plot. Felt like a DC movie, to me.
Got halfway through Eternals, and man, this is a slog. I'll finish it because I watch every Marvel movie, but this one isn't doing anything for me. Thought it would be cool to have Rob Stark and Jon Snow reunited but nothing.

I'm probably too late, but save yourself the time and don't watch the rest. You won't be missing anything.

i thought eternals was ok not horrible not my favorite but ok i mean some of the guys were ok and it sets up to bring in some big time power brokers so that it cool i think that it would be cool if eternals made the angerlina homewrecker jolie character fly into the sun and disappear forever never to return to comics unless someone else plays her and if the one called sirci killed batman dead take that to the bank brohans

I waited for Eternals to come to Disney+.  I think it might be the first Marvel movie I didn’t see in theaters.  Prob watch it Saturday with the kids.  Have low expectations.

So I watched eternals last night. Like others, I thought it was OK. I think the big miss was including every eternal off the bat. It didn’t allow me to have one I really was rooting for. Had they scaled the first movie to 3-4 of them I think it would have resonated more.
And what is the deal with every Marvel baddie this days just wanting to end the existence of people. They can’t come up with anything different.
Had no idea who the Eternals were and no idea that Thanos had a brother. I’m not that into the comic side of things. All in all, decent enough on a Thursday night before watching a west coast Rangers game.

I finally watched Eternals on Disney+ yesterday as well.

If they didn't mention Thanos, etc. in dialogue you would never know it was a Marvel movie.  I liked the history of stuff (Babylon, Gilgamesh, Ikarus), but the whole thing was jumbled and clunky...never seemed to flow and the characters were too rushed and made little sense to me.

My biggest gripes were:  ***** spoilers below!! ******

How does Sprite stab Sersi to kill her but then at the end all is good and they are friends again?  And why were the Eternals created to look and act just like humans despite supposedly being used on different planets all the time?  Like they have emotions and desire families and sex (and one was apparently made a gay man) and Sprite also behaves like a child despite being thousands of years old?  They are beings manufactured for a specific reason for interstellar work and live for thousands of years and yet they act simply like humans.  Also the name "Eternals" is pretty misleading as they seem to get killed pretty frequently throughout the movie.

I'm sure this has been beaten to death already here and elsewhere, but my issue with Marvel - being a non-comic book guy - has always been that it is a franchise where the heroes include guys like Hawkeye and Falcon - basically just really fit dudes with some nifty toys, and also literal gods like Thor and guys like Hulk and Strange and Wanda with massive other-worldly powers. Villains that range from a Bond-style local crime boss to ten-thousand year old galactic aliens who destroy entire planets. Accepting that, its hard when the two meet (Endgame.) Even though I did not like the Hawkeye or Falcon series, I'm happy they seem to be keeping the galactic superheroes and villains separate from the normies now.  Even Spiderman - as awesome as he is - seemed way out of place to me when he went into outer space and fought Thanos and his henchmen. So I can fully suspend belief and enjoy the movies about Spiderman and Thanos, but it gets hard for me when Black Widow is using her martial arts kicks to go toe-to-toe with a blue chick using a power orb.

Netflix has the rights and there is no reason for them to give them up. I don't really see reason for Disney to make it worth Netflix to get them.

I watched The Eternals tonight.

Easily the least of all MCU offerings. The writing was weak and the directing was atrocious. I think the casting was hit and miss that overall missed chemistry. The most likable characters were the most minor (Karun, the valet and Dane Whitman... soon to be Black Knight). Salma Hayek and Angelina Jolie seemed to be in on easy paydays to me. I like Lauren Ridloff but having one of the  Eternals deaf was odd for the storyline and even more so when we learned that they were not 'people' but created by the Celestial. The only seeming explanation is being woke and I could do without the other woke parts too.

The kids totally checked out on the movie. I watched because I am so invested in MCU and Marvel from my childhood to now. I normally watch everything multiple times but I can't see putting this one again.

Eternals, we'll put their name to the test (In my best Gerard Butler impersonation.... and yes, I know the line is Immortal but I kept thinking that each time one died)
