Matt Flynn if Rodgers were to go down with an injury (1 Viewer)

After seeing all the week one injuries I was reminded how quick your roster can blow up. We always discuss RB handcuffs but never QB handcuffs. I would think the Packers being loaded at receiver and now missing Grant could be one of the few situations to handcuff a QB "if" Flynn is good enough to use all the weapons.

I already picked Flynn up on waivers, so it's not a should I pick him up deal.

Where do you think Flynn would rank in redraft at QB if Rodgers were to go down with an injury?

I think he'd be a low-end QB2 with huge upside. If Rodgers went down, he'd be the top waiver pick that week for sure.

It's not like Green Bay has the personnel to just switch to a running team. The team would still pass minimum 55% of the time & has lots of weapons. He'd most likely start out slow, but I'm thinking Flynn would be more valuable than a Vince Young or McNabb type just based on weapons alone. I think we could see another Matt Cassell 2008 scenario.

I would put him around QB20-QB25. They still have a lot of weapons on offense and a great defense but he has not looked special in any way when I have seen him play in the preseason the last couple of years.

Oof. I'm not sure if anyone in dynasty leagues that has hopes for Flynn saw him play yesterday but I think you may have had a glimpse of what sort of value he would have. He has very litle upside in my opinion. He just looks to have very limited physical tools from what I can see. He seems to have very poor arm strength and I just can't see him as ever being very valuable.

It will be interesting to see if Rodgers is cleared to play after his 2nd concussion of the year but as a Packer fan I am very concerned if we have to rely on Flynn at all.

Poor arm strength, mediocre decision making, average-at-best accuracy. I wasn't impressed at all, and that was against a Detroit defense that hasn't exactly lit it up.

I dont have backup. But thought I read somewhere that a few think Flynn could be a number 1 on a few teams. NFLwise that is. Also that detroit defense pretty much owned that packer offense in the first half yesterday as well. With rodgers in. I'm not a lion fan. But they didn't give that offense a day off.

Other than shutting down Rodgers for the whole first half.

I was watching the game and when Flynn came in and threw his first pass I was thinking WTF did that pass slip out of his hand? Nope. He lofts those passes down field and has no zip. The one thing he has going is the organization seems to have confidence in him or lack of confidence in the run game because they did let him go out and run the offense. I think they really like him and maybe his intangibles? I think from what I have seen his physical abilities are very limited.

I wanted to bump this thread back up as I need to cut Flynn some slack. I only watched the first half last night as I had to work early today but he looked remarkably better in the first half against New England. His passes seemed to have much more zip and the kid was playing pretty well. Maybe he can be a serviceable QB?
