Matt Flynn (1 Viewer)

Green Bay will at the minimum get a 3rd round compensatory pick. Flynn has put in the work and Thompson is loyal to his players. I wouldn't be surprised to see them let him walk as an UFA. However they may prefer him going to an AFC team.

It will definitely be interesting to see what happens and I don't see any way in which the Packers lose.

Whoever will want Flynn will want him ASAP in order to get him learning the system. Finley is much more important as well.

Driver is not retiring. Not sure where that came from. He has stated he wants to play out his contract and has accepted his role admirably.

It's not a given that he'll go to a bad team. Miami and Seattle both have nice offensive pieces in place. Jacksonville has a good running back and solid tight end. Cleveland and Washington are "meh" on offensive talents but those are really the only two landing spots I see that are not great. Even a team like Baltimore or NYJ or SF would be easy to get excited about.

Can't find the quote, (it may have been radio) but he's strongly hinted that this season is his last.

Where is the talk of trading picks for Flynn coming from? He is a UFA after the year. Yes, he could get "tagged" but the Packers also need to address Finley and Wells.
Fairly simple really.Franchise Flynn. Get pick(s) for him -- worst case is 2nd+. Either sign Finley long term (coming off down year) or draft his replacement (who they'll pay peanuts)This team already won a Super Bowl w/o Finley. And he was far less than impressive this year.GB's built through the draft and franchising Flynn will continue with that. There's zero risk franchising Flynn (that's what I'm most confused about.....someone will trade & sign him long term). Kolb did a nice Trent Edwards impersonation in 2010 & even with no offseason, landed a huge contract (and great return for Philly)
Agree with all of this.
Me too. Finley was a lollygagger in 2011. Maybe he will pick it up in the playoffs, but I do not see him running routes hard and he drops too many passes. They have already drafted DJ Williams as Finley contract fallout insurance. Finley has made it clear he wants to be paid like a top WR, not a TE, and will take that stance to an arbitrator if franchise tagged.Let Finley walk.

If he ends up in Miami or Seattle, where would you rank him amongst QBs for 2012? Top 10?

Heading into the season I'd have him at around 20. Mainly because I tend to be risk-averse. I'd have him right around Jay Cutler, Josh Freeman, guys like that. I may miss the boat but no way I take him before Romo or Rivers.

In Miami and with Jeff fisher as coach (if that came to be), I would like him a lot. To say top 10 is probably a reach because there are some serious slingers out there right now but I think you could throw him in and say "I expect him to produce as well as eli Manning, Matt Ryan, Ryan Fitzpatrick". Of course Eli WAS a top 10 this year, but most years he is right in that sneaky good top 12-15 range. With those expectations, I don't think you are surprised or disappointed if he is a top 15 guy or if he happened to end up as the #8 overall.

While Flynn might not be ELITE -had a high end scout tell me he was the same QB as @ArronRodgers, with a little less arm strength. #Redskins

Personnel source told me Flynn's release point was slightly adjusted, so he has better arm strength these days.

IMO, he may give it up...but he still has some left to give. The problem for him, his role may continue to be reduced...and the Packers really like Gurley on their practice squad and will want to keep him on the active roster next year IMO.

If he decides to keep playing I wonder if they'll work a pay cut. $2.6 mil is pretty big bucks for what boils down to the 5th reciever by production, probably down to 6th next year.
