I thought he showed a great sense of humor. I chuckled quite a bit while reading that piece.Maybe it's just me, but I thought he sounded like a whiny #####.
I agree he has the look of a winner. I think Arizona could be poised to finally turn it around. You have two of the best WRs in the league, a great RB, a young talented QB and a coaching staff coming in that knows how to win. If it doesn't happen now, I will think your team is simply cursed. All I know is, I live in AZ and I am glad he didn't go his junior year. I can't say I wouldn't be happy with VY, but the guy has the look of a winner. Something this team has lacked forever!
Bri, was it Fisher or the owner? Or was the story B.S?Interesting to hear that Fisher decided on VY over him with a coin flip
I think Fisher IIRC, I'll grab the mag and report back in a fewBri, was it Fisher or the owner? Or was the story B.S?Interesting to hear that Fisher decided on VY over him with a coin flip
Actually, I seem to remember that Fisher didn't want Young *OR* Leinart. I hear he wanted Cutler, Chow wanted Leinart, and Reese/Adams both wanted Vince Young.Interesting to hear that Fisher decided on VY over him with a coin flip
Well it's hard to tellThe Q before Fisher is teasing Matt saying we were told if we waited til the 2nd we could just grab ya then.Next Q is a story how his grandfather passed away and left him a $20 gold coin that he always had with him on draft day and it brought them alot of luck in drafts. Vince was tails, Matt was heads, it came up tails.Could be teasing, could be true storyI think Fisher IIRC, I'll grab the mag and report back in a fewBri, was it Fisher or the owner? we're talking about a paragraph from the Leinart article right in front of me, so you're saying Fisher is wrong about himself? I'm missing something hereActually, I seem to remember that Fisher didn't want Young *OR* Leinart. It's not just you. If I'm the Cards that's not the kind of talk I want to hear from the leader of my team. Maybe the other teams passed on him because they knew he'd be a whiney ##### once he didn't go number 1.The best players in these situations shut up and put up, rewarding the team that took a chance on them while punishing those who didn't.Maybe it's just me, but I thought he sounded like a whiny #####.

I may be better off in Arizona? You just don't say that. You have a belief in yourself and your team and you know that you will be better off there if you're a good enough QB, just like Peyton Manning has been since he moved in to take over a poor team in a not-so-huge market. There's no denying the kid has talent. But he's too Hollywood IMO.Don't get me wrong. I've got a great deal. In the long run, I may be better off in Arizona. My kid lives a short flight away in LA. The Cardinals have a ton of talent on offense. But I clicked in my interview with the Jets, loved New York and would've filled a hole there.
But why even do that? It's a loser mentality. Why not just take it like a man and get the hell over it? When guys break up with chicks, some stick around questioning why, trying to get back with her and eventually getting themselves nowhere. Others forget about what happened, focus on what's ahead and benefit largely. That is a winners attitude.Leinart's talent has allowed him to be in the privileged position of leading an NFL football team. His attitude going forward will become a big part in determining how well he does with said team.Winners don't question why.I missed where you mentioned that he was at the draft interviewing coaches and asked about his own draft experience...hence the reason why he mentioned possibly going to other teams.
Because he wanted to for the magazineBut why even do that?I missed where you mentioned that he was at the draft interviewing coaches and asked about his own draft experience...hence the reason why he mentioned possibly going to other teams.
His job right now is to throw a football. If he gets that part right he won't have to worry about another career after his current one finishes. Now continue to bang your head against a wall, while remaining frustrated at your inability to persuade me into believing your opinion is correct. I'm heading out to take the GF to dinner, as talking to a woman would make more sense right nowBecause he wanted to for the magazineBut why even do that?I missed where you mentioned that he was at the draft interviewing coaches and asked about his own draft experience...hence the reason why he mentioned possibly going to other teams.![]()
Even if that really happened (I'm not sure if that's a true story or if Leinart was making up the details of the interview sfor comedy purposes), then do you honestly believe Fisher was being serious? Do you really think Fisher drafts via coin flip? Odds are far better that he was simply being flip, himself.Bri said:we're talking about a paragraph from the Leinart article right in front of me, so you're saying Fisher is wrong about himself? ML: Great. I'm Matt Leinart here at the annual owners meetings in Phoenix, Ariz., with Lane Kiffin, new head coach of the Oakland Raiders.LK: Who are you talking to?
But he was working out that morning. Hard. His job right now is to throw a football. If he gets that part right he won't have to worry about another career after his current one finishes.
Have you seen the Titans drafts? just kidding, I don't know either if it was serious or not.Even if that really happened (I'm not sure if that's a true story or if Leinart was making up the details of the interview sfor comedy purposes), then do you honestly believe Fisher was being serious? This is what I meant by some people are taking this article too seriously. Matt wrote it to be funny and entertaining, not to be an investigative report to be filed away with documents on OJ.IMO this is just looking for a problem where one doesn't exist.Sorry, but he is definitely not "just joking around" or being "light-hearted". I count 16 "whiny" statements in that short article. 1. DON'T GO TO NEW YORKWhen players asked me for draft advice this year, that was it. Stay home. Be with friends and family. Enjoy draft day. But if you're not guaranteed the top overall pick, do not go to New York.2. I've thought about the draft process a lot over the past year. It's something that's still deep in my heart.3. I wouldn't dare ask why I got shafted.4. They needed QBs. They needed me. 5. Okay. I'm warmed up. Coach, if you had been in Oakland last year, would you have drafted me?6. Don't get me wrong. I've got a great deal. In the long run, I may be better off in Arizona. My kid lives a short flight away in LA. The Cardinals have a ton of talent on offense. But I clicked in my interview with the Jets, loved New York and would've filled a hole there.7. ML: After the meeting? I mean, New York is one of the two teams that's haunted me. I had a great visit. Thought we really got along. Loved New York.8. ML: I almost fell that far. I sat in that draft room for about three-and-a-half hours. It was miserable.9. So if I come out as a junior -- after winning the Heisman and the national title -- I'm a surefire No. 1 overall pick. I go to the Niners instead of Alex Smith.10. That's got to be worth the $10M in guaranteed money I lost, right?11. But seriously, you were with the Steelers two years ago. Forget about that whole Super Bowl. If I had come out my junior year, would you have traded up?12. I know some teams thought I was too Hollywood. But the Titans knew better. Jeff Fisher is an SC guy. Before my senior season, he even hired my offensive coordinator, Norm Chow. That should have made me a lock to go third overall. And they used the pick to take Vince Young. That still hurts.13. ML: Last April, I was in New York. My bags were packed, I'm thinking, I'm going to the Titans, No. 3. My mom was excited, told all her friends. My family was excited to reunite with a couple of Trojans. I thought us USC guys stuck together. How much was Norm lobbying for me?14. JF: Are you happy now? ML: I'm excited.15. Coach, seriously. Can you tell me what happened? Please.16. ML: So my career was decided on a coin toss?
Agreed. Seemed to me the entire article was done tongue-in-cheek, poking fun at himself, with each of the coaches who were interviewed playing along (i.e., Fisher coin flip, etc.).I thought the article was funny. You guys need to lighten up.
Man, if the Titans really DID draft via coinflip, then that must be one lucky coin, because the Titans have historically been phenomenal drafters. They need to start managing their salary cap via coinflip now, so they can keep some of that talent in town.Have you seen the Titans drafts? just kidding, I don't know either if it was serious or not.Even if that really happened (I'm not sure if that's a true story or if Leinart was making up the details of the interview sfor comedy purposes), then do you honestly believe Fisher was being serious? Couple of things. I'd be interested to know how much of that Leinart wrote. It's pretty funny and not serious at all.I don't know for a fact but I'd say little to no chance of Fisher's coin flip not being a joke.J
