Matt Leinart Released. (1 Viewer)

Pete Carroll and the Seahawks just made the no-brainer move and claimed off waivers:

Zak Robinson.
Lots of talk that he'll be sent to the PS and the Leinart rumors can continue. However, I just don't see it (leinart). PC has repeatedly shown that being a Trojan isn't a free pass in Seattle (Mays, LoJack, White) and there's simply no reason after the Whitehurst trade for him to be interested at all in another backup with no upside to be behind an aging fan favorite.
:wall: Seattle would look kind of silly if New England decided to re-claim him off waviers.
Why? The Pats would have to sign him to their 53 man roster if they take him. Seems to me that would make the Pats look silly, not Seattle.

Why? Zak would have to make the 53 man roster, and every team can lose a PS guy to someone that wants to activate him. Zak choosing Seattle's PS over the Pats' makes sense (assuming Pats wanted him on PS).
To demote a player to the practice squad, a team must put him on waivers, then hope that he clears waivers, and then sign him to a practice-squad contract. If Seattle wanted to put him directly on the practice squad they would have to wait until he cleared waivers and then convince Zac that Seattle practice squad was a better place to be (ie better contract, better chance of playing time, etc). But Seattle claimed him and put him on the 53 man roster so they will have to cut him and send him to the wavier wire process again before they could get him on the practice squad.Minnesota lost Thigpen to KC and Dallas lost Matt Moore to Carolina because they put them on waivers, trying to get them to the practice squad. Both Minnesota and Dallas were high on those players. Thigpen and Moore were never cut by KC and Carolina respectively because they knew that they could easily be reclaimed by their original teams.

All I saying is Seattle taking a chance moving him to the PS.

Imagine for a moment the epic level of awfulness Leinart achieved in order to be CUT in favor of Derek Anderson and Max Hall.

:goodposting:

Personally, I always thought coach whiz was an idiot for waiving Leinart in preseason without giving him a full shot. and also, playing Chris Wells in a meaningless final preseason game that resulted him a knee injury.
