Matt Ryan (1 Viewer)

Wow! I'm watching the replay on NFL Network right now and color me impressed with this kid. He looks verys smooth for his first action. Nice arm and good pocket awareness. Seems to find the open guy pretty well. He is surrounded by some nice young talent as well.

I think I like this kid's shot to be a very solid QB for years to come. I'll never understand why people like to take Kevin Smith, Forte, Charles, or even Chris Johnson over Ryan in these rookie drafts.

This might just be the time to invest in the ATL offense. A year or two from now, this could be a top notch unit.

He did look awesome, and Roddy White had a really nice touchdown reception from a laser by Matt. The offensive line looked really improved.

From the replays I saw, it looked like he had a little trouble with accuracy with his passes, but they were completions so I guess I can't fault him that much.

I won't say "great" but he did look very good although white bailed him out a couple of times. Still it looks like atlanta made the right call in drafting him

I may have jumped the gun early, but do you think he will be starting this year?? I dropped deion branch (who i picked up as a free agent last week) to pick up ryan. 16 man league

I expect redman to start the season but as somepoint ryan will take over. The question isn't if he'll start this year but when

? Because-? That TD toss to White was all White, throw was way off. Ryan was nothing amazing from what I saw.

I'm not trying to call the guy amazing from day one. I think some here are getting a little nit-picky with his first NFL action. For a guy who has only been in the NFL for only a couple months, he did look very good. He recognized the D and found the open man. Steped up in the pocket to make some nice throws. Of course the TD throw could have been better, but if that is the biggest grip for his first action, I don't get why anyone would say he didn't impress. I'm sure this will be a "growing" year for the kid, but sometimes you can just watch a guy and tell he has "it". I'm just saying that I see "it" in Ryan.

When people are making absurd comments like a rookie QB on a bad team that was a mediocre prospect to being with should be taken ahead of young RBs that will probably have a starting gig and solid veteran WRs, a little nit-picking is necessary to knock some sense back into those people.

I see him starting by week 5 or 6.
:goodposting: If Redman stinks up the joint later on in preseason as much as he did in the preseason opener, it'll be even sooner. The rookie LT Sam Baker (see story linked) will make Ryan's chances for decency this year a lot better if Baker keeps up solid play such as seen vs. Jacksonville last night.

Are you really trying to say Forte and Kevin Smith are better prospects than Ryan?

I don't believe Ryan is a mediocre prospect at all.

I live in athens, GA so I want to see the falcons do well but I have to agree with FreeBaGel. Talentaside drafting a rb in your rookie draft over a qb generally makes more sense. First off qbs don't really make an impact their rookie year while rbs do. Second most ppl will have a greater need at rb since most leagues only require you to start one qb meanwhile you can have as many as three or four rbs in your starting lineup. Finally I have to say rbs get hurt, so do qbs but rbs get banged up more often so it makes sense to make sure you have plenty of rbs on hand. Now I'm not saying guys who will backup like ray rice or jamal charles should be taken ahead of ryan but starting rbs...sure

NFL prospects? No. But we're not playing NFL football. We're playing fantasy football. And they're RBs in a position to start or to compete to start, and that gives them much more value than a rookie QB unless that rookie QB is an elite prospect compared to most years. Matt Ryan most certainly is not, he's just the best of a weak rookie QB class. Now, am I trying to say that Forte/Smith are fantasy football prospects than Matt Ryan? Abso-friggin-lutely.

No doubt, but to give Ryan some credit, that was the JAX first-string DEF he was up against in his first action. It could be what the kid needs to get his confidence going, but I agree that when the games matter will be the true test of his gumption.

Admitted Falcons homer here. I do believe we saw Jaxsonville's first team defense out there. Ryan did get sacked twice but he still showed composure and poise. This team will play for Ryan unlike the much maligned Joey Harrington.

Falcon fan too. Harrington was the whipping boy for all that was wrong last year with the team, play-calling, coaching. I do not think the players would play for a raw rook over Joey tomorrow if it was double or nothing on a years salary. Ryan looked ok, better than Flacco in his debut but that was with the 4th string.

Ryan is a very smart kid...Solid Boston College education, you know he is going to pick up the offense and run it efficiently. He isn't the type of guy who can rise above the system he is in, but given a solid amount of talent surrounding him and an OC that has his head on straight, Ryan can be a very solid NFL player..... I wouldn't get excited about his fantasy chances... Having followed him his whole collegiate career, i think his upside is a Phil Simms type player...

Alot of fans wanted Flacco but it looks like our scouts made the right choice on Ryan. Baker looks legit too!

You don't honestly believe that, do you?
