Matt Ryan's Value (1 Viewer)

Abstract

Footballguy
If this is the wrong forum for this question, I apologize and mods please move it to the proper place...

I have Mike Vick, Matt Ryan, and Big Ben on my current roster and I've been trying to trade Ryan for the past 2 weeks. I sent trade offers and tried to acquire the following players only for the trade to get declined:

Thomas Jones (the only other QB on his roster is Kolb)

Jermichael Finley (this owner only has 1 QB on his roster and he has Antonio Gates who has the same bye week as Finley)

Ahmad Bradshaw

Ryan Mathews

Darren McFadden

Jamaal Charles

Joseph Addai

Malcolm Floyd

LeSean McCoy

Jason Witten

Am I missing something here? Why doesn't anyone want Matt Ryan?

I've found QB's historically difficult to deal because the supply outweighs the demand. IMO, only the top tier QB's really generate interest in terms of trade capital. That said, if you think Ryan is the real deal and would gladly put him in your line-up, I would think the move here would be to dangle Vick for higher quality player in return.

I had four QBs (Vick, Cutler, Orton, and Ryan), and I also tried to trade Ryan, but got no takers in a 10-team league. I think there are just too many decent QBs this year, though in your case I can't imagine the Kolb owner not being interested. There is one owner in my league that should be interested also (he has Bradford and Palmer... yuck) but he didn't want to do anything. So, crazy as it sounds, I ended up dumping Ryan on waivers to make room for some other needs, and so far, he is still sitting there.

I was on the verge of dumping Ryan to the WW, but the owners I did talk to in my 12 team league said if I put him on waivers they would claim him immediately.

If you want to move one, you should keep Ryan and move Vick. Vick has a ton of trade value right now and with Ryan/Ben, you will have the QB position covered. You are aiming pretty high in what you are looking for in value for Ryan.

12 team redraft i started with ryan and stafford, ended up picking up vick on waivers after week 1. i've been trying to find a buyer for ryan as a package deal and really couldn't find anyone. i ended up dumping him... orton was also sitting on the wire and nobody would really bite on ryan.

in a 10 team redraft had the same situation but had cutler instead of ryan... i just traded cutler for jstewart. i had ray rice jahvid best as my RB's (as well as charles and d.brown) but i needed some additional depth at RB given their injury scares (hopefully neither are going to linger, but i'm pretty worried about best atm). i'm very happy to get stewart. i plan on riding vick to the superbowl in both leagues...

Thanks for the replies, fellas. I really want to hold onto Vick because he's looking like a MVP candidate right now. I'll just have to curb my opinion on what I think Ryan is worth, because it's looking like he's not worth anything.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I ended up trading Vick and got Michael Turner in return.
You got a steal IMO. I traded Rodgers, Calvin and Z.Miller for Ryan, Moss and Gates a couple weeks ago and then picked up BBen off WW. (Keep up to 4 PPR league).I'm happy I didnt lose that much at QB between Ryan and Berger down the stretch. IMO you got Turner for a WW pickup and you didnt lose QB1 production at QB..

No one wants to give up a good player for a bye week filler QB. For trading, your best bet is to try and trade your best QB to improve your roster then roll with Ryan.

I traded Matt Ryan in the off season for what amounted to Santonio Holmes and Dexter McCluster. I have Rivers and need WR help. This is dynasty though.

Thanks for the perspective guys. I'm in almost the exact same boat. I have Ryan and McNabb behind Vick and have been trying to move one of them in a package but no takers. I really hate to dump either to waivers as some guys in the league are pretty weak at QB and I don't want to improve them but looks like I might have to. I'm going to roll the dice with Vick as he's been by far my best player and I'm 3-0.

I think my plan is to dump McNabb to the WW as I'm in desperate need of a bench spot.

Matt Ryan simply isn't a top-12 QB, he's a high-end backup in a 12-team league. I'd expect most owners to laugh at or be insulted by an offer of Ryan for J Charles, Mathews, McFadden, or Finley when they already have Romo/Brady/Schaub. You are overvaluing your player, by a lot in some cases.

Big Ben has more value than Ryan based on what he did last year, and would bring more in a trade. Will Ben be a top QB this year? Nobody knows, but they'll pay to acquire him & find out. If you start offering Big Ben, I think you could get a Floyd, McCoy, Steve Smith, Forte type of player.
