Smells like chicken
Listened to Tom Kowalski on 97.1 FM on my way into work his morning.

his sources are telling him that Matt Stafford has a Grade 3 separation of the should and will probably be shelved for the season.

Lions would not confirm or deny or report what was found on the MRI.

No Link at this time but Tom Kowalski and Sean Balesian talked about it all morning long on the radio.

Report: Stafford might be done for season

Matthew Stafford - QB - DET - Nov. 9 - 8:14 a.m. ET

Tom Kowalski of MLive.com reports that the Lions fear they may have lost Matthew Stafford for the season due to a Grade 3 separation of his right shoulder.

He had an MRI Monday, but it isn't known if those results, which have been forwarded to Dr. James Andrews, confirm the team's initial diagnosis. Stafford suffered a Grade 2 separation earlier this season that caused him to miss six weeks. As it stands right now, no decision has been made about Stafford's status. If true, it's an unfortunate blow to an offense that really started showing promise with Stafford at the helm. It's not clear if Shaun Hill, who played well while filling in for Stafford earlier this season, will be ready for Week 10. If he's not, Drew Stanton will get the call.

So where are these guys getting their info if not from the Lions? Doctors legally can not disclose this type of information either. How do you trust and article that doesn't list the source of the information?http://www.mlive.com/lions/index.ssf/2010/..._fear_matt.html

Kowalski has been on the lions beat for some 30 years, he has sources inside the lions organization

Feel bad for the kid. Like his moxy. Hopefully Detroit has Hill signed for a couple years because they are going to need him.

Damn - Calvin was really starting to heat up, too
Serious Q for Lions homers - is Stanton really THAT bad? Like, Calvin becomes benchable bad? Calvin did well with Hill earlier in the year but is there really that large a gap between Hill/Stanton?
I'm not a homer, but I will not bench Calvin based on this. It just makes me less warm and cuddly to know Stanton is throwing him the rock :kicksrock:

Physicians are bound. Not everyone who receives the info 2nd and 3rd hand.... like Lions coaching staff and other employees.

Is it too early to put the "injury prone" or "made of glass" tag on Stafford? The kid looks great when he's out there, but he just can't seem to stay healthy.

So would you make line up moves based on this guys take? How accurate has he been in the last 30 years?

Too bad for Lions fans and CJ owners. While CJ's numbers will take a hit, I can't see benching him unless you are loaded at WR. He is still going to get a bunch of targets. I've watched Stanton this year and haven't been impressed. But, with a week's worth of preparation and first team reps you never know. Guess we will see what Scott Linehan can come up with.

He knew that Artose Pinner was not going to be the Lions' RB of the future - that's enough for me.

Yes..Stanton is that bad. Hill is Peyton Manning compared to Stanton. Stanton is a classic #3 guy. Works hard and is a good team guy, but you never want to see him in a game.I am going try try and peddle CJ today to a Lion homer.

Yes, he is a very accurate reporter when it comes to the lions. I snagged S.Hill off waivers in a league based on this info, I dont own Stafford. Certainly its in your best interest to wait until you hear something more concrete before dropping Stafford but it doesnt look good at this point.

How far away is Hill? Most of us need to grab the QB that is likely going to be playing the rest of the way. I dont think Stanton is that guy is he? Hill has to return at some point. How long?

Have to think we bump Pettigrew and Scheffler here.
I do recall that Scheffler did well earlier in the year - not sure if it was with Hill or Stanton though.Burleson may get a bit of a boost as well with defenses assuredly focusing on Calvin.

Yes, it's too early. I haven't watched enough of the Lions to make any proclamations about whether the guy is holding onto the ball too long, doesn't have a knack for stepping away from pressure, etc. but his early years as a starter remind me a lot of Matt Schaub. Another guy that was "made of glass", but it's funny how much more durable a guy gets when his line begins pass-protecting and he gets some decent run support. Detroit just needs a couple of upgrades along the O-line and a year of experience for Jahvid Best. I think Stafford remains a MONSTER buy-low in dynasty.

The most recent blurb I heard was that he's day-to-day. My (largely uneducated) guess is he returns week 11.

Stafford was never injured in high school or college. I'm just thinking that the law of probabilities is catching up with him. He could be fine for years afterward *knock on wood*

The Lion O-line is pass protecting pretty well this year. I am very concerned about Stafford, a Lion beat writer that is on local radio said that in practice Stafford is always getting dinged up. Some players just get injured easier than others. It appears Stafford is one of those players. That is taking away nothing from his ability, but this will be 19 games missed in two seasons. The problem is that at the QB spot you are always going to take some good shots no matter how well the o-line plays.

If Shaun Hill can get back this week it's all good for Calvin owners. If not, it might be my death-knell in my 14-teamer.

Im amazed that its a grade 3 separation on a tackle like that, he was tripped up by his feet and rolled onto his shoulder, no one landed on him.

Agreed. I have to think there is some validity to the rumor he was not 100% healed from his prior shoulder injury.

This is getting pretty annoying. The guy cannot stay healthy. Looks like I'm going to have to draft a rookie QB in my dynasty league next year.

Feel bad for Lions fans this year. I think you really have something with this kid. As a previous poster alluded to his moxy is infectious.

Isn't this the 3rd time in 2 years that he's going to miss time due to an injury to his throwing shoulder?

I think last year's injury was to his non-throwing shoulder.

Matt Schaub didn't go down game after game, year after year with an injury to his throwing shoulder. This is Stafford's what, third? Fourth? I don't know if Stafford is injury prone but his shoulder sure is. Hope he can turn it around, he's a good player.Edit: just saw last year was Stafford's non-throwing shoulder. Still, that just seems to indicate both shoulder joints are weak.

I hear what you're saying and you may very well be right. The tough part about trying to gauge how injury prone a player will be in the future is that the outcome isn't necessarily reflective of the % chance of injury occuring. Maybe the truth is Stafford gets injured once every 100 times he's hit that specific way and the average QB is injured 3.5% of the time he's hit that way. In that case, Stafford's actually less injury prone than the average QB, but just unlucky. We'll never know. That's no comfort to Stafford's redraft owners obviously, but I don't think you can look at the results of Stafford's first two years and lump him in as a guy that "just gets injured easier than others".

I agree, next year will be they key to Staffords and the Lions future.

This.if Shaun Hill doesnt break his forearm, Im thinking Stafford would not have been rushed back
:excited: They took a calculated risk that he could escape re-injury while healing the rest of the way and rolled a snake eyes.
