McClure's BBQ (1 Viewer)

I'm wondering what my wife's reaction is going to be when I open a package with a shirt from a place she knows I've never been and a little baggie falls out.

When do the initial shirt orders get shipped out?
Today from what I understand. Dropped off the insert cards on Saturday afternoon.

Just FYI, Tipsy's rub is potent stuff.. expect your shirts to smell like BBQ rub when you unpack them. There is also a slight chance of these baggies rupturing in shipment. In any case some folks may end up wanting to wash the shirts before wearing them if the aroma bugs ya.
If this happens, I will never wash the shirt.

Yeah, good point. I haven't told mine yet that I ordered one. It's going to be fun thinking up an answer to her question of, "What the heck is McClure's BBQ, and what's in the bag? And why did you order this shirt again?"

LOL, I hope I am the one getting the package. I was thinking the same thing.

As far as my wife knows, Tipsy is sending them out free to his FBG friends.

My wife doesnt mind. She is actively trying to find time for us to get down there to try it.

Your wives would be upset because you bought a shirt?
No, but telling her I bought a t-shirt to support Tipsey, who I haven't even met yet, is a little harder than the free t-shirt explanation. I don't think she would care, but I also don't want to have to deal with any of my friends finding out a "funny" story my wife tells their wife. I'm hoping to make it down to New Orleans to sample the food at some point, but I have no clients anywhere near there. Its way too long of a drive, so is that Memphis fest, which sounds like a blast.

My cover story for the t-shirt is I told my wife that I am banging a hooker named McClure

I was going to give him 1,000 when he was looking for cash. You should have seen that conversation with the wife. I told her to trust me and that he was good peeps. She said it was fine. But then he didnt need the money

LOL, no way I would have ever had that conversation and I'm the one that controls the flow of money, or at least did until my wife started working over a year ago. I finally got her self-sufficient where she takes care of a lot of house type bills and is now pre-paying for our family summer vacation for the second time. Nice after 11 years of stay at home mom-dom, but I am derailing this thread.

How's the brisket been, pretty consistent now with the wrap?

JoeT will not be pleased. :ducks:
That seems uncharacteristic

I told wifey that when the shirt came I would cut the sleeves off, take a pic somewhere in Charm City, then post it on Footballguys. She was like "why do your Footballguys want you to cut the sleeves off?"

It's gotten so that now if we want to go somewhere new, or we have a question we can't answer, she's says "why don't you go ask your Footballguys?"

Where are you thinking of taking the pic in Baltimore. Mine is coming to Baltimore as well.

Well, let's make sure we show multiple shots of our fair city. I was thinking of taking mine from my seats at the Ravens game with the game in the background.

Promoted a guy 2 weeks ago to run my kitchen.

Said guy has mad skills with food, zero with leading people.

Turned out to have a very belittling & aggressive style with the staff.

I told him to ease up with the heavy hand no less than 3 times. It got worse.

He didn't like our last chat so he left...in the begging stages of our busiest day yet.

I'm not going to sacrifice a good work environment for anything. Even with catering for 80, pickups for 40lbs of meats, and 200 sliders for the bar across the street, plus the 220 people that walked in for food during the coarse of the day......I simply put on an apron and proceeded to have my best day as a new owner/manager and lost 3 pounds to boot.

I also closed the Tuesday nights again. Cooking all day for just one shift is not very cost effective and I needed two days off or my 42 year old legs will fall off.

I was thinking in front of the Jonny U statue in front of the stadium initially myself. (since I don't have tickets to any games.)

I think Cinnamon G set the bar at portly, so probably only 22 more to go.

Glad you told me that. I was coming by tonight. Guess I'll make it tomorrow. Can't wait.

I know that Kickstarter wasn't a part of the financing discussion for McClure's (at least that I recall) but I found this article interesting re: startup restaurants. Seemed appropriate to post as part of this larger discussion. If not, carry on.

http://www.minnesotamonthly.com/media/Minnesota-Monthly/August-2013/Why-Should-I-Pay-for-Your-Restaurant/

Why Should I Pay for Your Restaurant?by Jason Derusha

In an age where every coffee shop has a tip jar, it’s no surprise that food entrepreneurs are now asking us to chip in to literally construct their restaurants.

The crowd-funding website, Kickstarter, is driving this trend and it drives me crazy. I’m happy to make a donation to your non-profit fundraiser, or even help you record an album that I suspect will never make a dime, but the idea of me giving away my hard-earned cash so you can build a profitable restaurant seems ludicrous.

On Kickstarter, project creators set their fundraising goal, and if they meet it, they get the money. If not, the “investors” get their money back. I use quotes because you’re really just a donor who sometimes receives an incentive or reward.

The new Buttered Tin bakery in St. Paul reached its $10,000 goal in about three weeks. Those who paid $100 received a dozen cupcakes and an invitation to an exclusive donor open house. I assumed that most Kickstarter patrons were friends or family of the project creators, but Jennifer Lueck, a Buttered Tin co-owner, says that they actually had a large number of strangers donate.

Still, the bulk of the bakery’s start-up funds are, indeed, coming from loans. “There’s no way we could raise enough money to open our bakery through Kickstarter alone,” Lueck admits. But the crowd-funded route provides one brilliant benefit that a bank loan can’t match: “We are funding a marketing campaign, plain and simple,” she says. If people donate $10 or $20 or $50 to a place that isn’t even open,“every time they think about where to go, they’re going to go to that place.”

Dangerous Man Brewing Company didn’t use the Kickstarter platform, but rather raised money from a large pool of friends and relatives in a similar manner, with a similar purpose. The difference is that Dangerous Man investors receive an ownership stake and dividend checks at the end of the year, as long as there are profits. “Having 70 investors gave us a loyal base of customers who are invested and want to see this business succeed,” says owner Rob Miller. In my experience, it seems to be working. A friend of mine invested and then introduced me and my family to the brewery.

Alas, an appetite for donating doesn’t always translate to an appetite for the product: the Kickstarter-funded Donut Cooperative in Seward closed in a year.

I wish the Kickstarters well, but if I’m going to invest, I want a piece of the action, not just a plate of cupcakes.

Mr. krista would probably do it without a decent offer.

Yeah it's a lot easier to replace 1 kitchen manager than everyone else on your staff because KM is a blowhard.

Shirt arrived today! I'm debating washing it cuz it smells like heaven...
Did you ever get a shipping notice or tracking? I got the order confirmation but nothing about it shipping or any tracking info.
Actually, no. The email addy I used for them, I can't remember the password too ( ). So I just took it on faith that it would show up in my mail box. Voila! Came today. USPS sucks for tracking info though. So I don't think it would of mattered much

Theyre not doing tracking for these. Keep in mind you're dealing with a small independent retailer shipping via USPS. We've all been spoiled by Amazon Prime (Myself included). USPS Tracking just adds unnecessary cost as they are worthless. I've had "Delivery notifications" nearly a week after a package has been delivered before. :)
