McCoy: Best back in football? (1 Viewer)

McCoy is very good. However, its insane to me how much attention Vick, McCoy, the D, etc. all get while nobody mentions their o-line:

Jason Peters was injured last year. However, when he was last healthy in 2011 Pro Football Focus ranked him as the 11th best player in the entire NFL(and the #1 o-lineman) in their year end grades. Their writeup of him that year:

Peters was comfortably the top-ranked tackle in our 2011 grades and it’s therefore hardly surprising that he’s the top-ranked tackle in this list. His +27.6 overall grade was nearly twice as good as the next best tackle, and he did it with a quarterback who doesn’t help him out a great deal by holding onto the ball. Finished fourth in the pass protection rankings, and second in the run blocking grades as his athleticism was a perfect fit in Howard Mudd’s system.
PFF had Evan Mathis ranked as the 6th best player in the NFL in 2012(and the #1 o-lineman) and the 18th best player in the NFL in 2011. Their writeups:

It’s easy to ignore guards, but when you’re looking at an ‘all players created equal’ list, then you simply have to have Mathis this high. The Eagles may have struggled, but the continued brilliance of Mathis was unavoidable. He might not have the same impact blocks as others, but his continued ability to create movement at the point of attack makes Mathis the best guard in the league.
We’ve gotten something of a reputation as champions of Mathis when, in actuality, all we’re doing is pointing out what is there for anyone to see: in 2011, on a play-by-play basis, there wasn’t a better guard in the entire league. You want to know how good he was? His run blocking grade was almost three times better than the next left guard, while his pass protection netted him a Top 10 spot among all guards. He didn’t have one negatively-graded game and was easily our top OG on the year. All you’ve got to do is watch him on every play and you won’t be able to dispute it. Every play.
So you're starting off with, when healthy, perhaps the 2 best linemen in all of football and 2 top 15 overall NFL players. Then you add the #4 overall pick(Lane Johnson) this year, Jason Kelce(who has been great so far this year), and a career-long starting lineman in Todd Herremans.

They deserve way more credit than they are getting imo.

And while you're correct it's unlikely that its going to happen in the fantasy football community because nobody really cares.

Seeing as you're basing your judgements simply off PFF's 2011 scores for players, well LeSean McCoy was the #3 RB in the league in 2011 according to PFF behind just MJD and Arian Foster. So based off that, I don't see why you'd take issue with a thread calling McCoy the best back in the league in 2013 seeing as you have little issue supposing Peters/Mathis as the 2 best O-linemen.

Completely agree. The line was decimated last year and McCoy wasn't the same player.

I am not taking issue with this thread in any way. Since there is no "Philly o-line thread" I felt that this was an appropriate place to post it.

Rotoworld:

Coach Chip Kelly blamed LeSean McCoy's season-low eight Week 15 carries on the game plan and game flow.

The Vikings have one of the worst secondaries in the league and were missing two starters due to injury. Then, the Eagles fell behind by 11 points late in the second quarter and by 18 points midway through the third. It left McCoy as a mere decoy far too often. "It felt like we were down two scores all the time," Kelly said. Expect the Week 16 game plan to feature McCoy extensively as the Eagles will be facing the Bears' league-worst run defense.

Yeah, felt like that to us owners, too.

Can't argue, though. He carried teams the week (and really the season) before. He was such a good back this year, he got it done.

Rotoworld take:

LeSean McCoy expects a massive workload in Sunday night's game against the Bears.

Even if the Cowboys beat the Redskins at 1pm, coach Chip Kelly said he will not rest any of his players against the Bears. So the game plan will almost certainly be built around McCoy as the league's leading rusher faces the league's worst run defense. "I feel like this game, I need to put the offense on my back," McCoy said. He's easily fantasy's No. 1 RB for Super Bowl week.

Wouldn't you rather have him than play against him this week?

Not if Jaamal Charles was one of my choices.

I think Jamaal Charles has something to say about Mccoy being best back in football... Mccoy is top 3. Charles/forte/mccoy/ap

This was my point. Rotoworld really discounted Charles with that comment.

It's close because Charles also plays Indy, but the Bears have been SO bad against the run this year, I'd rather have McCoy this week.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_man

To "attack a straw man" is to create the illusion of having refuted a proposition by replacing it with a superficially similar yet unequivalent proposition (the "straw man"), and to refute it, without ever having actually refuted the original position

LeSean McCoy - RB - Eagles

LeSean McCoy said Darren Sproles' 26 touches through two weeks don't bother him at all.

"I don't mind it all," McCoy said after Monday night's comeback win. "And I don't feel as tired or as beat." McCoy still has a very healthy 51 touches through two weeks, so it's not like he's being underutilized. Owners have nothing to worry about as the 31-year-old Sproles is going to regress to the mean and McCoy is staying very fresh.

Rotoworld:

LeSean McCoy rushed 20 times for 22 yards and caught one pass for zero yards in Sunday's Week 3 win over the Redskins.

McCoy left briefly early on to be checked for a concussion, but that wasn't the issue here. An Eagles offensive line that was the best in the league last year is currently operating at a bottom-five level thanks to injuries and suspensions. They had no prayer against a speedy Redskins front that we need to start taking very seriously against the run. The only shred of good news is that McCoy rushed 20 times compared to two for Darren Sproles, squashing any silly RBBC concerns. McCoy is a good bet to bounce back despite a tough matchup at San Francisco in Week 4.

Zero holes. I mean zero. This was supposed to be a dominant offensive line. I know there have been suspensions, injuries, ejections, etc - but this is far from an elite line right now. He's working for every single half yard.

Give credit to the skins, that Dline had an amazing game today

Rotoworld:

Eagles C Jason Kelce reportedly needs surgery to repair a hernia.

It's the latest blow to a mangled Eagles offensive line. Kelce will reportedly be out 6-8 weeks, leaving David Molk to step in at center. This is a unit that was already without RT Lane Johnson (4-game suspension), RT Allen Barbre (ankle) and stud LG Evan Mathis (knee). An offensive line that was nothing short of dominant last season is now playing at a bottom-five level.

Although he was dancing a bit, the OL has to step up.

Johnson is back after week 4 and Mathis is 2 weeks into a 4-8 week rehab.
