I have seen very little writtten about him. I wonder if it insane for my fantasy season to be resting on his shoulders. Does anyone know if he still splits time or if he has the SS job cemented. TIA

We've covered him on the podcast a couple of times, including this past week, and most of the staff has devoted some space in their columns to him. He's the SS for the remainder of the regular season. Archuleta has been relegated to special teams only. Next season is in question, however, with Kevin Payne and Josh Gattis around, as well as the potential return of Mike Brown. He's a solid tackler and usually around the ball, but isn't much better in coverage than Archuleta. It will be very interesting to see how he performs in the boxscore tonight. We've discussed it in a few AC threads and the Michael Lewis thread; the trend for safeties against the Vikings isn't good. Doesn't make a lot of sense given the Vikings reliance on the running game despite the eight man fronts, but only Gibril Wilson has had an above-average game against Minnesota. I think McGowan could bust the trend tonight. Good luck tonight.

This season...nothing is insane as far as lineups or fantasy scores go. The thing I have seen with trends this year is mind boggling. Good luck.

Jene,

Thanks for the information regarding McGowan. I lost my Ipod years ago. IYO what is the most probable scenario in regards to his numbers. Would I be better off looking for another option such as Manning, Smith, or Sharper (I know this is borderline Asst. Coach, but relevant opinions regarding McGowan are hard to come by)?

Thanks

I don't have an IPod either -- crazy how quickly I've become technically challenged. If you're interested, you can listen to the podcasts on your PC from our direct links under the podcast button.I still think McGowan is your best option tonight, but I'm reluctant to stick my neck out for him as I've done earlier in the year given the trend that's busted guys like Bigby (twice), Huff, MLewis and KKennedy. None of those guys had more than three solos. Gibril Wilson and Clinton Hart had seven and five tackles respectively, so there's hope, especially since, as Anthony said, the matchup trends have been lying in wait to burn us all year long. McGowan is the best tackler of the safeties tonight; unless you want to risk the big play value of Sharper, I think you ride out the storm.

I can also see Mike Brown getting cut after spending so much time on IR, leaving McGowan there for the long-term. Jene's usually spot-on, although I like Smith or Sharper because

wrt Ipods and podcasts, it's great that FBGs is trying to stay technically relevant, but some delivery methods aren't for everyone. I don't have the time to watch a 5 minute video for blurbs about 75% of players I don't own, it's simply a lot quicker to search the forums and scan the subscriber content for my players. Of course, maybe if I had listened to the podcasts, I'd have done a lot better in my leagues this year....

Dragging this back from the dead in light of Lovie's recent comments that both Brown and Archuleta will be back next year. Does McGowan still hold the starter job?

He seemed to produce decently down the stretch last year.

I'm sure the Bears would love to have Mike Brown in 08 if he's truly Mike Brown. Depending on the draft I can easily see Brown/McGowan as an option. Not one I'd bet on though.
