Steve McNair will be out at least two to three weeks with a shoulder injury, which means Kyle Boller will be the Ravens' starting quarterback Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.

McNair sustained a subluxation of his non-throwing shoulder -- which means it kept popping in and out of joint -- late in Sunday's 21-7 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, coach Brian Billick announced on his weekly radio show tonight.

Boller, who was a three-year starter before the Ravens traded for McNair, is 2-1 as the starter this season.

Two weeks or two year, this really doesn't matter.McN is done.

WHat can one expect from Boller against Cleveland?
Deeper routes and throws.Demetrius Williams will "suddenly come from nowhere" when in reality he's been languishing due to a QB who can't throw more than 10 yards.Clayton and Mason should combine for 15 catches or more.Only question is which TE plays - Heap would be a good start if healthy, otherwise Sypniewski gets decent numbers. Also a good game from McGahee, rushing and passing.Boller should have 200+ yards and 2TDs. Yes, I'm talking about the Ravens.

Seems a little high, but possible. You've got to have time to throw those deep routes and that's been some of the problem. Boller is more mobile than McNair and has a better arm. The questions are whether he has learned to read the secondary and whether he can avoid making really poor plays. Sometimes he does some really boneheaded things.I'd expect about 3 long ball targets to Williams. Mason will be good in PPR, especially if Heap is limited. Those two are the guys he seems really comfortable going to as possession guys. Clayton has a better chance to put up good numbers too, he might get one of the targets downfield. Remember that this is the Ravens and stretching the field is not their "profile". Regardless of who's in at QB, they're still more of a '6 yd pass on 3rd and 9' kind of team.As for the issue at hand, McNair is a bit of a problem capwise. He's due $4.25M next year and there's some $6.5M in signing bonus left. Seems like the Ravens want to give Boller one more chance to prove he's a decent enough QB so they can justify cutting or trading McNair. If Boller falls on his face (again), it'd probably be back to the draft for a QB. If that happens, I'd expect them to keep McNair around for another year to groom the new guy and keep the vets happier. McNair has been fighting through injuries all season, but I think the Ravens have overstated injuries to justify benchings in the past.

Cleveland is #31 in the league in passing yardage defense and #32 in the league in passing and overall scoring defense. That's followed up by San Diego, #26 in passing yardage defense. Combined with the widespread discontent with McNair, it's Boller's last, best chance to take the starting reins back.

If the Ravens win two to get back in contention, I think Boller keeps the starting job. If they don't win two, he may continue starting against New England and Indianapolis, but with the season basically shot at that point, you might see Troy Smith.

I think he'll surprise some people; Boller has been quietly effective since the latter half of 2005.

Jeff, I think the question was what CAN one expect not what SHOULD one expect. All sarcasm aside, Boller has played in 7 games (3 starts) in 07 and while throwing some deeper passes, his stats aren't that different with both avg less than 6.0 yds/attempt and sub 75 QB ratings.

Smith was awful in preseason and my understanding is that they view him as a project so barring injuries, I don't think you see him in there other than on perhaps gimmicks and/or mop up duty.Regarding Boller, I don't agree other than to say he is decent at home but dreadful on the road. He has a ton of heart though and without a doubt best blocking QB in the league

McNair shouldn't have been starting anyway. Boller isn't great, but he's a better QB. I'd expect this Cleveland-Baltimore game to be a lot higher scoring due to Boller - Cleveland can score, and suddenly the Ravens don't have a fragile, immobile, weak-armed turnover machine at QB.

McNair needs to get out while he can still walk - he's been tough, but he's lost everything at this point.

Bump for Clayton. Might be the time to pick this cat up.
Just grabbed him and now am seriously thinking of starting him if D. Williams is out as well. Clayton had a real nice week last week 12 targets, 8 catch's 105 yards and this week goes against Clev. @ home.

Kyle Boller-QB-Ravens Nov. 14 - 3:56 pm et

Ravens coach Brian Billick admitted Wednesday that Kyle Boller could finish out the rest of the season starting.

Billick also couldn't say definitively whether Steve McNair will ever play again for the Ravens. McNair's base pay jumps to $4 million in 2008, and that's probably too much for a backup. The Ravens could bring in a rookie or veteran with some ability to challenge Boller, and cut McNair in the spring.
