I had a dream last night that I showed up at the booth and GB[ blew me off. GBTM was as nice as could be.

Cmon down for someI totally should have planned a work trip to Memphis later this week...
and
They're all breast booths on thursday and friday nightsI will go if there is a breast booth.
We paid for 5 lines (110V/20A) but got 4 more "free" thanks to connections...How much electrical do you have running to the structure?
Not sure if that behemoth puts a target on your back or will be an advantage because it will be the most badass place to party. Either way, wish I was going. After getting our wrist slapped, they've informed us that they'll be changing the rules next year regarding booth size....
Sooo.... McClure's Barbecue will forever hold the record of the biggest booth in the history of the World Championship of Barbecue![]()

Would never happen, GB
I am usually pretty damn busy for a lot of the fest but I always try to hang with everyone as much as possible![]()
(And you've got a package coming your way after BBQfest)
This is definitely something we've talked about. Not sure if that behemoth puts a target on your back or will be an advantage because it will be the most badass place to party. Not to mention there will be TONS of TV crews down there shooting. I anticipate the booth to get a good bit of air time. Also with the "you don't win friends with salad" tagline down low on the side, we're anticipating lots of people to be taking photos in front of that area.
likely accurate...I know GB... dreams can be messed up. Tipsey would be the one to blow me off![]()
Holy crap...this is crazy. Do you have room for the smoker?
I've had this happen several times and I kinda like the mystery factor, but it's 100% tipsy's call if he wants to adjust it.icon
speaking of the "you don't win friends with salad" tagline
I was flying home from Vegas last night wearing my McClure's shirt and we were waiting in the jetway and a guy had to come up in the line and ask to see the front of the shirt to understand what the tagline meant. Not sure if on a later run you should put a line under the tagline on the back that indicates McClure's or whether it is better to let someone try to come up front to read.
Smoker will be out back with a couple steps down to the ground level... technically "illegally" borrowing space. If we have issues we may have to push the portapotties forward and slide it up on the decking but we will see. Shouldn't be an issue (fingers crossed).Holy crap...this is crazy. Do you have room for the smoker?
I might agree - but am wondering how many people don't get up the nerve to do it.I've had this happen several times and I kinda like the mystery factor, but it's 100% tipsy's call if he wants to adjust it.icon

Our old team "Slab Yo Mama BBQ" is no longer. Myself, tipsy, and 5 other guys amicably left that team due to various issues. In forming the new team, that group formed Usual Saucepects, LLC as a holding company for the team (team counsel advised against using anyones name on the actual LLC). 3 other key guys from that team have now joined "Meat Makers (makers mark sponsored team) so I'm guessing Slab is officially dead :(Maybe a stupid question, but is your team officially McClure's now? And weren't you guys doing this long before Tipsey hung out his shingle? Or is the whole idea to revolve your team around the que, so whomever provides the que is the "leader" of the team?
Everything is super interesting and looks awesome. If you provided some pics of other teams rigs for perspective, that'd be pretty cool.
Thanks for the back story. Tipsey's gotta be getting tons of marketing/exposure when this thing is all finished. Location #2 upcoming methinks. Our old team "Slab Yo Mama BBQ" is no longer. While goofy names are fun, the team voted to compete under McClure's Barbecue since neil is doing the cooking, and since it might give us a little more credibility with the judges than a goofy name. As a bonus, I like that it helps build awareness for Tipsy's restaurant/brand. That said, there's no leader or face of the team per se. We all fulfill various roles with the team. Folks that don't pull their weight will be voted off and backfilled with quality folks who will.
I definitely will snap tons of pics of various setups to give you guys some perspective. But for comparison... out of 400 or so teams competing, there may be 20-30 scaffolding setups. Of those, perhaps 5-6 may be 3 stories high? 90% of the booths are simply floor sections set down under a pop up tent.
Tremendous!! Best of luck fellas!
Still timeI totally should have planned a work trip to Memphis later this week...
uh..this should be interesting.....going to make for some very long days...I can't wait!THe best laid plans...
• Lagunitas was supposed to send 16 kegs of Daytime (4.2%) to satisfy a light beer option for our hot summer / all day drinking..
• Instead they send NightTime to nashville which is 7.5% Black Ale...![]()
• They apologize, and ask how I want to handle it. Tell them to send 16 kegs IPA then 8 kegs of the (untasted) black ale.
• THEN, I get an email this AM that they accidentally sent 16 Nighttime and 8 IPA![]()
• They're reshipping the 16IPA and 8 Nighttime for arrival tomorrow PM.
• Still rather concerned about the lack of a "Light" beer at the booth at this point, but hard to look a gift horse in the mouth.
Oh.. and the 3 large refrigeration units we've paid to be delivered, and will rely on for food/beverage chilling are still yet to be seen.![]()
My job would be MUCH easier if everyone else would do THEIR jobs.![]()
Yeah I anticipate that being for the "have a beer or two" crowd. May try to barter away a few of those for some lighter beer...Need a whole lot of bumps to drink Black Ale all day and night
I predict your vodka drinks will be a big hitYeah I anticipate that being for the "have a beer or two" crowd. May try to barter away a few of those for some lighter beer...Need a whole lot of bumps to drink Black Ale all day and night
But yeah that's why I went with the IPA as the majority beer.
You need some light beer for the chicks if nothing else. Now putting out feelers with a half dozen teams or so about possibly swapping out a Keg of Lagunitas for a keg of bud light under the conditions they pick up/drop off and then swap back shells on Saturday.
Figure if I can swap off half a dozen kegs or so that will give us a safety value for those who are scared by real beer.![]()
Seems a no-brainer.Now putting out feelers with a half dozen teams or so about possibly swapping out a Keg of Lagunitas for a keg of bud light under the conditions they pick up/drop off and then swap back shells on Saturday.

If conditions like that hit they will close the park... Long before anything that can bring down that scaffold hits. The nature of scaffold construction is every post/pole is locked in place. Nothing is just resting or hanging on anything else.... This is all commercial grade scaffold built by professionals. How safe is that thing if you get really bad weather - high winds/near tornado/lightening like conditions ?
Yeah, I'd be more concerned with a popup thunderstorm and the scaffolding acting like a lightning rod.If conditions like that hit they will close the park... Having tried to remove a cross bar (first without using a 20lb framing hammer to release the retention pin), I'm very comfortable standing on or under this thing.
We don't get those pop up storms like Florida does... very few folks do, actually. Alll weather comes from ark across the river. We will have a great view of anything that might be developing. Wed is the only day where weather is a concern RIGHT NOW... and we will only have 40-60 folks down there. No worries at all.Yeah, I'd be more concerned with a popup thunderstorm and the scaffolding acting like a lightning rod.If conditions like that hit they will close the park... But I guess I've lived in Florida too long.
I wish. We are trying to get 4-5 more team members down to the booth to get the damn top level carpeted and the 3 refrig units moved from the front of our booth to the back (MIM screwed up timetable then refused to let the vendor deliver to anywhere but the front of the booth, because they screwed up the timetable). Is it BBQ time yet?
