That was pretty interesting.
How are they gonna have this go from here? I am not so much worried about the Red John theme rolling on but how will they resolve Jane committing murder in public? I think they made a point of showing the waitress so there will likely be some sort of big trial that he somehow gets himself out of but would CBI really keep him on after that even if he is free?

Didn't Red John have a gun? Self defense?

Red John had a gun.

He did have a gun and obviously we (I?) are a little biased in seeing exactly what happened... I see getting off the hook at trial easier than them keeping him on at CBI. And don't forget him accusing the director and then telling him to 'walk away' while the director was saying there would be consequences. How they swing this is going to be interesting to me.

I really liked it. Not sure what will happen for future seasons though. I kind of looked at the Mentalist how I look at "how I met your mother"... Once Ted tells the story of meeting his mother, the series is over. Since the mentalist was only working with the police department to get closer to his wife's killer, will this series be over now too?

ETA: glad this got moved into this thread instead of starting my own... can't believe this thread didn't come up in my search.

Finally got to watch this on DVR after being gone all weekend. Great episode.

I really like the show, but honestly, if they decided not to bring it back, I'd be perfectly fine with the way it ended.

Finally just watched this. Great season ending.

Is it possible that that wasn't Red John. Maybe like his assistant or something? Or there is someone else beyond Red John?

I lean to it being Red John. But there is still the whole question of him having people willing to die for him, including possibly more people/moles in the agency. Red John is dead, but the story has plenty of directions it can still go.

I'm still in the camp that Red John is Grace Van Pelt's nutty football coach father, Amos Van Pelt. Evidence:

1. Red John has serious connections to CBI.

2. Red John hacks into the CBI computer system with ease.

3. Red John should be closely tied with someone in the CBI. If he's not, he's gonna be a completely new character which would suck imo.

4. Tension between Van Pelt and Patrick Jane early in season 1, foreshadowing future conflict I imagine.

Grace is probably THE ultimate mole. She's the newest member of the team, joining when Patrick Jane joined. Coincidence? No. Everyone runs off chasing baddies every episode leaving her behind in the office by herself all day, supposedly surfing the web for information. She's probably the one leaking everything to Red John. O'Laughlin didn't just date Grace, he knew her nutty father. They both probably brainwashed him to help embed Grace even further in the CBI.

I hated the reveal that some random was Red John at the end of last season. Very happy it was fake.

The other thing that sets off my alarms about Grace is, every once in a while, she flashes this ridiculous expertise from nowhere. I think there was a scene with her and Rigsby out on assignment together and she flashed some expert driving and he was shocked. Another time Grace was interviewing a woman walking her dog. The dog would not stop barking for some reason. The woman couldn't get her to stop. At the end of the scene, Grace turns swiftly to the dog, glares evilly at it, gives a quick hush and the dog shuts up and whimpers. The throwaway scene made no sense in the context of the story - except if she was connected to Red John.

I don't trust her.

Yeah, but she's hawt. :wub:Interesting theory.

Do you know how many women watch this show? There is no way they make this love thing with her and Rigsby a sham. It would kill the show.

For a red head (of which I am normally not a fan) she is pretty hot. The one episode where they had her all cleaned up in a red dress.... wow.

An interesting hypothesis. I'll have to keep it in mind going forward.

Count me in as another fan of the show, though I can take or leave the Red John sub-plot. The episodes are good enough on their own.

Just watched the first few episodes of this series. Entertaining stuff. I'm a fan. Hoping the quality doesn't drop off.ETA - oh and the main chick Lisbon? Beautiful.

I'll take the redhead over Lisbon

Have you noticed that the actress must be pregnant. They've shown her only at her desk this season.

Yep. Took a few eps to realize what they were doing, then I looked it up to confirm that she is in fact preggo

Is this the last season of the show or are they just wrapping up the Red John storyline (calling it "The Final Chapter")?

(I ony made it about 20 min. into last night's episode with the delayed start)

Possibly both. Hopefully the Red John thing will actually be wrapped up in the next episode...for real this time, not like they did in the final episode of the season a couple of seasons ago.

yeah, i'm kind of like 'solve this already.' but i really like the show. hope it isn't the last season.

The last few episodes have constituted a jump-the-shark moment. They took the Red John thing too far. It was an okay plot device to explain why Patrick would join the CBI, but this Blake Society nonsense means that the show is about done.

Who was Red John? I stopped watching a long time ago.
Sheriff McAllister - head of the Blake Association (larger police conspiracy)
I don't even remember him. Was he only in that one season or was he recurring in prior seasons?
I think his first episode dated back to the 1st 2 or 3 episodes of season 1. He was not a regular recurring character though.

ETA - looking up imdb - character was in 5 episodes, Episode 2 of season 1, and then the 4 episodes leading up to his death.
