Merceds Lewis = sleeper? (1 Viewer)

Anybody thinking that Mercedes Lewis might be in line for a bounce back season? The Jag's kept stressing that they plan on using him as a red zone target this season and he is only one season removed from having 10 td's in a season and being one of the top te's in fantasy football.

He's got a tough matchup this week, but if you have room I think he might be worth a flyer.

i'm considering him strongly because i'm disappointed in Fred Davis's looks so far this year and think he might be a bust.

theyre going to be using so many differnt receivers in washington its almost going to turn into the saints .. unless you have colston/garcon.. then theres no telling who else is going to benefitfrom what i heard garcon has turf toe so garcon may not be playing next week

I'm buying. Gabbert was down right terrible last year, and the Jags #1 receiver was Mike Thomas. Teams could focus on taking Lewis away last year as he was their only real passing weapon. And even when he got open it was hit or miss whether Gabbert could get him the ball. I think it frustrated him, because as the seaon went on he started dropping some easy passes. This year, Gabbert looks improved. They added Blackmon and Robinson to help keep defenses honest and MJD is still productive. Things are lined up for him to be a top 10 TE. It's really up to him to keep his concentration and produce.

People keep saying he has turf toe. It's like a bad game of telephone."Redskins coach Mike Shanahan stopped short of providing a concrete update on Pierre Garcon's foot injury Monday.Garcon is extremely confident he'll play against the Rams in Week 2, but the Redskins are being more cautious. "It's kind of like when you have turf toe, but it's not the toe," is how Shanahan described Garcon's injury. We'll have more info on Garcon as the practice week commences on Wednesday. Garcon was the Redskins' featured receiver all preseason and in Week 1 against the Saints. Sep 10 - 4:59 PM"Not sure what "Like turf toe, but it's not the toe" means... I know Turf Toe is a sprained ligament in the big toe. So my only assumption would be a sprained ligament somewhere in his foot that isn't within the toe? I'm assuming minor if he intends on playing this week.

I'm not as bullish on Lewis, as in his 10 TD year he had a decent, but not spectacular, 58 receptions. In fact, his receptions over his career have been 13, 37 41, 32, 58, and 39.

It's a bit risky chasing TDs rather than looks, as we all know that TDs are very variable.

Unless one thinks that all of a sudden he's going to be a target monster, I wouldn't chase the TDs. He had zero TDs and no more than 2 in any other year.

With Blackmon and Robinson on board, and the offense running through MJD, I'm just not sure there will be enough passes going Marcedes' way.

I love Marcedes Lewis in leagues that start 2 tight ends. Not as enthused about him in a league that starts only one. He was TE3 in 1.0 PPR leagues in 2010, but then the guys who were ahead of him then are probably still ahead of him, plus Gronk and Hernandez and Graham, and a few others who will be in the same area as he. And I don't know that he'll reach the numbers he did in 2010.

So I think in the draft he was a cheap gamble to get you a below average to bad TE1 late. But unless you're starting him as a 2nd TE, or you have nothing at all at TE now, not sure that helps a whole lot.

I agree with Zamboni's take.
