MIA RB Lamar Miller (1 Viewer)

We all realize the running back position has been devalued in the NFL. However, didn't Lamar Miller look like a player at The U?

Seems like his draft stock has fallen a bit too far at this point. Is he injured, over rated, or is there something else that can explain this?

He's a steal right now and I'd love to see him fall into a good spot.

he's looking like the next jonathan dwyer
It's starting the feel that way. At least with Dwyer there were some issues (odd offense, medication questions at the combine, and bigger frame) but what's the deal here?Running backs are certainly being selected...just not Miller.

Im incredibly surprised about the drop. Ive clearly miscalculated his ability, I had him as the 2nd best RB in the class

I believe this will motivate him even more. What's great is he won't cost anything near what he would have a round or two ago...he likely will end up in the 4th round somewhere tomorrow. He's far from a 1 trick pony, he was tearing it up from the moment he stepped on the field in Miami, I will be surprised if he is an after thought in the NFL.

Now, he might not get 1st crack like some of the 1st round RBs but I like the fact a guy with this much talent is going to be a lot cheaper in rookie drafts...he might slide out of the 1st round at this rate.

4 of the next 5 teams could take him.

Looks like a combination of being overrated/injured.

I read that he had some shoulder problems, but I didn't know it was something that would drop him down significantly.

Had him below Richardson and Martin myself. Toyed with the idea that the Broncos would shock us late 1st and get a great game changer to keep defenses honest with Peyton Manning under center. Now we're a few selections away from him being a 3rd day (4th+ round) draft pick.

One more side note, he did blow off his final 2 years at Miami so it is possible teams feel he has a lot of maturing to do...again I like the talent and even if it takes him 1-2 years to find his footing in the NFL, at this point he certainly won't be asked to be a bellcow, this still may work out well for him depending on the team he lands with.

Running backs are the one position players should leave college early. If they hope to get a second NFL contract at least.Players don't have to pass all the off the field questions that quarterbacks do to play running back in the NFL. There must be some type of injury concern with Miller.

He needs surgery
Link? Not doubting your info, just would like to read about it.
What Steed says is right. An inside source...a birdie on a window sill, it's on twitter if search hard enough. He needs shoulder surgery, that is why is dropping.
So does this bring into question his decision to leave early/football intelligence/or both?
Considering the situation @ the U, nobody can blame the kid for jumping ship. He just got unlucky...

Unless he got "unlucky" by dropping his uncle's fridge while moving last month and not from a lingering injury from last year, I would strongly question every part of the above question.

Every team in the NFL has passed on selecting him now at least once and so far at least 7 other Running Backs have been selected ahead of him.

Player scouting isn't an exact science, but this can't be a good sign on how he was evaluated by the NFL

Depending on the type of shoulder surgery it might be months before full recovery, he could potentially miss the season. Nothing official out on this but like some previous posters have said there are rumors about him needing surgery after the draft. Others have mentioned that he was so banged up at Miami that he never practiced.

Is this why Miller didn't perform the bench at the combine? I haven't seen and benching numbers from him.

What a waste.
I don't agree at all. If Miller is the back some think, he will have the opportunity to beat out an average looking RB in Thomas. It is not like he is behind a guy like Rice/Foster/AD ect. The situation reminds me of what happened to Frank Gore. Injury concerns pushed him back to the 3rd round and he was able to take the job over time.

And it wasn't all that long either, folks knew pretty quick he was the goods. I see Miller more like Portis than Gore.

It makes a lot more sense if Miami doesn't plan on needing Miller playing right away. Gives Thomas a season to prove something, and if they aren't happy with him Miller would be primed and ready to go and they got him very cheap. Miami surely knows they aren't going anywhere this season, so might as well look down the road a bit.

:goodposting: Teams obviously had concerns about Miller, but Miami got value at that selection and can afford to sit on him as an insurance policy to Thomas. If he's good enough to beat out Thomas then great, if he's a good backup then great, and if he busts then they only used mid round pick to get him. My personal prediction is they feel they have their two RBs of the future and will committee them in some fashion, as is the nature of the league these days.

I got him at the #21 pick in my rookie/free agent draft and was really happy. I think he'll be the starter in Miami by the first game of 2013, maybe sooner. Bush will get injured or leave. Thomas is not starter material.

I'd buy wherever you can.

Nothin but good things. Showed up to camp in good shape with a good attitude. Was told he needed to turn himself into a pass blocker and was later complimented for his pass blocking by Philbin. Had shown great burst and good hands receiving in the games. Showing no ill effects from shoulder surgery. I dont know if he's worth a roster spot in redraft but in dynasty i think he's a great buy right now. This guy was rated behind Trent until he hurt his shoulder, easy first round talent, and he's behind an aging Reggie Bush and a lackluster Daniel Thomas. Miller could be a homerun threat 3 down back, and there aren't many of those guys left in the league.

I was happy to draft Miller in all three of my dynasty drafts. 1st round talent with a relatively clear path to the starting gig in 1-2 years.
