It is a huge game for the Falcons -- a HTH against a possible wild card rival in the Giants. If Turner is even 60%, he'll play. Whether he'd run effectively is another story altogether -- Boldin looked like hell when he tried to play through his HAS.Roddy White expects him to play this week:
“Mike’s a warrior,” White said. “Ignore the injury report. Mike is going to be playing Sunday.”
I posted more as a joke. I would be shocked if he played this week and I know I won't play him. I'd rather he sit out 1 game and play 6 than play 7 at less than beast mode.It is a huge game for the Falcons -- a HTH against a possible wild card rival in the Giants. There are few things of less value than responding to comments that have no value with a sarcastic retort. So without further adieu:"Thanks for the update Chris. Please let us know every tedious detail of your existence. Failing that do you have a Twitter account that we can all follow?"8-2, 2 game lead over 2nd and somehow my team is top point scorer. I don't think that is a bad sign. I don't think anybody really thought Turner would play this week, and Norwood has been out for a month. They need someone to backup Snelling incase Norwood is a no go again or isn't completely healthy. The fact they resigned Stecker isnt a good sign either.

I'd temper those expectations coming off a bye week and having to play in the Meadowlands. Homerism aside, I think the Giants could be a very tough match up for a one-dimensional Atlanta offense against a QB who isn't really protecting the football.Matty Ice and Roddy White are going to get to know each other at the expense of the Giants secondary this weekend..Sprinkle in some Gonzalez ( because it appears that the Giants can't cover the TE)

I'd post the link, but 99% would ignore and keep posting speculation...Saw an MFL link, I think it was from the Atlanta Constitution, saying Mike Smith said, "He will play again in 2009." That's not good news if taken at face value in that it could be several weeks.
ETA: source = Tuesday's AJCWith Michael Turner's availability unknown, the Falcons will continue to shuffle their cards at running back.
With Turner facing possible downtime with a high right ankle sprain, the Falcons are ready to welcome back his backup, Jerious Norwood, who's missed the last four games with a right hip flexor, coach Mike Smith said on Monday.
Turner underwent a battery of tests on Monday and the team was guarded about the results. The team is not required to release an official report on his status until Wednesday, but high ankle sprains usually take four to six weeks to heal.
Earlier in his career, Turner recovered from one much sooner that expected. Not that the team wanted to discuss it.
"We're not going to give a competitive advantage to our next opponent on Monday afternoon," Smith said.
But the coach did say that the injury was not a season-ending one.
"I'm very confident that Michael Turner will play in 2009," Smith said.
Late Monday, the Falcons re-signed running back Aaron Stecker, who was released by the team on Saturday. The team released recenlty added wide receiver Troy Bergeron to make room on the roster.
Stecker has 383 carries for 1,517 yards and eight touchdowns in 10 NFL season.
Regardless, some teammates are holding out hope that Turner will try to play against the New York Giants on Sunday.
"Mike is a warrior," wide receiver Roddy White said. "Mike is playing. He's playing on Sunday. You best believe it. Ignore the injury report."
Norwood, who has carried the ball only 19 times this season, is close to returning. He started running last week.
But timing is an issue. The Falcons (5-4) are heading into the most rugged stretch of their schedule with three of four games against playoff contenders: the N.Y. Giants, Philadelphia and New Orleans. Losing Turner for any games will be costly for the offense.
After a slow start, Turner had reached full stride, rushing for 428 yards over his last three games while averaging 9.1 yards per carry. He has 10 rushing touchdowns and was on pace to break the franchise record of 17 that he set last season.
Turner was injured Sunday on a 10-yard run in the second quarter when Carolina cornerback Chris Gamble crashed into his right leg on a low tackle.
"Afterward, he was moving around pretty good [in a boot]," Smith said. "We'll know more on Wednesday in terms of where he's going to be."
If Turner is unable to go against the Giants, Jason Snelling and Norwood would split his carries. Snelling had 18 carries for 61 yards against the Panthers.
"Definitely, I'm going to come in and prepare to do what I have to do, whatever the situation is," Snelling said. "I have to get ready. If Mike is out or whatever the situation is, I'll be ready to go."
While White is hopeful that Turner will play, he also knows the offense will look much different, especially in the red zone.
"We are going to miss the big guy on the goal line," White said. "He can punch it in real easy."
Turner rushed for 1,799 yards last season to help the Falcons reach the playoffs. He has 831 yards rushing on 165 carries this year.
"We need that guy," White said. "He's special. He's our MVP. As long as we've got him, the offense kind of rolls smoothly."
Thanks, BL. Good stuff, lol. I think he will sit out, unless he really is feeling that good. I saw what Gore did, no need to take a chance if it sidelines him for an extended period. It doesn't sound like a bad injury, but who knows?I'd rather him sit for a couple weeks and be ready for the playoffs - but that's because I'm selfish and have locked up a spot. Would like that first round bye though.Love the juxtaposition:
RotoWire: Michael Turner: Won't Rule Himself Out
RotoWorld: Michael Turner: Michael Turner will not play against Giants

Nothing definitive either way, but my gut instinct is he sits this week and gives it a go Week 12.

See: Boldin, Anquan for recent player experiences/performance expectations/healing times.I am by no means a doctor, but sans hard facts it would seem to be a good comparison. Is a high ankle sprain a situation with a higher than average risk of re-injury if a player returns too early?
Giants are a tough, physical match-up anyways...I would liek to see him sit and come back next week healthier.Mike Francesa had Tony Gonzalez on yesterday afternoon. Early in the interview Tony said "with Mike out this week: etc. Later in the interview he back tracked saying if Mike can't go. I'm a Turner owner but can't see him playing this week..
wowRoddy White expects him to play this week: “Mike’s a warrior,” White said. “Ignore the injury report. Mike is going to be playing Sunday.”
100% would have to agree. From all the Atl pressers I've read he is sitting. But the fact that he is feeling better than typical HAS cases is likely a good sign. Rest up, big fella.I'll go on record as saying no way in hell he plays this week. Jury still out for week 12. Every report out of Atlanta media assumes that he will be out.
I'd really like to hear about the free agent acquisitions he ALMOST made with full analysis.Pleeze list full draft results8-2, 2 game lead over 2nd and somehow my team is top point scorer. since a ankle can be MASSIVELY taped, it usually is a pain tolerance thing. IMHO his injury history does play into that.Yeah, gonna be a wait and see. My take is the Strecker signing means nothing except they wanted to get him back (think they released him Saturday) as a just-in-case. They didn't have a medical opinion when they signed him.Between Norwood's two concussions in preseason and mid-September, then the hip injury, and knowing he's only been running a little over a week, Smith probably figures he can't rely too heavily on Jerious. No sense speculating on the Burner until we know more. He has a history of being a quick healer, but that is irrelevant to this particular injury. He was walking around, and we haven't heard anything that would indicate it is worse than we thought (e.g., sometimes a high ankle sprain is later diagnosed as an MCL injury)...but we also don't have any reason to think he will be able to go this week other than Roddy White speculating.
since he's not with the falcons, I think this is splitting hairs on word choicage.Mike Francesa had Tony Gonzalez on yesterday afternoon. It's cuz he's a white guy who is smooth and cool (ICE) under pressure. Kinda like NATTY Ice....His first day in the lockerroom some of the veternas (IIRC Gandy, but not sure) were bustig on him for the MEGADEAL he got saying "so when you gonna pay some back, put in a system etc, but just in good natured ribbing. Falcons' Turner hopes to return soon
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
FLOWERY BRANCH – Falcons running back Michael Turner has been receiving continued treatment for his right high ankle sprain, but he remains uncertain how close he is to returning to action.
"I'm just taking it easy right now and hoping for the best," Turner said Monday.
The team's leading rushing, Turner didn't play against the New York Giants on Sunday, nor did he test the injury, suffered against Carolina on Nov.15, by running on the field before the game.
"We didn't get that far," Turner said.
Jason Snelling, who filled in for Turner, is likely to do so again Sunday against Tampa Bay. But Turner doesn't want to rule himself out yet.
"It's an ankle sprain," Turner said. "These injuries are kind of like funny. Some guys take six weeks to bounce back, but I don't think I'll take that long. I'm just trying to get back to my normal self again."
While playing at Northern Illinois in 2001, Turner suffered a sprained left ankle and missed only one game. But he couldn't compare the two injuries.
"In ‘01, I can't remember that far back," Turner said, laughing. "They don't ever tell you exactly. They just project how long you can be out. It's not you're definitely out this amount of time because it's a sprain. It could easily heal back faster than expected."
Snelling had two rushing touchdowns and 89 total yards. He had 25 carries for 76 yards and three catches for 13 yards.
"Jason did good," Turner said. "He made some nice runs, had some nice blocks. He was doing whatever it takes to get the job done."
Turner received treatment on the ankle after the game, but admits it was tough watching from the sidelines.
"You want to be out there helping your teammates out," Turner said. "It's something that we've spent all season fighting for, a playoff spot."
Yep, that made the papers. Don't know about the white guy part, but that is how the name came to be. He's had some happy feet recently, but I saw something that I"ve been looking for against the Giants. He's stepping INTO the pocket, instead of scrambling out of the pocket, and he was much better all around. Now, if we had a secondary that could recognize an opponent's jersey, we'd be dangerous.
