Michael Vick Bandwagon rolling like a freight train (2 Viewers)

Vick will start ONE week and ONLY one week unless Kolb is hurt again. So this train wont be going very far unless that happens. Philly did not trade McNabb to a rival and give Kolb a raise to NOT play him. Vick did look OK but he still has the worst accuracy on any NFL QB and the Philly offense requires a fairly accurate passer. This post will have more life come 2011.
That and the fact that Vick looked far better than Kolb when they were in. Vick is hungry. The kind of hungry you get from sitting in prison. Once he shows what he can do it'll be hard to get him off the field.
No it won't. Reid will insert Kolb back into the starting lineup as soon as possible regardless of what Vick accomplishes on any given weekend.
thanks. we'll keep this in mind.

Looks like we gonna need some more coal!

Somebody give Kolb a shovel to stoke an engine....

Philly flip-flop: Michael Vick is the starter

AUDIO: Surprise! Vick named starter for Eagles

By Sean Greene

Updated Tuesday, September 21, 2010 - 7:23pm

One day after saying Kevin Kolb would start, Eagles head coach Andy Reid has changed his mind, and will start Michael Vick against Jacksonville on Sunday.

Reid says Vick's "accelerated play" forced the decision to go with Vick, also adding that Kolb can still be a "franchise quarterback" in the future for the Eagles. He also believes this gives Kolb an opportunity to continue a "maturation process" by watching as opposed to playing.

Vick threw for 175 yards and one touchdown and ran for 103 yards in the 27-20 season-opening loss to the Packers. He had 284 yards passing and two TDs in a 35-32 win at Detroit on Sunday. He is currently 4th in the NFL in passer rating.

Kolb started two games in his first three seasons before he became the team's No. 1 quarterback after Donovan McNabb was traded to Washington. Kolb struggled in the first half against Green Bay.

go to 5:30 for this exchange.

If Nick struggles will you go to kolb?Michael Vick is the starting QB for the philly eagles. How does this hurt Kolbs development.I actually think this helps Kevin Kolbs maturation process. It allows him to continue to learn. This comes back to Michael Vicks play. He's the #4 rated QB in the NFL right now.

Pretty solid week 2. But looks like Kolb is gonna play. IF he is ineffective... look out. Vick looked awesome and ran the eagles offense too, not merely the 'vivk' offense.

Vick takes seat as Reid picks Kolb to start

The Denver Post and wire services

Posted: 09/21/2010 01:00:00 AM MDT

PHILADELPHIA — Eagles coach Andy Reid said Kevin Kolb will be the starting quarterback at Jacksonville on Sunday, despite two impressive performances by Michael Vick.

Kolb has been cleared to practice after missing the second half of a season-opening loss to Green Bay and Sunday's win over Detroit because of a concussion. He will start unless he has a setback this week.

Vick still will play in Philadelphia's version of the wildcat offense.

"I think it's a beautiful situation," Reid said Monday. "I look at it a lot differently than other people look at it. I've got two quarterbacks that can play at a very important position. I'm a happy guy about it. There are a lot of teams that don't have good quarterbacks, ones that they feel like they can win with, and I feel like we can with both of those guys."

Vick wasn't the only quarterback involved in a reshuffling. But unlike the Eagles, the Panthers and Bills are making changes because their starters played poorly.

Rookie Jimmy Clausen will start over Matt Moore when the Panthers (0-2) play the Bengals on Sunday, and Ryan Fitzpatrick takes over for Trent Edwards when the Bills (0-2) visit the Patriots.

On Sunday, Oakland's Jason Campbell was benched in favor of Bruce Gradkowski, who led the Raiders to a 16-14 win over St. Louis, and Sunday's starter against Arizona has not been announced.

"There isn't going to be a controversy," Raiders coach Tom Cable said. "I'll make a good decision, the right decision, and we'll go from there."

Cable said he will wait until Wednesday before revealing his decision.

Hall plans to do it his way

WASHINGTON — Frustrated about late defensive breakdowns during Sunday's 30-27 overtime loss to the Texans, Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall said he plans to follow the opponent's top receiver regardless of which side of the field the wide receiver is on.

And Hall said defensive coordinator Jim Haslett's opinion on the subject was not of great importance to him.

"Don't matter what he say. This is my team; this is my defense," Hall said. "So I'm going to follow the receiver around. That's what I'm going to do."

Later in the day, Hall said he respects Haslett and did not mean to appear critical about his role on the team. He also said he was not upset about Haslett's scheme or his teammates' performance in the loss to the Texans.

Footnotes.

The Steelers aren't saying yet how long quarterback Dennis Dixon will be out with a left knee injury, a problem that typically sidelines a player for multiple games.

• Browns center Alex Mack accused Chiefs defensive lineman Shaun Smith of grabbing his private parts during Sunday's game.

• Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis has a strained left hamstring, but he would not rule himself out of Sunday night's game at Miami.

• Rams tight end Billy Bajema will be sidelined two to four weeks with a knee injury, and defensive lineman Darell Scott has a high ankle sprain that also could put him out as long as a month.

• Cowboys tight end Jason Witten (concussion) said he feels fine and expects to play this weekend at Houston.

• Jaguars backup quarterback Luke McCown will miss the rest of the season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee late in Sunday's loss to the Chargers.

Now who's gonna start sending me a little commission on all those 'top scorer of the week kitties"

The funniest thing was while everyone and their mother was unloading ALL their free agency money on brandon 'freaking' jackson, Vick went for a buck, to as high as 1/3 of FA Cap most everywhere. I bet every BJ owner was just watching Vick score at will today with a little pit in their stomach. Oh well there's always next weeks free agency... for us!

A bit of an abbreviated column this week. Instead, I’ll have a few pieces later in the day covering some of the left-over storylines from the third Sunday of the 2010 NFL season. In the meantime, here are three stories from the day that was:

Three weeks in, Michael might be the NFL’s most valuable player

Vick had another jaw-dropping performance in an easy win over the Jaguars.

Three games in, he’s completing 60.7 percent of his passes. His career high for a full season: 56.4 percent.

He’s got six touchdown passes; zero interceptions. He’s yet to lose a fumble. That’s zero turnovers for a guy who turned it over 72 times in 74 games in a previous life with the Atlanta Falcons.

The difference between Vick 1.0 and Vick 2.0: maturity (and don’t assume his time in the slammer wasn’t a massive contributing factor), and his peer support.

Vick did not have the support system in Atlanta that he has in Philadelphia. Andy Reid is a coach who can be trusted on a human level. He made an effort to reach out to Vick last summer, and the two clearly have a large amount of mutual respect for each other. Kevin Kolb has become a good friend, as have most of his Eagle teammates.

Vick has also never had on-field support like he has right now. DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin are turning into the best young receiver duo in the league. Combine those two with LeSean McCoy and Vick in the offensive backfield and the Eagles might have the fastest offence in the game.

Can the Giants keep up? Do the Cowboys have a strong enough back end to hold Jackson and Maclin if their superb pass rush isn’t able to get ahold of the evasive Vick? Suddenly, the Eagles are a matchup nightmare in the NFC East.

Suddenly, Michael Vick has changed the entire outlook of the NFC. For that reason, he has to be considered a top candidate in the MVP race early on.

Fwiw Reid says when healthy Vick is still the starter

Eagles QB Michael Vick (rib) will start as soon as he is healthy enough to play despite Kevin Kolb's impressive play. He completed 21 of 31 passes for 253 yards and one touchdown in Week 5. "Michael is still starting quarterback, so we won't get that controversy going there. That's what it is," coach Andy Reid said after the Week 5 win over San Francisco. (Updated 10/11/2010).AnalysisKeep in mind the fact that Reid did the exact same thing after Week 1 when Kolb got hurt. He then turned to Vick as his starter. We will keep you posted on Vick's rib injury throughout the week. When healthy, Vick remains a No. 1 Fantasy QB.

Glazer says "vicks a longshot" with apparently little to go one. Might help one aquire Mr Vick from a panicking owner?

I personally think he plays this week. I mean a chance to take down the falcons? Nothing here but my gut, but I say he plays. See Glazer, I can do it too!

http://network.yardbarker.com/nfl/article_...er_team/3401772

Vick "A Long Shot" to Play Against Former Team

If you take your news from a guy who looks like an extra in the Pirates of Penzance -- and you do -- then you'll be disappointed to learn Fox's Jay Glazer has announced Michael Vick is "a long shot" to play Sunday against his former team, the Falcons.

Of course, Glazer followed that with, "Remember, they play Atlanta next week, and Michael said, 'I'm gonna play in that game.' And one guy there said, 'Hey, if there's one guy tough enough, who may be able to do it, it's Vick.'"

So, basically, Michael Vick has a rib cartilate injury, Jay Glazer doesn't know for sure either way, and he's citing one guy somewhere. What we do know is that sports commentary looks even more dumb written out, and Glazer's first assertation of Vick's health is probably the accurate one. Isn't that disappointing.

Not, mind you, that we wanted to have any Favreian revenge stories trumped up and hammered into our skulls until saved by the mute button. But because we sort of imagine Mike Vick like a cartoon superhero, and hoped to see him unleash a hell against the Falcons that would swiftly turn the Atlanta defense into a delicous pudding on the field.

Mmmm....pudding. Also, it's crucial Philly win this one, and Vick gives the Eagles the best chance of that.

On the bright side, though, if the Eagles can get through Sunday without him, Vick'll get a bye week to continue recovering before they take on an even worse portion of the schedule: the Colts, Redskins, Giants, and Bears round out November, followed by tough matchups against the Texans, Giants, Cowboys, and Vikings.

Considering the Eagles' slow start, they're going to want Vick -- and his ribs -- for more than a few of those.

How much you wanna bet that this is the report that Glazer is basing his call on?

http://espn.go.com/sports/fantasy/blog/_/n...-5-key-injuries

• Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy did not appear to be hindered much by his rib fracture when he put up 92 rushing yards on the San Francisco 49ers. Given his performance and the fact that he came out of the game feeling good, expect McCoy to be in the lineup for Week 6. It's too soon to say much of anything about McCoy's teammate Michael Vick, who is dealing with a rib cartilage injury. Given that rest is the best medicine, it's hard to accelerate the healing process for Vick and it is an exceptionally painful injury. It would not be a surprise if he is out this week again.
It sounds like it is basically a pain threshold deal. Isn't that what cortizone/painkillers are for? If it's simply a pain tolerance (and not a pain extreme hindrance ala brett favre 2008) I imagine the desire and will to play (especially vs his team that cut him loose/'abandoned him') should allow him to suit up.

intresting. But it starts next week?

Michael Vick to appear weekly on Hampton Roads ESPN Radio

Michael Vick will appear each Monday afternoon for the remainder of the NFL season on ESPN Radio's Hampton Roads affiliate, 94.1 FM.

Tony Mercurio, on whose drive-time show Vick will appear, announced the segment Tuesday.

"I approached Vick about this and he quickly accepted," Mercurio said in a press release. "Michael was on with me the other day and he did an outstanding job."

A former Warwick High and Virginia Tech star, Vick became the Philadelphia Eagles' starting quarterback this season before a rib injury forced him to miss Sunday's win over the San Francisco 49ers.

"We will start at 5:05 and will run around 10 minutes and maybe as long as 15 minutes," Mercurio said. "The content is all up to Michael."

Dont look for Vick to play this week either. Kolb is being prepared to be the starter, the team just hasn't announced it yet. Vick is still very sore.

If Kolb has another very good game Vick's going to be out that much longer. They didn't trade away McNabb to see what they had in Vick...and Kolb didn't get the luxury of playing Detroit and Jacksonville.

Eagles coach Andy Reid said Wednesday that QB Michael Vick (rib) is doing some lifting, but hasn't begun throwing yet. He is considered day-to-day. (Updated 10/13/2010).AnalysisQB Kevin Kolb took all the first-team reps on Wednesday and will likely start on Sunday against the Falcons unless Vick makes a miraculous recovery over the next few days. Continue to stash Vick away in all Fantasy formats and just hope that he regains his starting job once he's back healthy.

VICK MAKING PROGRESS BUT STILL LONG WAY FROM STARTINGby Tim McManus on Oct 13, 2010 | 0 commentsMichael Vick would surely love to be back on the field Sunday to face his former team and has made strides in his recovery from injured ribs. He was unable to practice on Wednesday, however, and will need to come along quickly if he has any shot at suiting up.“He had swelling on the right side more than on the left, where the actual crack was,” coach Andy Reid said of the cartilage damage to Vick’s ribs. “That swelling has gone down. But I can’t tell you that he is pain free – he still has pain. He started lifting light weight; he hasn’t thrown. But he’s made big jumps here, big strides over the last few days.”“We’ll just see how he progresses this week. It’s a day-to-day thing.”Kolb played well in Vick’s absence last week in San Francisco, going 21-for-31 for 253 yards and a touchdown. Reid was asked if Kolb’s productivity will allow for the Eagles to be more patient with Vick’s recovery.“We don’t do that,” said Reid. “If a guy is going to be able to play, then he can play. It doesn’t matter who’s in there. We don’t force guys out there – you do that and then they get something else hurt. You’re better off making sure they can take care of themselves, be able to play and not re-injure [themselves].”While Reid did not rule out the possibility of Vick starting without practicing this week, he made it clear that he would lean towards giving Kolb the start under that scenario. Kolb got all the reps at Wednesday’s practice.Follow Tim McManus on Twitter (@Tim_McManus) and contact him at tmcmanus@phillysportsdaily.com.

Interesting situation - you got to think Vick is going to push hard to play this week - first playing Atlanta is big and second if Kolb has another good game he could find himself back on the bench....

Updating a previous item, Michael Vick (ribs) insisted Wednesday that he has indeed resumed throwing.

"I got the motion back," said Vick, who didn't participate in Wednesday's practice. Both Vick and coach Andy Reid wouldn't rule the injured quarterback out for Week 6 on Wednesday. Kevin Kolb remains likely to take all the first-team practice reps on Thursday and Friday, and start against Falcons.

The Eagles offense looks stuck in mud with Kolb playing, Reid is no fool.

i see no reason to think he will play until after the bye. pure speculation on my part, of course, but ... i wouldn't risk it.

bweiser said:

risk what? people dont understand this injury. it's more about pain threshhold.

Eagles QB Michael Vick (rib) returned to practice Friday for the first time since hurting himself in Week 4. QB Kevin Kolb was the first to take snaps with the first-team offense, however. Whoever starts in Week 6 will have to deal with a Falcons' defense that leads the NFL with 10 interceptions while collecting three fumbles and holding opposing QBs to a 72.5 rating. (Updated 10/15/2010).AnalysisVick isn't likely to start in Week 6, as the Eagles will want him to be at least close to full health before they allow him back on the field again as one hard hit could knock him out for even longer. If he somehow gets this start, it would be the first against his former team. He saw limited action in his first meeting versus Atlanta (4-1) last December, as the Eagles won 34-7 on the road. Despite only throwing two passes for 48 yards, Vick tossed a TD pass and ran for another score. Reid has confirmed that Vick will resume starting once he's ready to go, but because the Eagles have a bye in Week 8, they could opt to sit out Vick this week and next. He was performing like a top-five Fantasy QB before getting injured, so you should keep him stashed. He's clearly too much of a risk for this week, though.

THE QUESTIONS remain, which was why they were asked again yesterday.

If Kevin Kolb adds to the luster of his last two starts with another impressive performance Sunday at Tennessee, could Kolb possibly get back the starting job? The one he lost when Michael Vick played well for a game and a half, after Kolb suffered a concussion in the season opener?

Andy Reid has been asked this several times now - after Sunday's impressive, 31-17 Eagles victory over Atlanta, on Monday, and again yesterday. Reid, who confirmed Kolb definitely will start again, as Vick recovers from a rib-cartilage injury, still hasn't given anything close to a "yes" or "no" answer.

"I haven't even thought about that," Reid said yesterday. "We're worried about Tennessee right now and we're not worried about starting jobs. You guys can worry about all that. We're worried right now about trying to put together a game plan, learn the game plan and execute the game plan. That's what I think Kevin is focused in on; that's what we're focused in on as coaches."

Michael Vick or Kevin Kolb? Eagles coach Andy Reid has another QB decision to make

09:06 PM

Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid said that Michael Vick would remain his starting QB even after Kevin Kolb sparked the club to a second straight win -- a 31-17 rout of the Falcons -- on Sunday.

But Kolb may have made the decision on whom to start more difficult for Reid, who for the second time this season has seen his backup QB play lights-out in relief of an injured starter. Kolb went 23-for-29 for 326 yards, three TD passes and an INT on Sunday, and has completed more than 73% of his passes in two starts since Vick was hurt in Week 4.

"This is a beautiful thing," Reid said. "When you're sitting here as a chubby head coach in the National Football League, and you have two good quarterbacks, you're a happy guy. That's a positive thing."

Pressed on whom he would start when both QBs are healthy, Reid committed -- publicly -- to Vick. "Yes, he's the starting quarterback," Reid said.

But Reid said the same thing about Kolb after Week 2, when Vick led the Eagles to a 35-32 win in Detroit in his first start in relief of Kolb -- who opened the season as a starter before suffering a concussion in Week 1. One day later, Reid named Vick the starter, where he remained until injuring his ribs in Week 4. (Reid also said publicly in the spring that Donovan McNabb would be the Eagles' starter this season -- and then traded the Pro Bowler to Washington.)

When he declared him the starter in Week 2, Reid said Vick was playing as well as any QB in the NFL. One could make a similar case that Kolb is now playing on that level.

Kolb wasn't lobbying for the job after the game, and said he'd trust Reid to make the best call. "I want to be out there," he said. "I trust Andy to make the right decision for everybody and we believe in that."

The Eagles go to Tennessee next week. On Sunday, Reid wasn't giving any hints about what QB decision he'd make.

"It's a crazy thing, isn't it?" he said. "I might have all kinds of surprises. That's what's so great about it. Enjoy it.".

Your post is from Reid's post-game presser Sunday. Your link doesn't go to that story. What I posted is Reid's comments from yesterday (Wed.) and he wouldn't answer the question.

Has anyone cooled this jetstream by pointing out Kolb has been a better qb this year despite facing tougher opponents?
I've mentioned in other threads that Kolb has a better completion %, for more yards and fewer sacks in the same number of games played. I believe KK has 2 ints and Vick has none.

vick crushes him y/a and any/a. kolbs sack rate of 7.9% is atrocious. vicks is high too, but running qbs always have higher sack rates. also, none of these per pass attempt stats, including sack rate, take into acct rushing yards, which vick has done well with.

Vick's sack rate is 10.3%. I won't say Kolb has outplayed Vick, but he's been pretty good. In 5 career starts, Kolb has been named the NFC offensive player of the week twice.AR could have put an end to the entire debate yesterday by declaring Vick his starter when he comes back healthy. He didn't. He clearly sidestepped the issue.

I've never been a fan of Vick in the past because I didn't feel he had any touch and *couldn't* be a pocket passer but he looks incredible this season. Kolb looked nice last week but IMO Vick was playing at an entirely different level and presents so much more of a challenge for opposing defenses.

Michael Vick, QB PHINews: Eagles QB Michael Vick on whether he can throw the ball at 100 percent: "Yeah, I can throw the ball. I can throw at full strength and effectively." Vick was also asked whether he expects to be starting QB after next week's bye: "That's Andy's decision. Whatever my role is, whatever I'm asked to do, I'll do it. I've been on both sides of the fence and I'm a total team player."Analysis: Vick might be listed as the backup QB in Week 7 against the Titans and could see a little action on the field behind Kevin Kolb if Andy Reid decides to mix things up a bit. The Eagles are off in Week 8, so Reid will have extra time to decide on his starting QB once both Vick and Kolb are healthy. For now, continue to stash Vick away in all Fantasy formats.
probably not fully healed yet, but being able to throw at 100% is a nice improvement.

This is the right answer. One doesn't have to think Kevin Kolb 'sucks' to know that when healthy Michael Vick is the best qb on this team. When he went down he was playing like one of the better quarterbacks in the league. Look what he did to the detroit defense, that has actually been pretty decent this year. He hung 45 on em. The giants at home hung 28 on em. The rams who have been actually pretty good on offense mustered 7 pts. Don't fault him for annihilating opposing d's. Can you imagine the game Vick would've had against that hapless 49ers squad?

Coach Reid says Vick is still his starterMichael Vick - QB - Philadelphia EaglesMore team newsOct. 17, 2010 - 4:45 PM ETDespite Sunday's impressive performance by Kevin Kolb, coach Andy Reid said that Michael Vick remains his starting quarterback.Vick is still nursing those injured ribs and is questionable for Week 7 at this point. There's no reason to rush with Kolb playing at a very high level. The Eagles have a bye in Week 8, so we wouldn't be surprised at all if Kolb gets the nod next week. And knowing Reid, we can't be certain that Vick will get his job back if Kolb succeeds again. Both quarterbacks should be rostered in fantasy until we know more.Source: Jeff McLane on Twitter

andy reid injury presser. 10-22-10

1st two minutes mostly about Vick. Seems more limited than Vick is saying to the media (prolly the competitor in him wanting to play now) But pretty clear (especially when playing the Titans) that Reid wants to rest Vick this week, and the bye. But he did say that he was 'fairly confident that Vick should be 100% healed after the bye fwiw.

But wouldn't name the the starter. He didn't want to get into all that.

 at 5:30 when talking about how tough the Titans D line is he talks about how vanden bosch's speed needs to be taken into account. :D

and you've been preparing for these guys for a week?

Is Andy starting to lose it? He snidely responds to a reporter for asking 'you mean the same question he just asked?" (and was incorrect as it was a completely different question) at 10:47. :goodposting:

kolbs performance against the falcons which youve ignored for some reason (???) was more impressive than anything vick has done this yearalso it was 35 against the lions not 45 lol. not that i need to really correct u cause u are obviously not taking an objective look at the two QBs with this ridiculous post of yours.

I'm starting to believe Kolb will start after the bye. A lot of friends/Eagles fans disagree and think Reid will go back to Vick. IDK. Maybe because I'm a Vick owner I'm being pessimistic.

I've never been a fan of Vick in the past because I didn't feel he had any touch and *couldn't* be a pocket passer but he looks incredible this season. Kolb looked nice last week but IMO Vick was playing at an entirely different level and presents so much more of a challenge for opposing defenses.
:wall: Detroit is 19th against the pass this year. The 49ers are 11th.And let's not forget that Brent Celek dropped two long passes (one of which would have been a touchdown) in that 9ers game.
