Not a colts or eagles fan, but man was it just me or did every single call go the way of the Colts offense? People talked about the Brady rules, but how about the Manning rules? That penalty when manning got slapped on the helmet was terrible. How many times did the zebras bail him out on sunday?

Absolutely. The league has a vested interested in letting the golden boy led QBs win, but it wasn't enough. Vick is just scary good right now. I think he had more passing yards than Manning until that last drive.

It was comedy seeing Indy try to stop the back to back reverses to DJax with less then 2 mins left, thought it was over. Then colts once again get bailed by the refs, amazing.

:coffee: There were a lot of eyelashes batted. A not-insignificant number of fans swore off the team. Animal rights groups were somewhat mollified by an aggressive passification strategy employed by Vick, the Eagles, and Dungy...but were NOT completely silent at the beginning.
There was hardly a whimper by anyone once the season started. The whole outrage thing turned out to be internet talk and not much more.

Guess you missed last year when he first arrived. It was a frenzy for most of the season. Still hear people on talk radio today that swear they will never watch the eagles again and have sold their season tickets. Trust me, there was backlash.

Pregame, 7:18 p.m. Protesters were as rare as the ivory-billed woodpecker before Michael Vick made his debut with the Eagles on Thursday night.

Reid didn't wait long to use Vick. The three-time Pro Bowl quarterback jogged onto the field for the second play from scrimmage and got a hearty welcome from the notoriously tough Philly fans. "I was proud of everybody. It was nice to see," Reid said. So much for all those protesters and anti-Vick factions.

Before the game, a group of about 25 protesters gathered at the northeast entrance to the stadium, holding signs saying, "Vick is sick" and "Ethics over athletics." As fans walked by, some began chanting Vick's name and a few shouted insults at the protesters or yelled at them to go home.

30 protesters

It was a whimper. Almost nothing.

Peyton has a lot he can learn from Vick. Resilience is one of those things. I don't care how tough it gets in an NFL game, Vick has gone from prison to the very top of the NFL quarterbacking food chain in 18 months. Peyton was born with a golden arm, a golden pedigree and with everyone he ever met rooting for his success. He's not a self-made man like Vick is.
Vick has been blessed with more gifted athleticism and arguably a better arm (depending on your definition) than Peyton. His upbringing may have been very different, and he's made mistakes in his life that Peyton hasn't so your comment about being resiliant is still valid, but don't try to play off that Peyton has done less with more physically.
Please. When have you ever seen Vick wear a Manning Face? That's beneath Vick. He's a competitor.

Ummm, Vick played the Indy defense. Manning played the Eagles defense. This thread is irrational and immature.
Exactly. Manning has faced the Texans pass defense twice already as well as the Jags and Broncos. Vick's starts include the Freeney/Mathis's, Suhs, Abrahams, Orakpos and Matthews. Hardly fair to compare based on schedules when one guy has played 4 games against 3 of the worst defenses in the league. This will likely even itself out somewhat over the course of the season but it's tough to ignore that Manning's team is struggling to make the playoffs in a division where 2 of the leagues worst pass defenses reside and Vick has a rebuikding Eagles amongst the league leaders in the NFC despite missing time.

So put another way, he had less passing yards than Manning?

Yeah, he didn't throw the ball 51 times. Still more yards though cause Vick is electric and can scramble for 30 yards on 3rd and 5, not so one-dimensional. Doesn't need the touches Manning does to produce.

Ok, defensive much? Manning is a far better football player than Vick.

Manning is better, but I wouldn't say far better at this point.

Who's defensive? The guy actually using real analysis and presenting it, or someone who's simplistically defending the big name with superficial analysis like total passing yards without mentioning a big number of passing attempts? Sorry man, but there's a new Sheriff in Rock Ridge. It's too bad if he doesn't fit your image of a great QB.

Manning is a much better QB, Vick is a better football player.

Vick beat him in the passing game. This was a head to head matchup of QBs similar to Elway - Montana and Manning came up way short. Might as well have had Trent Dilfer out there to throw 2 INTs. 65.7 passer rating v 93.7. Anyone trying to suggest Manning was better in any way is just fishing at this point.

:headbang: This is like someone saying Angel Eyes is the better gunfighter when The Man With No Name is standing over his corpse.

If I need to win a game tomorrow...or yesterday...or even today, I am taking Peyton Manning over Michael Vick and I won't waste more than 1 second making a decision.

The critical issue in that game was that Hillis >>>> BJGENice try though.
No, most definitely the running game has no impact on QBs per this thread. Therefore McCoy >>>> Brady, especially since the Browns won by a much larger margin.
Vick outproduced the Colts running game by himself.
Thank you for proving the point.

Right, that Vick's a better overall QB than Manning and he outplayed him. Manning has two left feet.

After all the hate he's been undeservedly given over the years,
He was vilified while in Atlanta. They had revolving doors for coaches and receivers while he was there, and he was still winning games and leading his team deep into the playoffs. His receivers dropped balls left and right, but the blame was placed at his feet b/c he throws "an uncatchable ball". Looks like DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin and LeSean McCoy don't have any trouble catching his balls.
In fairness being out of the league (and more importantly in federal prison) provided him the motivation to actually hone and improve his game (and properly prepare) rather than wing it and just usually get it done even if replete with poorly thrown balls and ill conceived plays. But regardless of mvp, he's playing the best (and certainly most FF friendly) QB around.

I think you may be the slow one.. It's been made abundantly clear that the OP was referring to Ben :lmao:I just don't understand how it's pathetic to bring up 2 cases of manslaughter and talk about how much little publicity and public backlash they recieved when compared to Vick.
Vick received backlash because a large number of Americans have an aversion to cruelty to animals, especially to man's best friend. What is extraordinary about Vick is not the initial reaction he received but the fact that we are so willing as a society to forgive him so easily and move on. I would not have bet this was possible- I thought that animal rights groups and a good number of fans would protest and boycott any team that gave him a roster spot. I figured he would be persona non grata. But I was wrong, nobody batted an eyelash.
We have an aversion to cruelty directed towards man's best friend, but not towards man himself. How rational.
Its a natural human tendency to protect things we perceive as unable to protect themselves. Alot of pets such as cats and dogs, we see as vulnerable and unable to protect themselves much like children. An adult human is perceived as being fully capable of protecting his or her self. It doesn't make it right or wrong, thats just how many people see the situation. So thats why people get fantaical about treating animals inhumanely but are blaise when an adult human is killed.
That's just down right stupid. An animal is worth about a hair off a human ###. These same idiots who are worried about dogs are munching down hamburgers and eating chicken wings. Somehow dog fighting is so inhumane that you must throw someone in jail for life, but lining up cattle one by one and sticking electric rods up their asses in order to kill them for food is A OK! Killing a cat is punishable by death, but forcing ten thousand chickens to live in a 5x5 box until they are efficiently killed so they can magically appear on your dinner plate, now that's A OK.

In American society we have deemed cats and dogs as pets while Cattle and poultry are food. If you goto China where they eat cats, you would have a different perception. Again its perception. People don't like to see or hear about animals being hurt. People generally don't have to see or hear about cows and chickens being slaughtered for dinner. The other aspect is that people can overlook those things since it serves a purpose for society while dog fighting does not. There are people that are just as fanatical about dog racing and horse racing as they are about dog fighting. Its all in one person's perspective. Of course those that go that far also have a problem with eating meat in general. Plus if you can't see the difference between using livestock for food and brutally murdering a cat or dog, then there's something wrong with you.

i dont get it....whats all the fuss about? nobody is saying that Vick is better than Peyton Manning (its far to early to judge where Vick's ceiling is and how his body can hold up to consistent physical punishment). But back to the focus of the thread.... On any given Sunday the stars can align and they did for Vick last sunday. If theoretically they met again could Manning best Vick? sure.

in order to free myself from the limitations of my vocabulary... I will rely on the elegant and poetic lyricism from a wise postmodern sage

dont cry.dry your eyes
