Mid-level QB's sucktitude this year (1 Viewer)

There was more-or-less a consensus on the Top QB's going into this year:

Manning,Peyton

McNabb,Donovan

Manning,Eli

Bulger,Marc

Palmer,Carson

Brady,Tom

Hasselbeck,Matt

However, many of us believe that its better to target the mid-level QB's and use the higher draft picks for other positions.

Many of us that did that have been in a lot of pain this year.

The mid-level QB's to target this year were thought to be:

Plummer,Jake

Delhomme,Jake

Favre,Brett

Brees,Drew

Aaron Brooks

Bledsoe,Drew

Leftwich,Byron

Roethlisberger,Ben

Warner,Kurt

Simms,Chris

Green,Trent

Ouch!

Out of that group maybe you did ok of you grabbed Brees.

Ouch

Where are you getting that lousy list of mid levels? If that is what you thought were mid level, then yeah, you probably got hosed. If you put faith in Simms or Brooks you definately got what you deserved. I targeted mid round QB situations, where people had a chance to succeed, and am quite happy with Kitna and Rivers.Val

Part of the deal with QBBC is playing the schedule and using free agency. I drafted Brooks, Warner and Leftwich and have started four different QBs over the 7 weeks (Warner, Culpepper, Bledsoe and Leftwich). I didn't always make the best choice when picking a starter each week, but I've averaged more than 8.5 points per week - that's the equivalent of the 7th-best QB in my league, better than Brady, Palmer and Hasselbeck. Not bad for three late-round picks.

I'd be one of the guys who almost always waits until the 7th or 8th round to get a QB and I had three guys I targeted late. Warner, Vick, and Kitna. Unfortunately Vick didn't last long enough to get to me but But I got Kitna in both my leagues. When Warner got benched I had to go to the wire for back-ups but it's still no big deal.

I would guess that most of us who use this strategy when drafting aren't expecting to end up with the #1 or #2 QB for the year, just someone who puts up decent #s while we loaded up at WR and RB. Most teams draft a QB in rounds 3, 4, and 5 while I'm getting that extra RB . With the number of early RB and WR busts so far(seems a little higher than the norm to me) the depth is paying off. Even if I could draft again today the only 2 QBs I see worth the earlier picks would be McNabb and P Manning. McNabb being the only real suprise as a truly elite QB.

Add in the nice WW QBs that have been available ( Grossman, Pennington,Rivers, Carr) and I think this year was as good as any for the late QB picks.

Another bonus this year in my leagues has been the two big bye weeks causing other teams to have to drop their back-up QBs leaving many of these mid-tier Qbs on the waiver wire.

I want Drew "my mother can play QB better than me" Bledsoe to die. I want it to be painful and I want it to be slow. Perhaps getting hit by a truck in a hit n run. Besides that's realistic as we all know he couldn't get out of the way even if he saw it coming from a 1/2 mile down the road.

I WILL go after Manning next year.

Making it worse in my league is one guy drafted McNabb and Eli Manning, but has kept Eli on his bench all season, starting McNabb. I tried to pry Eli from him, but he wanted too much. I drafted Trent Green and Rothlisberger and once they both got hurt, I picked up Favre (after his good weeks) and McNair. Ended up trading for Carson 2 weeks ago. Waiting until late for QBs bit me this year, but one guy picked up Brees and Grossman and has done allright. Only thing I'd do differently is that I could have picked up Bulger in 7 or 8, but waited to round 9 for Trent Green. The guys I got in 7/8 haven't done squat for me, but hindsight is 20/20.

I was pretty pleased to start the season with the Plummer/Bledsoe tag team. After winning 3 years in a row, I'm now 0-7. Reading the posts above I think this problem probably had a greater impact on those leagues with smaller rosters. I didn't have the luxury of drafting a third QB or picking up random guys hoping they'd turn to gold. I do have Kitna now, but obviously it's a little late.

Have Kitna in five leagues with either ttwo out of the remaining three (Rivers, Pennington or Vick) not complaining at all.

I drafted Green, Brunell and Smith, and the latter two's inconsistency coupled with Green's absence has proven very frustrating.

Favre and Jake are #8 and #9 in my league??
