That’s my initial take too. But, unsurprisingly, people loved to be outraged.I think she misspoke- that she meant it was the media’s job to report the facts.
Pretty sure that clip is old and was about Trump.
Right, it's their job to ensure all we get is their version of the facts. She didn't misspeak, it wasn't one word.I think she misspoke- that she meant it was the media’s job to report the facts. I’ve been watching that show for many years and that is her position, not control.
And even if, by some chance, she didn’t misspeak: this is one woman. It’s not “MEDIA” as your title represents. Pretty misleading.

Its all over twitterSo Joe it appears that your clip is not about Musk at all. given that it's your Twitter feed that is showing it,. Where did you find it?
Where did you get that clip? You are literally spreading fake news.I could well be wrong. But I don't think this has anything to do with "loving to be outraged."![]()
So she misspoke? Imagine that. This is an extremely misleading post. This clip is 5 years old and talking about Donald Trump, not Elon. Here is Mika's clarification on it too:

Mika Brzezinski @morningmika
Today I said it's the media's job to keep President Trump from making up his own facts, NOT that it's our job to control what people think.

Even with the change, this thread is completely misleading. You continue to use the word “media” rather than referring to one woman, Mika. And she even clarified what she said and that she misspoke. And it was 5 years ago.Apologies for my earlier mistake. The quote was “He is trying to control exactly what people think. That is our job.” My point was the “He” isn’t important. It’s who controls. My apologies.
I apologized and posted a new tweet here. https://twitter.com/Football_Guys/status/1515379030865940491?s=20&t=QDMu8tDtziQTWQdAAnGt8w

Yuuup.I used to watching Morning Joe (back before I stopped watching all political shows), and I am not surprised Mika said this. I don't think she misspoke; I think she said the quiet part loud. Classic case of a media member admitting that they want to control what people think.
Context. At the time Trump was telling his followers not to believe the media at all, and that they were the enemy of the people.Yuuup.
Even if you generously give her thats she’s just saying the media should be the ones to report the facts that not correct. I mean should Biden shut down his Twitter and his admin not be allowed to provide their views on events (which are quite often bull####)
Sure, and you can disagree as many do with much of Bidens lies and nonsense. But to imply only you should have the ability to communicate “the truth” is exactly what’s wrong.Context. At the time Trump was telling his followers not to believe the media at all, and that they were the enemy of the people.
My biggest critique of her statement was her use of the word “we”, implying she is part of the media. She isn’t. She’s a talk show host and the show she is on is subjective opinion. She is not reporting the news (outside of emergency situations.)Sure, and you can disagree as many do with much of Bidens lies and nonsense. I don’t disagree but I think part of the problem is also that a lot of journalists are still pretending they are journalists. My biggest critique of her statement was her use of the word “we”, implying she is part of the media. I like Mika, but too many of these opinion people, both liberal and conservative, take on airs and act they are journalists. It confuses the issue (and makes the conservative argument that the MSM has a liberal bias easier to make.)
Such as? Honestly asking because I can’t think of whom you’re referring to.I don’t disagree but I think part of the problem is also that a lot of journalists are still pretending they are journalists.
OK. I regard Acosta as a legitimate journalist. It’s certainly true that his exchanges with Trump were notorious in their acrimony, but that is because, to be frank, Trump lied so much of the time and Acosta challenged him on it.I wasn’t referring to anyone, but how about This Guy
Cmon man. His job title should be self aggrandizing #### stirrer.OK. I regard Acosta as a legitimate journalist. It’s certainly true that his exchanges with Trump were notorious in their acrimony, but that is because, to be frank, Trump lied so much of the time and Acosta challenged him on it.
But isn’t that the role of the guy who asks questions at press conferences? (Putting aside the self aggrandizing part- that’s your opinion). Don’t you want a #### stirrer? It’s certainly what I want.Cmon man. His job title should be self aggrandizing #### stirrer.
Did you watch that clip joe? Your updated quote is completely without context.
If you are going to post a 5-year-old out-of-context clip without mentioning her subsequent clarification, the least you can do is quote it accurately.Apologies for my earlier mistake. The quote was “He is trying to control exactly what people think. That is our job.” My point was the “He” isn’t important. It’s who controls. My apologies.

You seem to do this often these days. Start a thread with incomplete info, you edit the post or title slightly, then you bail on the entire conversation.
You think posting one sentence of a conversation without context is a good way is enough to generate a thoughtful conversation?not bailed at all. I edited the quote to get it right.
i think we can definitely have good discussion on this. You think posting one sentence of a conversation without context is a good way is enough to generate a thoughtful conversation?

Her clarification is only the final word if you are a fierce media defender.Thank you @Joe Bryant for making the title change. I still think your opening post should say “from 5 years ago”, you should remove the line “at least she was honest” and instead include the fact that she wrote immediately after that she misspoke, but this is a good start IMO.
This pretty much closes this topic.
How are anchors and pundits...aka "talking heads", not part of the media? My biggest critique of her statement was her use of the word “we”, implying she is part of the media. She isn’t. The media reports the news. Journalists, anchors. They don’t offer opinions. Wolf Blitzer is a journalist. Chris Wallace is a journalist. Mika is not.How are anchors and pundits...aka "talking heads", not part of the media?
Whole lotta pent up anger lol ...Jeez, did I miss a memo that stated "have a go at Joe in this thread"? I guess it's to be expected that some would act that way towards the owner of the site, but still rather unfortunate.
Also, INB4 the retorts stating why he deserved the comments thrown at him, because that is what some do.
IT'S NOT ALWAYS ALL ABOUT TIMMAH!lol what anger? He was wrong.
I wasn’t referring to me. I didn’t see any anger from anyone, and I’m pretty sure I read every post.IT'S NOT ALWAYS ALL ABOUT TIMMAH!
And there were several posts deleted...
