Mike Brown Out for Year (1 Viewer)

I guess the bright side here is that the Bears defense is used to playing without him and generally have continued to play at a high level.

This is bad news for the Chicago D. See some of my thoughts in this thread. Don't expect Sunday's kind of dominance anymore in my opinion.

ETA my thoughts from other thread:

Bears are in huge trouble. I don't think people realize how important Mike Brown is on the Bears D. Anyone notice he just "happened" to catch the only interception and just "happened" to recover the only fumble. The dude is always in the right place at the right time. He is a motivator, and a leader in that defense. He tells people where to be and who to cover (check Super Bowl last year when he was not playing and Wayne scored a long TD on blown coverage). Can anyone find the Bears defensive statistics and win/loss record when Mike Brown is playing compared to when he is not playing? I thought I've seen something like this and it is like night and day. IMO, this is the about the worst thing that could have happened to the Bears week 1 (only thing worse would be Urlacher, eta Tommie, or maybe Briggs going down).

Hold on now. It's a big hit but I think we're a little more prepared for it this time. As long as Tommie stays healthy, I think we'll just fine. The offense is a different story.

That's what I'm screaming! Losing Brown hurts, but we will be alright.

I agree. It hurts a lot. But luckily for us Bears fans we are in the NFC North.

Bears lose a DT to thuggery. Lost another DT yesterday in Dvoracek. Lose Mike Brown. Lost Harris to the Panthers.Run stopping might be slipping a little, but it's still the Bears. Time will tell.

That's a huge hit to the Chi D. He's a star playmaker.
:lmao:3 picks and 1 sack since 2004?
yeah, not sure what we would have done without him. This was expected at some point. It being the first game is tough but this just means Manning gets more time on the field, which is better for the team long term and won't hurt much in the short term. This is exactly why I didn't like the Harris trade, but I'm sure they wouldn't have made the move if they thought they didn't have the depth to do it.

For some rason Mike Brown was a terror on the field. For such a limited athlete. They will miss the huge play he's always in the middle of.

go Manning, not a rook anymore, hope he's improved after blowing the coverage in the Super Bowl.

He obviously hasn't played much over the last three years, but he's all over the field when he does.
You may want to change 'star playmaker' into 'decent safety'
You may want to change 'decent safety' into the best to ever play for the Bears. He may have had a HOF career if he wasn't so damn unlucky. This guy is/was the leader of the defense, and every Bear will acknowledge this. Hopefully he calls it quits and gets into the coaching ranks, asap, as he will be one of the best in no time at all.

And in last place.
Exactly. Winning the division is no given. All other teams have improved and the Bears are already dealing with injury on defense and a lackluster offense.

Sorry to hear about your son, Mrs. Brown.

I know how you feel, GB. I've had many of the same emotions since yesterday. It's just one game though. We'll rebound.

I have been quite emotional the past 24 hours! :lmao:jk ... I still think we'll pull it out and win the division - everyone else has to face San Diego as well. We just gotta win our division games.

Tough break for the Bears, he's a quality player. Their D wasn't quite as good without him yesterday but it was still probably NFL best. They really can't afford too many more hits there though.

Yeah, he really looked good. He was all over the place it seemed....

Enjoy it because it won't last. Heck, the Bears held arguably the best offense in football to 0 points the first 44 minutes of the game and the best player in football to 25 yards rushing. The Bears went to the Super Bowl without Brown last year, and will do it again!

Did he get hurt running back his interception? I remember watching him intercept the ball and start running and thinking, "Just go down, you're going to hurt yourself." Seems like he's always gotten hurt running back an interception or fumble recovery. Maybe it's just my imaginiation. Maybe next year he'll get a turnover and hand the ball to someone else.

Laugh now, Mike Brown was a heck of a player, and deserves a bit more respect than the 'decent safety' tag.

Um...Where did I say that? I started the initial Mike Brown injury thread. No one knows how important he is to the Bears defense more than I do. But I still think the defense will be fine.

Did he get hurt running back his interception?
No. 36-year-old Lorenzo Neal clotheslined him.
Clothesline would imply that Mike Brown actually saw it coming. It was more like a horse collar from behind, Brown blew by him and was going to be in the backfield to make a play on LT and so Neal comes from behind him and rips him down by his neck. And of course no flag, just ridiculous.Yes, this blows. Brown was all over the field, and the play after he left LT runs over McGowan (among others) for the TD. :goodposting:

I'm tellin ya, the defense is not the same without him! This is BAD!

 Brown should send a nice bouquet of flowers to Mr. Neal thanking him for the fall off...or perhaps, just make sure the favor gets repaid when the two team meet in the Super Bowl. Of course, that would mean that the Chargers would have to win a playoff game...

The defense played the last 3 years without him.
Agreed, it's not going to end the Bears season or anything. But with Mike Brown, this defense is something special. The best D in the league - by a good margin. You saw it in the 1st half of last season, you saw it in yesterday's game. Without him, they're just a really good defense with a few teams in the same echelon. If they had anybody capable of filling those shoes, Mike Brown probably would have been let go already with his injury history. :(
