WR Jermaine Burton, CIN (1 Viewer)

That all being said, he seems to be in the doghouse early on (no surprise) so don’t expect much from him early in the season. I don’t doubt in his talent though, and if he gets the opportunity to play, look out. Even a regular WR3 role would be flex worthy.
I see him less as “in the doghouse” and more “Iosivas is the incumbent, and has also shown well at camp”

Higgins is gone next year. Burton should get some PT this year and looks better suited to playing outside in the Higgins role.

Burton could prove to be an excellent buy-low for the patient dynasty manager.

Agree on this, he is clearly below the vets but every pre-season game he goes in and tears it up. He admits he needs to know the playbook better. They are making him earn it. He Is a great long term play in dynasty.

Sheesh! This report on Jermaine Burton reads more like a hit piece than a player update. That said, we know that character concerns were the reason that Burton dropped in the Draft. The talent is undeniable. I just hope his character can catch up to his ability.

Andres Iosivas is the one to grab if Chase sits. Iosivas should have standalone value as the Bengals WR3 even if Chase signs and plays like Tyler Boyd did before his departure.

Zac Taylor on Jermaine Burton: “I think Jermaine has made progress…he will continue to get opportunities.”

Taylor notes, just like Iosivas & Jones last year, it’s difficult as a rookie WR to immediately play to your full potential in his offense. Burton got 4 snaps in Week 1.

As much as I would like to see a breakout while Higgins is down, I'm not expecting much of an uptick from week 1. In dynasty, I'm viewing Burton as a must-hold through the beginning of 2025 unless the knucklehead factor becomes too large.
At least he was active which is better than the Brendan rice or Washington types lol
Got a pretty decent pff grade on all 4 of his snaps and 1 route too!

How do we feel about him in Dynasty? Burton is one of my favorite trade targets right now. Higgins, ain't it. Burton's price will CLIMB the moment he gets his opportunity and produces. He's a cheap gamble when owners are looking for immediate points.

I’m holding. The team comments seem to have had a positive impact on his maturity, and now word is coming out that he’s coming along.

The talent isn’t in question (though Burrow called him out for his hands early on)

Higgins is almost assuredly gone next year and Burton fits that outside receiver mold across from Chase. There’s a scenario where he’s a viable FF WR as soon as next season.

Strong hold IMO.

Start'n to come together, Pepper. Start'n to come together.
Time MAY be the time to buy. I question his head space a bit.

I do as well. Don't think anything drastic is going to happen by Tuesday, but stranger things have happened.

Drafted him late 2nd with the self-mandate that he must be held through the first month of 2025. Not the easiest league to stash guys offering nothing in terms of current production, but I made my choice and I will wait for him as long as the goofball factor remains in check.

Just watch him be a bust since I drafted him.

Just kidding, I think he'll be a nice deep threat.

I went Coleman, Burton, Franklin but in hindsight I maybe should have gone Coleman, Burton, McMillian

(update on bottom, Burton might not play this week)

Last week I spoke the Kyle Pitts first career 2 TD game into existence, this week will be Jermaine Burton finding the end zone for his first career TD.

He’s been gradually seeing more playing time and it looks like Tee Higgins will be missing yet another game. Burton could be really special if he puts it all together, but that’s a big “if” at this time. I’m stashing him for now to see how much his role grows. There’s late season flex appeal if he can leapfrog Andrei Iosivas in the pecking order.

Update - so much for Burton this week, guess the Pitts prediction thing was truly a fluke for me lol

Things must have soured on Bengals WR Jermaine Burton over the weekend. He is not warming up ahead of today’s game against the Raiders. Will likely be a healthy scratch.

It's opposite day!

He’s inactive today despite Higgins being out. Says “Coaches Decision”

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Bengals Jermaine Burton was a healthy scratch for Week 9 after missing Saturday’s walkthrough.
Burton has had a rocky start to his career. Despite being taken 80th overall, the Bengals have now made him a healthy scratch twice. He has two catches for 88 yards this year. Both Joe Burrow and head coach Zac Taylor had encouraging words on the rookie earlier this week and he was expected to be more involved with Tee Higgins out once again. The Bengals had to scrap those plans after he no-showed Saturday’s practice. Andrei Iosivas will remain the team’s No. 2 receiver for their Week 9 matchup with the Raiders.

Unbelievable. Curious to see what the exact circumstances are for "no-showing Saturday's practice", but pulling this crap when you're about to get your opportunity is probably going to be enough for me to cut my losses and reclaim this roster spot in dynasty. I should be grateful. Much better than waiting 3 years on a guy that doesn't have the discipline to ever put it together. I get that other leagues are deep enough where that it will still make sense to stick to the long play.

How does a rookie miss a walk through? Seriously, what a moron.

Right?

Here is your once in a lifetime opportunity to play in the big leagues and you want to blow it on childish behavior like this? Unbelievable.

I mean, even if he’s young and was out partying the night before…..cannot possibly count the number of times I showed up for work after drinking and sleeping 2-4 hours on a Thursday night. Dude just has to be there for a walk through..

Billy, this is Jermaine Burton. He balled out at multiple elite college programs and potentially could have been a day-one pick without off-the-field issues. He's easily Cincy's third-best WR. The field-stretching ability is huge.

The problem is he can't stay awake in meetings.

The reporting on why Jermaine Burton is a healthy scratch goes beyond what I could have imagined.

Built a gameplan featuring him, had to scrap it late in the week because he just didn't show up Saturday? Saying they'll address it after the game? Beyond the pale.

After thinking and talking about Jermaine Burton's potential to help the offense this week, it's just so disappointing.

wow

dude is gonna be outta the league quick - this kind of stuff has plagued since high school

he’s like a normal sized Dorial Green-Beckham, e.g., he doesn’t have otherworldly measurables that might get him a second chance to fail

I’m out on Burton and won’t be long before the Bengals are too. If he can’t be depended on for the easiest of tasks (showing up for a Saturday walkthrough, for a gameplan he was going to be featured in), then he can’t be depended on to do the tougher tasks either. This was a chance for him to reward the Bengals’ faith in him, to prove himself against all the doubts that were justifably put on him, and show that they can rely on him as a featured weapon in the offense. Instead, Burton continues to show he doesn’t take any of this seriously enough. Thinks this is backyard football and that he can just coast on his natural gifts and doesn’t need to be a professional about it. There’s no chance that the Bengals go into this offseason without getting someone else to be the new WR2 to replace Higgins, whether it’s free agency or the Draft. It’s too bad because if he applied himself he could be really special. But the character concerns are very real and at this point I don’t see it happening for him. The DGB comp is spot on.

The kid knew his previous behavioral issues were a factor when the draft was here. The fact that he is not rising to the occasion enough to get to his job at this point is a real bad sign. No further FF interest in him for me. Rarely do these kind of guys pan out for the long haul.

Cris Carter comes to mind as a WR that got his **** together after a rough start with attitude. It did take a trade to wake him up.
Carter was at least able to get on the field. His problems were mostly related to substance abuse and the move to a new team and environment helped wake him up. Carter later earned a Walter Payton Man of the Year award.

Burton was poised to get his big opportunity. Burrow went public last week in his support of him.
Sabotaging himself the day before the game and embarrassing your starting Quarterback ends up with him digging his own grave.

Hopefully he gets another chance if he gets responsible but hard to see it coming with the Bengals.

This guy is toast. He doesn't care. He showed up to the game in his pajamas after he was made inactive.
