Mike Tolbert, San Diego RB (1 Viewer)

King of the Jungle

Footballguy
Looking for some insight on this 5-9, 245 machine. It appears that he has some nice receiving skills based on the first two games. I don't think Sproles would carry the load if LT continues to have toe issues... Any chance they give this guy the rock a little? Anyone know his M.O.?

I think he's the fullback?

He took a short pass 70 yards. I don't expect that to happen much this season.

IMHO he's WW fodder and isn't startable in any format.

Isn't he Lorenzo Neal's replacement?
yes. He's a fullback. He has a fullback's lateral agility. He's no threat to become a Turner. Sproles is the next Turner, in terms of the guy behind LT being supertalented, but people won't acknowledge it because he's a backup.

Isn't Sproles too small to carry/touch 20 times a game? How does JHester factor in?
Since they gave up an 09 2nd to get Hester, I would think he's the blunt force instrument to compliment Sproles in the post LT era, that's assuming they can keep Sproles, who is an RFA next year. I think Sproles can hold up fine under 20 touches a game a la MJD/Bush, he's just too small to be a do everything feature back.

Who says he's too small?

Tolbert played halfback in college, but the Chargers moved him to fullback and he is actually a very good blocker. He's a great runner and receiver for a fullback (much better than Lorenzo Neal, for example), but he's not going to get a lot of touches.

If LT misses a game, Sproles would be the primary RB and Hester would spell him and perhaps get the goal line carries. Tolbert would stay at fullback in the same role he's had in the first two weeks.

yeah, w. dunn, b. westbrook, they couldnt hold up either
There are significant differences. Westbrook weighs 203, which is a huge difference from 181. Dunn has never touched the ball 320 times in a season. He'sjust had a two season where he touched it 300 times.
