Mike Wallace (1 Viewer)

I did not know this:

Wallace has more receiving yardage and more touchdowns in his first three seasons than any NFL receivers in the last 30 years, except for Jerry Rice and Randy Moss, according to ESPN.

I think Wallace got some bad advice here. What did this move buy him? He got to sit at home and watch Antonio Brown get an extension?

No injuries in meaningless games or practices?
Guys are actually much more prone to getting injured after missing training camp.In the history of guys that held out and reported late, the winners and losers work out like this (in terms of performance on the field):Winners: Emmitt SmithLosers: Everyone else that's pulled this stunt.

He was trying to avoid a preseason injury that essentially would ruin his financial future. The fact is the Steelers front office would have no problems telling him to enjoy his life and cut him without a dollar in his pocket if he blows his knee out this preseason.

Maybe. From a surface level analysis though, fewer reps equals less chance of catastrophic injury.Don't think he's worried about something that costs him a few games. Just wanted to avoid the long term debilitating injuries to the extent he could. For the record, I don't think there is any chance in hell he is reporting without the intent of signing a LTD that is at or near the offer supposedly tabled prior to him skipping camp. Nothing to do with likelihood of injuries...just thought I'd throw that out there.

OC Haley seems pretty upbeat about how quickly he can get up to speed

Mike Wallace - WR - Steelers

Steelers OC Todd Haley believes Mike Wallace will be ready to play in Week 1.

Wallace, who finally signed his one-year tender on Tuesday, has roughly 10 days to get up to speed. Haley believes the wideout position is easy to slide right into. "It's not a running back or someone who has to be in the action of the game," he said. "I think it's feasible he's ready to go when we start this thing up." Wallace will be Haley's starting split end. "I've been working out. I've been really good conditioning. I don't think that's going to be a problem," Wallace said.

It's no surprise that the Steelers plan to have Mike Wallace available for the season opener against the Broncos. It's not even a surprise they plan to start him.

The Steelers would probably have just preferred to keep that information private.

Teammate Emmanuel Sanders told Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Monday that Wallace would start against Denver. Wallace did not confirm that during his media session and we doubt the Steelers will say anything.

Apart from the team's new playbook, Wallace noticed one other big change.

"I haven't been with Ben (Roethlisberger) in awhile," Wallace said. "His arm is stronger than when we left last year. He was throwing that thing pretty far," Wallace said.

Wallace said he had a "pretty good grasp" of the new system. He doesn't think he'll be limited in terms of what he can handle mentally. It sounds like he's fine to go physically.

Look for Wallace to play plenty against the Broncos. Pittsburgh just hopes he's more effective against Champ Bailey than he was in the Wild Card round last year.
