Miles Austin in the slot (1 Viewer)

From rotoworld:

NFL Network's Michael Lombardi expects the Cowboys to use more spread sets this year to take advantage of Dez Bryant's high-impact talent.

The rookie is going to be hard to keep off the field, and the Cowboys have already experimented with Miles Austin in the slot during offseason practices. Lombardi predicts that the explosive passing game will make Felix Jones even more dangerous. This pick-your-poison offense should be a fantasy bonanza in 2010.

Anyone worried?

This is old news. Not worried at all. It just gives them more chances to get him the ball. He will be starting in the 2 WR sets.

No. They could line him up at Tackle Eligible and he'll still be the best receiving option on the field.

Worried? I moved him up the boards (my boards) on this news when it first broke. He's going to see some slot work. That doesn't mean he's been demoted to 3rd on the depth chart. In two WR sets, he's still out there. It's actually a strategy to get Austin into even more favorable matchups. San Fran used to do this with Rice or T.O. against Deion, IIRC. Take your best WR and line him up inside. It forces the DC to either mess with his coverage scheme by making the shutdown CB follow the WR inside or he keeps the shutdown CB on the outside while the WR1 draws coverage from a nickleback, safety or, even better, a LB.

Look, the more preseason hype Bryant gets, the more attention he gets from the opposition when the season starts. Be glad he's coming in for 3 WR sets (and eventually starting) to draw coverage from one of the top 2 CB's on the other team. Austin should eat that inside coverage up and it could increase his targets. He'll either be seeing zone coverage or single coverage from the opposition's 3rd best CB. That's more favorable than Dez facing the opposition's shutdown corner with safety help over the top.
