I usually hate conspiracy theories but this whole things reeks of a false flag operation. The Turkish military knows how to launch coups. This weak ### coup is a joke. How do you not shut down the airport? So Erdogan can have his triumphant return and consolidate power even further.

I know people who have gone on those Italy, Greece, turkey cruises and come back raving about turkey more than the other two.

I'm pretty skeptical of conspiracy theories for the purpose of increasing power. There HAVE been some in history (obviously, the Reichstag fire) but this situation sure sounds like it was too big for people to plan it. I'm pretty sure this was real.

Don't know why you find what I wrote amusing. That Erdogan won is the best possible result seems to be the universal consensus from experts, our State Department, the NATO leaders, etc. Erdogan is a pretty bad guy but it sure sounds like the chaos that would have ensued if he had been taken out would have been worse.

If this was some podunk country I'd agree with you. But the Turkish army is legit. If they really wanted to launch a coup it would not look like this.

If Turkey is invaded by an outside country, we will defend them. If any other NATO country is attacked by an outside country, we will expect Turkey to send troops to defend it, as we will.  

It could, however, impact our foreign aid to Turkey. Turkey receives millions every year from us. (We also guarantee loans.) How Erdogan reacts to this may affect that support.

The problem is, the Turkish military was divided about this. Most of the major players were not a part of this and are loyal to Erdogan. This was not the best of their military, nor did it have much suppor .
