@Raging weasel - what is the weather looking like there?

I think Minn is supposed to get dumped with snow, but it also looks like there is a chance of precipitation in Det too?
Looks like 50% chance of rain from 8pm-11 . Tonights expected temp of 45 with a light rain is sadly some of the best conditions the Tigers have had to play in. They will probably get today's game in but doubt they play Sat as they are calling for up to 2 inches of rain.

Think I'll stick with the 3mans as I've had some success with them and have had no luck with 50/50s and the strategy is about the same.

With the weather here may move from Montgomery.
I was thinking going this route too.  In theory it's more hit or miss, but the couple times I have done a 50/50 and a 3 or 5 man, the contests haven't been that far off of each other.  Also thought about doing H2Hs instead of 50/50s too.

The one thing I get paranoid about is if I enter 2-4 of them and get the same person in all of them with me, so I try to be the last person in and look to see who's in it.

@Northern Voice - listening to podcast today, and they had a tad more about the K% on hitters.  Makes sense, just thought I would post b/c we were talking about it here.  There point was it matters a little, but if you have a higher K% guy it's safer to use them vs. a low K% SP.

Ie - Blach only Ks righties 15%, so a guy like Pirela who whiffs at almost 30% is safer tonight than vs. a guy that might K righties at 23%+ or more.  On the flip side, Gallo probably isn't the best play.
Yeah, that makes sense, for the most part I'm always avoiding high K SP's... I don't tend to use the extreme high-K guys like Story and Gallo, I just don't prioritize low-k guys.

Tonight looks like a good one.  Seems like lots of hitting situations and lots of good SPs.

I thought Cole was the cash lock on FD when I glanced at stuff, but is E.Rod the play since he is only 6.6K?  On DK I was going to start with Cole and probably him since he is cheap over there, but not that cheap.

Gpp SPs there are quite a few, IMO.  Clevenger, the SPs in the LaD/AZ game, Roark depending on Color L/U, Velasquez.   I am sure there are a few others, but not sure you have to dumpster dive too much for a gpp SP if Rodriquez is that cheap.
I like Roark a lot with Arenado/Blackmon both possibly/likely out. I agree on ERod as well, I just think he'll be very highly owned. I don't hate Chad Kuhl as a contrarian GPP pick.

@KarmaPolice  you seem to follow Seat and Oak, what do you think of Triggs vs the Seat offense?

And I forget, are you a west coaster or just stay up late alot?
@Raging weasel - full disclosure - I haven't been a huge baseball guy until a couple years ago.  I did follow the Mariners a bit and would watch a game if they were on, but that's about it.

The only reason I bring up teams like Oak, Milw, Balt, etc.. is because last year I had success in gpps with them and Seattle.  I just like a couple teams in dfs that have a core 4-5 guys that have power and are usually low owned.

As far as Triggs, I did look at his #s and thought it was a 50/50 gpp play.   He has started off well, but do you get this year's 11 K/9, or last year's <7?   Looking at the Plate IQ, it looks like his high whiff pitches are sliders and knuckle-curves, and Seattle's K% jumped up a bit with those pitches, and he has a low HR/9.   Just going on the slate I think I just like Clevinger and Roark for a couple hundred more or E.Rod for 1.4K less  a bit more for gpps.  I think all those might have better K upside.

ETA: nope, not a west coaster.  I live in WI.

I admit I do suck at guessing ownership %, but I do like these big slates because it drops the ownership on just about all the bats.  I get what NV is saying about E.Rod being highly owned, but if you are pairing him with a low owned stack or a few bats, that's fine.  IF you are loading up on Yankees, Nats, Bost, Angels, then maybe a lower owed SP is in play in that LU.

Been trying to use that Plate IQ quick to attempt to find gpp options.  Basically I try to get guys that have >20%K rate (hopefully vs. both handedness of batter if not at least vs. a team with a lot of batters from that side), +10% swinging K rate,  and then I look at their top 2 K% pitches, and see if the opposing team whiffs at those and their wOBAs are low.

Doing that just now gave me:  Greinke, Clevinger, E.Rod, Faria, and Velasquez.

3man

Cole Zimmerman Kinsler Rendon Nunez Gardner Herrera Betts Moreland

GPP

Triggs Gurriel Altuve Bregman Arcia Gardner Braun Judge Santana

Good luck all

Landed on this for DK (just a couple 2xs and a 25cent contest):  Cole/Rodriguez Maldonado Moreland Cabrera Freese Rojas Benint Betts Judge

Bost/Houst for FD (a couple H2Hs, couple 5mans):  Rodriguez Moreland Altuve Bregman Segura Springer JD Mart Renfroe Olson

Did a handful of 25cent gpps on FD for fun too.  My boy Aguilar is in, so of course I fired up the Milw stack.  Also Oak, Seattle, and bottom of the order stacks for Wash and NY.

Speaking of ownership, it feels like I am the only one without Nunez and his HR in my contests.

ETA: ....and Faria is about 45% owned in my DK 2xs.

Should have just used the 3man lineup for both contests. It scored 188.9 which was good for a 40pt+ win in 3man and would have won $6 in gpp.

Also won at DK in a 3man pick em so between both was $6 in and $10.80 out

@Raging weasel - nice night.  I have a couple questions:

1.  How have you been doing with the pick 'ems, and do you try to stack players, or just roll with best batters?

2.  What put you on Nunez?  I put had him in my gpp that did well, but I guess it's because I had the top of the order Bost bats, and didn't play Cole that I didn't have him?

I just checked and my Mariners pushed 3 other gpps over the cash line, so I had 4 cash on the night (one for $1, one 75cents, and 2 for 50cents).   My main LU got demolished, so lost a couple bucks there.

DK I did well, and cashed most stuff except the micro booster I put my main LU in and a gpp I tried, so up a few bucks there.

I actually one both of my 6 man drafts on Draft last night, so that was +$14 on the night.  One was a Bost stack, the other a Stl stack.

@Northern Voice - you said something about having a deposit on Draft.  I find it kinda meh besides doing alright last night.  Since it's random draft order you obviously have to it on a bigger slate and you better be OK with 6 SPs if you are trying a 6man draft.   They are usually all day(which helps with the SPs), but that also means that you have to take batters without knowing batting order.  You can swap out if they aren't starting, but still.   You can gain an edge on days like today where it looks like that Clev game might ppd, and somebody takes Kluber, just to have to take a replacement later though.

2- I wanted to go heavy Bos from the start but using Cole couldnt get me Betts/JDM so moved to Nunez and Moreland so yeah, what you said..  I use Nunez quite a bit as well as Rojas from Mia on days when I punt SS. Plus I didnt have the extra $100 to get Seager--lol

1- Don't play them much but I am 3/4 so doing good. I only do pick ems on large slate(8+) days with crappy pitching and lots of bats I like. That way I don't have to choose which 3/8 studs I llike and can just get the best guy or who I think is the best guy. I do try and stack but usually a 2man stack at most unless its 2-4 game slate where I target 1 SP/bullpen with as many picks as possible.

Lots of weather concerns today and Scherzer at 11.5k so going with 1 other stud and a bunch of cheap fillers from Bos/Balt. have to hope the guys I squeezed in are in the lineup today.

Cool thanks.  Thought it was a bit of each, but my roster construction had me paying up everywhere since E.Rod was so cheap.

Weather looks horrible and might take out 1/2 the early games, so I am just going to do 1 all-day 5man instead of an early slate.  Scherz/Archer/Morton are in play then.

Main slate is kinda meh too, but when I looked at SPs to target, my favorite stacks popped up, so you know I am firing up 4-6 25cent gpps with Mariners and As.

$1 gpp

Scherzer Adams Difo Bryant Lin Mancini Alvarez JDmart C Davis

Betts to locker room as I type.
Good Luck!

I went Scherzer and Stl. stack of DeJong J.Mart Ozuna

My 5man I put in Scherzer as well, but leaving bats for night side.  I am the only one of us who has Scherzer.

Tonight since I am just doing cheap gpps I am looking hard at G.Richards and Chase Anderson.  I think of my 6 LUs, 4 will be G.Richards.

Min cashed this for $2. Had $9 in play at DK in MLB,PGA and MMA and cashed for $9.40 so up a whole $1.40 combined for the day.
+days are +days.

I caught the guy leading me all day with the Renfroe HR,so won the all-day 5man.  Seattle got me a couple min cash gpps too, so up a few bucks on the day as well.

There is some value opening up today if you can avoid the weather.  Guys like Bradley, Nimmo, Villar, La Stella near the top of batting order to help get that stud SP in.  I might try a 6man on Draft today and see if I can get a stack and get opponents who pick people from weather games.

Due to weather and life only did a 3man pick em on DK. All of us lost either Pham or Votto as they were the only guys in the tier that weren't already ruled out at lock.

Yeah, I feel asleep on the recliner, and didn't see the LAA/KC game ppd - not sure I could have switched anyway.  I should be able to at least break even.  Along with some cheap gpps, I was in 2 5mans for the early slate and I am winning them both.  Despite having 2 0s because of ppds, one I am 2xing everybody in points b/c they had loaded up on LAA bats and Ohtani, and the other I am currently leading my <1pt, so I might get caught there.

I am in an all-day 5 man and it seems to be a head to head between me and another entry b/c we avoided 0s.  He has 5 left, and I have 4 - a 3bat Houst stack and Verlander. I am guessing he has Verlander too.

Also did 1 afternoon 5man.

I missed the news on LA/kc too and had trout in to their Harper. Luckily I was the only one using Bell and Hernandez and escaped with a 1 point victory.

Nice.

I won a 5man in the early, got clipped by 4pts in another because the other entry had a Philly stack.  The late slate one was horrible.  I am currently playing catch-up with the all day 5man.  About 30pts behind, but have Verlander, Correa, Bregman, Springer.  One entry has Springer, the other has Verlander and Gurriel.   Should be a break even day without this, but still would be nice to catch them.

Not sure where to go for SP tonight. Degrom is the top guy but he let me down last time vs Mia and now faces a real lineup. Kuechel and Paxton face each other.  Hou hits lefties well while Kuechel has struggled thru his last 2 starts.

Snell or Lopez could be my gpp flier with some Tampa/Phil bats.

I'm looking at Snell/Keuchel for tonight right now (DraftKings). I like Paxton for K's but I can't see the Astros offense being shut down two nights in a row.

Teoscar Hernandez is my homer pick who will be in any lineup I have today ($2600 at DK - was batting 2nd in his debut). I'll probably do at least one lineup with a Jays stack, they hit lefties well and Skoglund isn't scaring anyone. Plus the dome will be favourable conditions to almost anywhere else right now.

And as I say this, the game could be postponed due to falling ice around the Rogers Centre.

I am doing all day 5-mans so I can use Severino.  Not sure I trust anybody else on main for a cash LU.

I was thinking about J.Garcia, for cash but now that game is in jeopardy.

Nights like this for gpps, I like to target bats vs. SPs that I think might be higher owned and using other SPs.   So I was thinking about using Paxton or Lopez and using Wash, Seattle, or Milw bats.  Also I had Philly, LaD, AtL, and Mets written down.  Toronto cheap guys too if that game goes.

@Northern Voice - what is your take on J.Garcia if that game goes?
Cancelled. In general, I don't love him for dfs because I don't trust the K's to be there. The Jays are also desperately keeping away from RH heavy lineups (Yankees in particular).

I think I hate my lineup tonight but I scrambled with the Jays out. Basically the SPs I like with a platter of Mets/Phillies/Rockies

Keuchel/Snell/Ianetta/Desmond/Cabrera/Chapman/Kingery/Conforto/Herrera/Hoskins
