We're getting to the point where some fighters are going to be less familiar (to me). Can ya'll help me out by listing their weight class as well? :bag:

And no, google isn't down.

 
9.05 Rafeal Dos Anjos- Lightweight

A darkhorse favorite of mine that I believe will be in title contention conversation in the near future. Very slick BJJ and his striking has came a long ways. Only lost to Guida because of a freak jaw injury. He was out muscled by Tibau, which forced him back to the drawing board to work on his striking.

 
9.06 Tyron Woodley, WW

- former Strikeforce 170lb champ

- 1-0 in UFC, 13-1 overall, rebounded from Marquardt loss with a first round destruction of Jay Hieron

- All-American college wrestler

- one of the best athletes in the division

- decent boxing with great speed/good power

although I hated watching TWood in Strikeforce (where he appeared to be styling himself as the black Jon Fitch), I think the guy has a world of potential - his athleticism and wrestling are top notch, and his striking looks like it's improving. He's 30 years old, so he still has a little time to develop that part of his game.

he's got his next fight scheduled with Jake Shields this summer. While this one definitely has the possibility of being the least eventful MMA fight of all time, I think it turns out differently - Shields is way outclassed in terms of physical ability and won't be able to outwrestle Woodley. I think Woodley's speed on the feet helps him put away Shields, establishing him solidly in the top ranks of the UFC welterweight division.

alright, some tough decisions here. i'll start with a rertired/HOF guy. Let's face it, if we're building a league we need to make money. Ahrn will have some awesome cards, but this guy undoubtedly sells PPVs and tickets. If we are judging the retired/HOF guys on pure skill this pick isn't the best, but if we look at whole picture he is helping a ton with financial stability. Him and Ronda could have my league financially stable for awhile, and with that i could buy up all the guy after your leagues fold:

give me 10 minutes, i think i know who i want but have to start thinking about filling by weight class

 
well, we are running out of the top talent in a lot of these divisions. One i see that is showing some weakness is Hwy. Give me the guy who was beating up Big Foot until he tore his hamstring. Guy should be 13-0-1, and is still growing in the sport:

Travis 'Hapa' Browne (HWY).

only thing that sucks here is i really want another guy, and i am almost certain he won't make it back to me again. But Overeem, Lesnar, and Brown should sell tickets and make the HWY division fun for at least a few cards

real nice one here Ahrn. J-Lau was one of the guys i was thinking about with this draft, and couldn't figure out where he would go. Guy has so many FON awards, and is always game for a good fight

 
10.02 Brian Bowles, Bantamweight

Former WEC BW champ, Bowles is kind of a forgotten man at 135 because he's been healing his hands for the past 18 months. He has 10 career wins and 9 finishes -- 90% finisher at 135 is ridiculous. His only losses are to Faber and D Cruz, and the Cruz fight was stopped by a doctor because of his hand injury. Bowles was the man who ended Miguel Torres 16 fight win streak (going into that fight Torres was 37-1) and took his title. I'm not sure that Bowles (or anyone at 135) has what it takes to derail Barão at this point, but Bowles has a good a chance as anyone. Good techique and a very hard hitter.

hmm, interesting pick here. I didn't even really have him on my radar. i know he has a fight coming up against Cole Miller (maybe?) that will help to show if he is back or not.

edit: i was thinking of taking Miller in that fight but now i'm thinking it over again. i didn't know that he wanted to return until i heard the fight announcement, so maybe i should just stay away from that one

Undefeated 24 year old, already 3-0 in the UFC. He's pretty fun to watch too.

Thought about him, wasn't sure how he'd be received. Guy had a hell of a run in his short career, it's too bad that diverticulitis basically killed his fighting career.

Not sure I understand your point about him making money for your league, he's retired. You gunna have him cut promos? :confused:

Sure. Maybe have him come out of retirement for a fight. Have him just hang around, guy draws attn. and peope want to see him. And we would have some nice highlights for our opening highlight reel, his thump he landed on Heath Herring where Herring flipped over will always be a nice clip. I think it was the Frank Mir fight where he came out with a flying knee, would have been great if he landed that and it caused some damage.

He has looked impressive and has plenty of potential, but I'm not a fan of those looping hooks he constantly throws. He is going to be on the wrong end of a highlight knockout sooner than later.

nice pick - I considered him at 9.06, dude is a badass. I agree with hooter his striking is the weakest part of his game, but he's got plenty of time to tighten that up and his sambo/wrestling is top notch. I think he's got the tools to be a serious contender at some point.

 
10.06 Hector Lombard- Middleweight

Despite the recent split decision losses, he is still a very tough out at 185. If both of those fights were 5 rounders Lombard probably would have came out the winner of both. He has been really lackadaisical in the first round since coming to the UFC.

 
10.7 - Gunnar Nelson WW

11-0-1 (2-0 UFC)

Up and coming stud. Slick BJJ game (Renzo black belt, PAN-AM champ) to along with a karate based striking attack.

 
10.08 Jordan Mein, WW

23 years old. Record: 27-8

I think he and Rory McDonald are going to have a lot of wars in the next few years.

12-1, with his only lost being to Gustafsson. Fighting Glover next. Should be a great fight. If Te Huna wins, it should vault him up the rankings.

Gunnar is my favorite prospect in MMA but he is going to be outsized in almost every fight. He seriously needs to consider dropping to 155, as I don't think he can hang with a strong wrestler at 170, just too much of a size disadvantage.

Slick BJJ is an understatement, he is incredible.

GUNNAR NELSON FACTS

1. When Gunnar Nelson was born he didn´t cry so the head nurse smacked his bottom to try to get him to cry. Big mistake. Newborn Gunnar Nelson took her down, transition to full mount then quickly to the back and rear naked choked her out in less than 30 seconds

2. Gunnar Nelson is so relaxed that he has actually slept through all of his pro fights. He has in fact sleep-beaten all of his opponents.

3. Gunnar Nelson is so relaxed that he in fact is never actually awake. He has sleep-walked through most of his life.

4. Before the Boogie Man goes to sleep he checks his closet for Chuck Norris. Before Chuck Norris goes to sleep he check his closet for Gunnar Nelson. Before Gunnar Nelson goes to sleep he does not check his closet for anything because Gunnar Nelson is always asleep.

5. When Gunnar Nelson goes fishing in Iceland most of the fish just jump into his boat and submit to him right away. The ones that don‘t wind up with broken arms and broken legs.

6. When Gunnar Competed in the NAWSC (North Atlantic Whale Submission Championships) in 2012 he choked out a 180 ton Blue Whale in the first round. The whale was almost as surprised as Jeff Monson was.

7. It is believed that George St. Pierre tore his ACL on purpose in 2011 when he learned that Gunnar Nelson was about to join the UFC as a Welterweight.

The on-hand doctor had to take his pulse 5 separate times to make sure that Gunnar actually had a pulse. Gunnar did have a pulse. His heart rate was 1 beat per minute.

11. When the Icelandic Volcano Eyjafjallajokull erupted in 2010 and disrupted flights all over Europe the Icelandic government was left helpless. So they turned to Gunnar Nelson and Gunnar immediately choked the volcano out. Since then all volcano's in Iceland have been afraid of Gunner Nelson.

12. Gunnar Nelson was not born with his umbilical cord around his neck. He was born with his umbilical cord around his mothers neck, ready to choke her out.

 
11.02 - Jamie Varner

Not a sexy pick, but another MMA Labs guy. Super exciting fighter, and he's looked good since coming back to the UFC. Also, his sister is a waitress at a bar near where I work, and she's pretty cool.

J Dilla's only loss came to Dodson, the MMA MJD who went a couple spots before I was gonna take him.
